Check in was super easy and we were able to check in sooner than listed. This was super nice since we didn't have to find other things to do. The house was roomy enough for the 6 of us. Kitchen was well stocked. Bathrooms were small but the walk in showers were nice. Location was great and it was a really quick walk to the beach. We were able to celebrate our grand daughters birthday and she had an entire birthday weekend at the beach.

Cute but disappointing
We have been to OIB the past several years. This was one of the smaller homes we have rented on the island. It was quite cozy inside and updated. While there, we had several problems arise. We had to purchase a coffee maker as the house only provided a Keurig— not a big deal, while the rest of the kitchen was stocked with most of the things we needed. Upon our arrival we had an issue with ants that were manageable with cleanliness and wiping down the cabinets daily. I feel like the cleanliness of the home could have been better. The host offered to have pest control come out, however we did not want chemicals sprayed with our small children there. In one of the king bedrooms, the toilet is located so close to the shower that it is impossible to sit facing forward on it. Another one of the shower in the home leaked water all over the floor and therefore was unusable all week to us. While the host was very kind enough to send someone out we opted out of this option to avoid interruption of our vacation. We grilled most nights. The propane tank had to be filled- which the owner offered reimbursement. During one of the days we were there, the air conditioner turned off for about an hour and half or so during the hottest time of the day. This was an inconvenience to us with having small children who were napping during this time. Unbeknownst to us, we didn’t have control on turning the thermostat on. This was only remedied by calling the owner who then turned it on remotely.

Response from VrboOwner on 17 June 2024
I find this rating/review to be harsh, any issue that you had I was immediately responding to you and offering you an option for us to remedy the problem. It is unfair to provide a low rating when you as the guest were uncooperative in allowing me to fix the issues. This is our first weekly rental of the summer and naturally we are going to run into a few small issues. I also allowed you to check in early to the house at no extra fee trying to accomodate you all.
In response to each individual issue:
Coffee maker- We provide a Keurig and coffee pods for it; I feel this is very sufficient and majority of our renters from our previous place preferred the option to have their own cup of coffee compared to making a large pot that just ends up sitting there all day.
Ants- Our cleaning company is very efficient and one of the best on the island. We have never seen ants in the kitchen when you let me know that issue, I offered to send out pest control, you declined. I also let you know that we have an organic spray under the sink that you can use, I assume you used all of it because our cleaning crew could not find it themselves when you checked out. I cannot control the situation if you do not allow us to fix the issue. The only other message I got from you was you stating that you thought the issue had cleared up. So, I was under the impression this was resolved. I should have followed up but didn’t want to bother you all during your vacation. Lesson learned for me to always follow up.
Shower/bathroom – The leak in the bathroom is due to a gap on the bottom of the door. The toilet is standard size, and I don’t have any issue using it, so not sure what you mean by not being able to sit normally on it. Again, I offered to send someone out ASAP to fix the issue, but you declined.
Propane Tank- I cannot control if the tank is empty, and no one lets me know. It is common curtesy of a guest to let us know it is empty so we can get it replaced. I am sorry the previous guests did not do that for us. But again, I told you that I would have a new one out that next day or if you wanted to get one yourself to please send me the receipt and I will refund you. You all choose to get one yourself.
A/C – You all called us and within five minutes I had called you back and let you know that I could remotely turn it on for you. But you also have full access to the thermostats that you could of easily went over and did a quick look and noticed it appeared to be off and just turned it on yourself. I cannot control that you didn’t bother to check for that while waiting over an hour before even reaching out to me.
Trash- Per our house rules, trash is to be taken out to the road to be picked up on Tuesday and Saturday. Upon our cleaning crew arriving on Saturday, you did not take out the trash, you left two full bins under our home. This now leaves us to try and fix the issue that you left behind for our next guests as trash pickup is not until Tuesday.
