Luxury House with a Cozy Guesthouse + Hot Tub close to Snæfellsnes National Park
Our houses, Bakki and Holt, are the perfect base for your Icelandic holiday. Have a memorable day at Snæfellsnes National Park with a snow scooter trip on top of the amazing Snæfellsjökull glacier, a visit to a natural hot spring like Deildartunguhver, or amazing waterfall like Hraunfossar. Other interesting places to visit are, the active volcano Grábrók, the crater Eldborg, historical viking landmark Reykholt, and taking a walk into the glacier Langjökull. You can stroll through the nearby cozy town of Borgarnes and drop by the cafe’s, museums, shops and restaurants. Take a drive to the capital Reykjavík with all its glory, nightlife and culture. Make a day trip on the Golden Circle and see the exploding Geysir with all its natural power, and drop by the historic Thingvellir National Park, and view close up the beautiful Gullfoss waterfall. In the evenings you will always come back home to this modern architecturally designed house in Helluskógur and probably the first thing you will do is, relax in the hot tub with a glass of red wine and enjoy the Northern Lights in the peace and quietness after a memorable day.
The newer house was built in 2012. It has an open kitchen-living room with a large kitchen island. It is very spacious and ideal for family and friends preparing a good meal together. The kitchen has all necessary tableware and high quality equipment for cooking and baking. The living room has floor to ceiling windows and an amazing view. Even if you are inside it feels like you are still completely connected to nature. In the living room you will find books and magazines to read, films to watch on the large flat screen TV and a piano to play on. The bedrooms are cozy and comfortable with high quality beds and a beautiful view. The bathroom is spacious with a long wooden countertop and a large shower room.
The design of the house is outstanding and well thought out. It has floor to ceiling windows, open space, hardwood floor, natural stone tiles, designed lighting and with one of the most advanced and environmentally friendly floor heating systems installed in houses today. The heating system is perfect and we can guaranty you a warm and cozy house in the winter time.
The smaller cabin was built in a traditional, Icelandic summerhouse way. It is well constructed and insulated. It is warm and cozy all year round with all necessities and comfort. The house has an open kitchen-living room area. In the kitchen there is all the table ware and equipment you need for cooking, baking, and serving a lovely meal. The living room has a great corner sofa and a large flat screen TV and films to watch. The bedrooms are cozy and comfortable with great quality beds. Free WIFI.
The houses are only 30 meters apart, connected by a nice walking path. Both houses have large terraces, each with a hot tub that fits up to 7 people, barbecue grill and comfortable outdoor seating. They are perfect for making a good meal and relaxing in the peaceful environment. Beside both houses are grass lawns surrounded by a birch forrest, ideal for kids to play.

Two very comfortable houses within a quick walk from each other. The location well away from town and within easy day trips from Snaefellsnes peninsula and golden circle worked great for us. Great aurora on 2 nights. Hosts were very responsive to questions and provided great info about the whole region.
Great stay! The house was conveniently close to Borgarnes in a beautiful location and had everything we needed. What made it especially unique was that it included two separate houses, which worked perfectly for our group. We really enjoyed spending time on the deck and hot tub at the main house — a perfect setup for relaxing and hanging out. The home was well equipped, and the owners provided clear instructions and lots of helpful information that made everything super easy. Would definitely recommend!

Gorgeous place and great location
Loved the house and cabin too! Great base camp for area explorations. Our only difficulty was the stove and microwave as we dont have these types in Canada but owners were so patient with our questions and Rob was very interesting to talk to!
Would stay here again for sure.

Thanks for your nice review. The operation of the equipment might be a bit different from Europe and the US. The child lock is simply hold and wait and the microwave is turned on by turning the time selection and wait. Otherwise, the House Manual should cover the details. Nice meeting you guys and welcome back to Helluskógur. Sincerely,
Heidi and Rob
Having literally travelled around the world three times, and a fan of VRBO (Turnkey) this is one of the best! GREAT property, GREAT location, and even GREATER hosts - answered all questions quickly making planning a breeze.

