Looking for a tropical getaway where you feel at home, is steps away from one of the greatest beaches anywhere, and won't bust your budget?

You've come to the right web-page!

But first, here's a reality check: Maui is still recovering from the devastating fires that practically wiped out Old Town Lahaina. Much of the economy of the Valley Isle is based on tourism, so by coming to Maui, you're helping in that recovery. (For the record, shortly after the fire, we were able to offer it as temporary accommodations for a couple who lost their home in the disaster. They've now found a longer-term home. See our note below on one important way you can help.)

Our one-bedroom condo on the beautiful grounds of Kihei Akahi is an ideal place to do that.

It's your own pied-à-terre -- a home base where you can hang out, cook your own meals -- either in our deluxe kitchen or at the poolside barbecues. Or, you can take advantage of the unique flexibility of having your own "digs" to check out some of the many diverse eateries Maui has to offer. You'll find restaurants and coffee shops to cover pretty much every taste and style, from creative food trucks, to fast-food chains, right up to the elegant Cafe O'Lei and the uber-pricey (but SO worth it!) experience that is Mama's Fish House.

Better yet, it's priced where a family can afford it -- currently, more than 40% below that of the average hotel room (according to figures from the Hawai'i Tourism Authority). (Plus, you get a discount if you book for a week or more!)

Make our condo your home base for exploring places like the magnificent 'Iao Valley, Up-Country, the ranchland at Makawao, prime surfing spots like Jaws and Pa'ia. Travel the spectacular Hana Highway (pro tip: take a charter bus trip, so that someone who knows the way does the driving!), and reach new heights at the mystical Haleakala -- the dormant volcano rising up literally from Kihei's back yard.

OR ... hang out on Kama'ole Beach 2 (there are three contiguous beaches at Kama'ole -- #2 is literally across the street from Kihei Akahi). Enjoy one of the greatest and most family-friendly beaches anywhere -- you might even see a whale, frolicking in the waves (as much as whales "frolic"), like this baby humpback: https://youtu.be/tsv88hblwFU.

And what is this "home base"? Check out our video -- https://youtu.be/mbjVF5fAPBU.

Our fully furnished, one-bedroom (sleeps 4) condo is in laid-back, family-friendly Kihei. Furnished in a tropical theme, including works by local Maui artists, you'll find a king-size bed in the bedroom, queen-size sofa-bed in the living room, deluxe kitchen and 1 bathroom, with BBQ, two pools and tennis (and pickleball!) courts on the grounds.

We have views of the ocean, mountains and garden, free wi-fi, tennis courts and two pools with BBQs.

How would you like to have a turtle swim just a few feet away from you? It's something you never get tired of – whether it’s the first time or the hundredth time! Kama’ole Beach could be called “Turtle Alley”, as these gentle giants cruise by often, in each direction! It’s an everyday occurrence here, and the perfect relief from the cares you might have back home! Or stick your head under the water and listen to the whales singing -- you don't have to listen too hard, either!

Love snorkeling? The reefs at Kama’ole and further south in Makena -- not to mention Molokini crater -- are a snorkelers’ paradise! Spend time with the turtles, hover over colorful, exotic fish, and maybe even track an octopus! (Just stay away from the reefs and the sea urchins!)

Convinced yet? Check out our reviews (and please note: we don't *ask* for 5-star ratings!).

Whatever your Hawai'ian adventure, our place can be your place to come home to.

* Newly renovated
* Tastefully furnished with island living in mind
* King size bed in bedroom
* Queen size hide-a-bed sofa in living room
* Free wi-fi
* Towels and chairs for the beach
* Washer and dryer in the unit
* Easy access to all parts of the island
* Two pools and tennis courts
* BBQs
NOTE: for full disclosure, there are cameras at the two pools; however, these are to ensure people are abiding by the house rules and the video is not recorded.

And you don't need to take our word for it: check out the references from our guests -- many of whom keep coming back -- who consistently give our condo high ratings! We're looking forward to sharing our place with you.

But it's also VERY popular! People -- many of whom are returning guests -- book our place months -- sometimes over a year -- in advance. So choice dates won't last long!

ALOHA!

* There is always a need for relief help, and an organization close to our hearts is "A Cup of Cold Water", run by the Episcopal (Anglican) Church on Maui -- and friends. This is an outreach "Care Van" ministry, which travels around the Island, delivering food, water, clothing and other essentials to unhoused people. As you can imagine, their need has become more acute since the fire. Drew recently rode along with one of the trips into the West Maui area, and if you would like to contribute financially, visit www.accwmaui.org.

Wonderful Holiday
The location of the unit was wonderful and it was very comfortable. It had all the things one needed for cooking and beach supplies. The air condition was a relief during those hot days. The blind for the lanai was a great idea during the heat of the day. My only recommendation is new cushions for the two lower chairs on the lanai.

Best Location!
This Condo was just what we needed. I love the location and the grounds. This property was exactly as described.The complex is quiet, safe, peaceful and family friendly. The two pools and pickleball court were a great bonus on the complex. The Grills and pools were cleaned daily. The Beach Wagon came in handy to haul all of our beach needs to the beach. Being on the first level was also another great bonus. Easy Parking with nearby garbage and recycling. We pray that this unit will be available for our next stay at Drew and Amelia's condo.

Great location and amenities
The condo was clean, has lot of great amenities and in a perfect location. My only suggestion is to have an wifi extender in the bedroom so the wifi reception can be better there.

About the host

Hosted by Amelia

Host profile image
Amelia and Drew live in East Sooke BC (just outside Victoria), with 2 dogs and a cat. We have 5 grown children (and 4 grandkids) living across Canada and in Australia. We went to Maui to "check it out" in 2011 because some friends of ours called it "Paradise", and within a week, we had bought this place. Our friends did not over-sell it! We're both sort-of retired -- Amelia is a professional facilitator and practitioner in public consultation and engagement and Drew is a pastor, writer and recovering broadcaster.

We've come to consider Maui "home", diving into the history and culture of the place, contributing to efforts like the Maui Ocean Center and A Cup of Cold Water (a "care van" which distributes food, clothing and other essentials to the unhoused around the island); when a native Mauian introduced us to a meeting in Denver as "fellow Mauians", we knew we'd been accepted.

Over the years, we've met many wonderful people through hosting them at our place and hope you'll join those ranks!

Why they chose this property

We've seen many wonderful places in our travels around the world, but Maui is unique, for its combination of unspoilt beauty and comforts-of-home amenities. We had initially looked for property right on the beach, but choosing this place at Kihei Akahi -- across the street from the beach -- has allowed us to keep our rent at rates a family can afford.

This part of Kihei is eminently walkable, with restaurants at every price range, a supermarket, and shopping and other features within a mile -- a flat mile, too!

And, of course, there's the beach: it's not connected to any resort; dedicated lifeguards are on the job seven days a week, and people of all shapes and sizes -- with their families! -- love it for hanging out, swimming, shore-based whale-watching, and dodging turtles!

Walkability: that became one of our top criteria for any place we would buy, this place has that. We walk to the beach in the morning to swim, then walk the length of the beach and come back via the road. You can walk to some neat restaurants, like Cafe O'Lei and Moose McGillicuddy's, as well as shops and 3 supermarkets. We love the farmers' markets and the weekend swap meet in Kahului is worth the drive (the Philip Soo batiks were purchased there). We also love the fact that total strangers say 'hi' on the street and that you can feel like a regular in a restaurant or bar just by coming back.