Thank you so much for a lovely review. It was a pleasure having you stay. Welcome back, perhaps next time in our house on the South coast during the Summer :-)
Sincerely,

It was our family’s first trip to Iceland and we loved it! The accommodations were great, with plenty of space for us to gather for meals and relaxing together. The houses were very clean and well stocked with everything we needed for our stay.
The host is extremely accessible, responding within minutes when we accidentally locked ourselves out. We highly recommend this property, and would definitely stay here again!
The two houses are beautiful and very well stocked. It was wonderful, having two separate homes, which allowed us to spread out some. there is so much information in the house in order to explore the country. we truly loved our stay and have every intention of going back.
We rented both houses Bakki and Holt for our extended family. It was perfect. They are connected by a quick path through the woods.
Great location outside of town but close enough for easy access to grocery stores and liquor store. We used this as a base to explore Snæfellsnes peninsula. Farther out on the peninsula quickly becomes very empty and hard to restock.
Beautiful homes; we would definitely return! 10 of us enjoyed our stay at these two lovely homes. Both houses were clean, spacious, and well stocked. The windows in the main house were especially wonderful. The kitchen was well stocked with pots and pans and dishes for our large group to have home cooked meals at the large table. We had trouble getting the lock box open (likely frozen shut) and the key to the second cottage was tricky / sticky and needed some extra finesse to get in/out. Communication with the host was great and we appreciate the easy check in/out procedures (other than the lock box/key). We really enjoyed staying further from the city and we are so happy with our stay! It was a trip to remember! Thank you!
We're a family of 13 ranging from 85yrs to 5 mths. visiting in October/November. We were well catered for in every way. The main house is very modern and airy and very warm, the nearby secondary house, connected by a hidden path, is cosy and comfortable although the mezzanine level bedroom is very low and up a steep ladder, older kids would love it. Able to all eat together in the main house. And the hot tubs were well used !
Iceland is fabulous, amazing scenery wherever you go. We only managed the Pingvellir and Snæfellsjökull national parks and Reykavik. My husband also went diving which was amazing. All in all everybody loved it whatever the age.

Thank you, Ana, for taking the time to write this wonderful review. Sounds like you had a terrific time with your family in Iceland. Those are all fantastic places to visit and hopefully you will visit again someday and see more amazing places like Hraunfossar the lava field waterfalls or explore the ice caves in Langjökull.
Take care Ana,
Sincerely,

Fantastic properties in an idyllic setting
We had a fantastic stay in these two beautiful houses. We were lucky enough to stay over Christmas for 4 nights. We visited Iceland with family in the hope of having a white Christmas and Iceland did not disappoint.
Unfortunately we arrived later than planned due to flight delays and following a 2hr drive in blizzard conditions finally found the main house using Heidrun's very helpful directions. The main house is stunning and everyone was wowed by it upon arrival. We let our parents stay in the main house while the younger adults (all in their 30s) had the guest house. The main house is larger than it looks in the pictures and easily accommodated the 9 of us for meals and relaxing in. It has a great bathroom, spacious bedrooms and a great open plan area for everyone to gather, not to mention a brilliant coffee machine! The guest house was ideal, and also had everything we needed for a very comfortable stay. Both houses had all the mod cons you could need and good wifi access. Both hot tubs were well utilised and there was nothing better than sitting in them with a drink in our hands as the snow came down.
Heidrun was really helpful and when we had issues with one of our hire cars, and the hire car company weren't much help Heidrun managed to organise some jump leads to borrow on Boxing day. Which meant we were able to visit the local waterfalls and caves an hour away.
We had a fantastic stay, the only downside was unfortunately we didn't get to see the Northern Lights - apparently they had been visible in the area the night before we arrived - but such is life and it gives us the perfect excuse to visit Iceland again!
We found Heidrun very helpful and quick to respond to our messages. We fell in love with the houses and their location, there was something very special about it all and we miss it very much.

Thank you so much for this nice review. We think it´s so important to make our guests feel like they are welcome and get support from someone local like us, since we are used to travel ourselves. Welcome back and perhaps next time in our house on the South Coast, maybe during the summertime... :-) Sincerely, Heidi and Rob
This property is gorgeous. We wanted to move in and never leave. The main guest house is beautiful and the guest house was also a perfect addition for our needs, as a group of ten family members who had never been to Iceland before. The hosts communicated with me, as much and as often as I had questions - right from the time of booking. The location is remote and very private, which we really loved. However, if you stay here for a week like we did and expect to try to see as much of Iceland as possible, you are going to do a lot of driving every day. We loved the small town of Borgarnes, and the convenience to spending a day exploring the national park and peninsula. It is over an hour to Reykjavik, and most of the other attractions are a full day trip away from the house. That being said, it was great property for a group of ten to return to at the end of the day, as there was plenty of room to spread out and the kids especially loved the hot tubs. I would definitely stay here again. Thanks for your warm hospitality!
When you need a place that sleeps (14) comfortably it's usually a big challenge. Boy did we luck out when this property was available for our chosen dates.
Quality bedding & Cleanliness are a must and we weren't disappointed when we arrived.
Highlights are:
1. Privacy Galore
2. Multiple Hot Tubs
3. Espresso Machine
4. Modern Laundry Room
5. Shower pressure was perfect
6. Bamboo Floors in Main house
7. Multiple outdoor Grills
8. Groceries nearby
9. Awesome Views
10. Attentive Owners, answers in minutes, no hours or days!
Total "Do-Over"!!!
Lovely house and great location. Very clean and had a great view. 4 adults and 5 kids for comfortably. Only small downside was that there was only 1 bathroom (which was also the laundry room) for several people. Not a big deal, though, and we made it work!

Awesome, the perfect place for bigger groups to discover the west and south-western part
It was amazing. We spent 10 days with our families in both houses. At the peak we were 14 adults and one baby. Then it was really full in the houses but some day we were just 7 adults and one baby. Then it was really comfortable. But even during the week with 15 persons it was really okay. We had a great time on the huge terrace enjoying the evening sun. Some of us also spent some time in the outdoor hot tubs what they really liked. We often cooked for the whole group and everyone found a place to have breakfast and dinner in the main house. So mainly we spent time together in the main house, the guest house we just used for sleeping. It was perfect for our group.
The light that flows through the house the whole day is so beautiful. When you enter the house, you will fall in love with it.
When we had any questions, Heidrun always answered almost immediately. So Heidrun and Robert are great hosts. They prepared a baby crib and a high chair for our daughter. andThe equipment (coffee machine, dish washer, washing machine, dryer etc.) is great.
And the location of the houses in Helluskogur is a dream. You hear the birds singing at night. Sun never really went down during our time at the end of May.
And also for our day trips the location was more than perfect. When you are planning your trip, the brochure Heidrun and Robert wrote, will help you a lot. There is really good advice there.
Thank you for great time in your houses. We really enjoyed it.

Tranquility! The house was warm all the time, comfy beds and------ lots of snow. Spacious, marvellous large windows so full of light .Northern lights? Well a faint curtain of palest green light as activity was low.
Made use of the hot tub. A separate toilet would be an improvement when there are 7 in the house but our only criticism Massive towels Wonderful stay

Perfect for our 14 family members!
The 2 houses allowed our family of 14 to be together yet sleep comfortably. Cooking for the group was easy in the well-stocked kitchen (and the coffee maker was awesome and used incessantly!). Heidi was so accommodating for the baby providing a crib, highchair and toys! The homes were everything we expected and the hot tubs were a wonderful end to our adventurous days. It was a perfect location for, us to see the golden circle or Snaefellsness National Park. Groceries, gas and restaurants were 10 minutes away and we loved the secluded, quiet feeling of the houses.
We would absolutely stay here again! It was perfect for our large family.

Perfect house for larger group
We rented the house and guest house property in early June for an extended weekend. We re a group of 14 and it was a perfect fit. The surrounding area is beautiful and perfect for just taking a short hike. Great river is a short walk away. It is a short drive 10-15 minutes to the nearby town of Borgones to pick up groceries. House was in perfect working order (Clean, modern, updated) and easy to get to if using your GPS.

Wonderful
We had a fabulous 4 nights renting both properties as a three generation family celebrating a special birthday. The lovely long table in the main house allowed us all to eat together every evening. The houses are fully equipped, even down to toys for the little ones and, as our stay coincided with Easter, a bowl full of chocolate eggs. Snow on our arrival made it magical and the hot tubs were appreciated after a hard day's sightseeing, especially when the Northern Lights made an appearance. We would love to return, perhaps trying one of your other properties. Thanks .....

Beautiful property and very well equipped.
This was a perfect place to stay for our 2 families of 5. Our 2 groups were all adults and the younger 20somethings all stayed in the cozy cabin but joined us in the main house for meals and socialising. There was plenty of room and we thoroughly enjoyed cooking, hot tub and socialising there. The path between the main house and cabin was extremely slippy. There are puzzles and games and a DVD player with a small selection of films. All in all the properties and location exceeded all our expectations and we would definitely recommend for a short or long stay. The owners were extremely helpful and responsive both before our stay and during. Thank you for a wonderful, memorable holiday. The Bole’s, Harlow’s and Taylor’s from near London, UK.
Space allowed in these reviews is too limited to say all the great things about this property. We had the most wonderful time, and are already planning a return trip.
Helluskógur 10 is the perfect place for a family or group to stay in Iceland. It is in a quiet location, remote enough to be dark in winter. The surrounding area is extremely beautiful day and night. In late November we saw the Northern Lights, the Milky Way, and meteors every night from the living room window or the hot tub. It is close enough to the town of Borgarnes that there is no problem running out for groceries or other essentials. It is within an hour’s drive of glaciers and mountains, and there is spectacular scenery everywhere. Reykjavík is a beautiful 90-minute drive away, and it was very convenient for us to visit the city for shopping several times during our stay.
The main house is modern and well-equipped, and very comfortable to stay in for up to 7 people. The smaller house is perfect to accommodate additional guests, or for a couple to have some privacy away from the main group. The walk from the smaller house to the main house is short and very easy.
The coffee machine is so convenient. It makes a cup on demand, and everyone enjoyed having coffee immediately available. The kitchen had all the equipment we needed to fix breakfast every morning, plus three large family meals over the course of our stay.
The hot tubs were very clean and provided a warm and relaxing location to view the stars and Northern Lights.
The washer and dryer worked very well and were quite convenient to have.
The bedrooms were warm, and the beds were so comfortable that we seemed to sleep longer than intended almost every night.
The owners, Heidi and Robert, are very friendly, flexible, and accommodating. The houses were spotless when we arrived. We had a question or two during the stay, and they responded very quickly via email.
We were sad to leave, but look forward to returning soon!

I am a teacher and I have a BA degree in Icelandic literature. My husband Robert works as a pilot in Europe and has a BS degree in business administration. We have three Amazing boys
This house is what we have been searching for the purpose of total relaxation and the house has everything a home needs. Now it is our summerhouse and we love staying there, both in the summer and winter time. We offer others to stay in our house and enjoy all it has to offer.
Why they chose this property
We wanted to have a nice holiday home where we could relax and recharge the batteries.. and that´s precisely what we succeeded. Also the short distance to Borgarnes (swimming pool, gym and everything else) and to the Capital, Reykjavík. For us, this place is heaven on earth.
What makes this property unique
Peacefulness - You can sit outside or walk around the house on the large patio and enjoy the nature and the amazing mountain view in the peaceful surroundings.
High standard and modern – All the equipment in the house is high standard and you should find everything you need and more. The open space and the large windows give you the feeling that you are out in the nature even when you are inside.
Location - The location of the house is ideal for exploring the west side of Iceland. There are short driving distances to many beautiful places in the nature such as waterfalls and craters. Museums and historical places are also nearby. There is only a 15 minutes drive to the nearest town, Borgarnes, where you can find for example a swimming pool, golf course, shops, bakery, restaurants, library and health care.
