About this property

WATERFRONT COTTAGE on 53 acre private preserve, pet friendly

The DAL House is a renovated, antique, Cape Cod, cottage that sits on the edge of Heal Cove on Westport Island, Maine. The house is part of the Hubbard Point Trust, a 53 acre private land preserve that is also home to the Dunn House, which sits on the western shore of the property. The houses are close enough to rent together for a larger group yet far enough apart that each is very private and quiet. Just .2 mile walk down the driveway. The Hubbard Point Trust is a true “get away from it all” location yet just a short drive to Route 1, midcoast attractions, shopping, antiquing and dining.
Staying at the Hubbard Point Trust is like staying in your own private park. Hiking, biking, canoeing, kayaking, swimming are all possible as soon as you step out the door!

The DAL house has a large sunroom/family room, kitchen with large dining area, a large first floor bath with washer and dryer, and a spacious first floor master bedroom. The second floor has two more bedrooms and a loft area with an additional twin bed. A first floor bath, bedroom and rear entry ramp make this house very accessible.

You will never want to leave the sunroom with three walls of sliding glass doors that lead to a stone patio in the front with the sweeping lawn that leads down to the cove or the large, sunny deck in the back. Relax on the comfy couch(which is also a pullout bed) or in one of the club chairs or the recliner while looking out onto Heal Cove and it’s islands while being surrounded by the Maine woods. A peaceful retreat to read, relax, meditate, practice yoga or even watch tv. Feel the cool breeze blow in from the cove while listening to the shorebirds and crickets. Watch out over the cove to see gulls, osprey, loon, bald eagle and the occasional lobster boat pulling up their traps or kayakers exploring the cove. You will never tire of the incredible view!

Enjoy coffee in the dining room while the sun rises over the cove. Grill a steak on the Weber charcoal grill on the deck or cook up a lobster dinner in the cottage kitchen and enjoy your seafood dinner while the cool shore breezes blow in. After dinner you can star gaze while you sit around the fire pit and roast marshmallows.

The spacious first floor bedroom has a queen bed, new pillows and crisp sheets. Read a book or watch a little tv on the love seat. Wake up to the beautiful views and sounds of the cove.

On the second floor you will find two bedrooms and a loft area with a skylight. Each bedroom has two twins in each and fresh bedding and pillows. There is also an additional twin bed in the loft area. Both rooms have views of the water, forrest and the barn.

The large first floor bath has a combination tub/shower, a double vanity, and a washer and dryer.

The Hubbard Point Trust is 53 acre private preserve that is yours to explore. Water access is right outside the front door. Fish or swim of the rocks right down in front. Bring a kayak or canoe and drop it in Heal Cove, a tidal cove. We also have suggestions for rental equipment nearby, they will deliver. Bring your boat and launch it at the nearby town landing. There is plenty of parking at the house for your boat. Hike along the shore line and through the woods with its tall pine and low-lying fern. Follow the marked trails and make your way to the point, a great place to watch for seal, to fish, or have a picnic with a stunning view. Take your bike out on the long driveway and out for a spin on the rural roads of Westport Island. The Hubbard Point preserve is a dog's paradise that offers acres to run and fun places to swim and cool off. We are pet friendly and will consider a well behaved dog. Please inquire about our policies regarding dogs.

Westport island is conveniently located on Maine’s mid-coast and accessible by bridge. A quiet non-touristy island that is a perfect get away from the congestion of Route 1, yet a close drive to attractions, beaches, restaurants, shopping and antiquing. The Island is the perfect jumping off point to visit Wiscasset, Booth Bay Harbor, Bath, Damariscotta, Freeport, and Rockland. Westport's winding rural roads are perfect for a long scenic walk, bike ride or run. Just a short drive from the house you can enjoy hiking on one of the islands public preserves or launch your boat at the public boat dock. If you get hungry, pick up a lobster on the island at the NorthEnd lobster Co-op .

Just a short drive from the island and you will be on the scenic Route 1 where you will find Shaw's grocery store, restaurants, antiquing, canoe/kayak rentals, a ropes/zipline/gorilla laser tag park, and gas stations.

Head North on Route 1 and you will find yourself in “the prettiest village in Maine”, Wiscasset. Walk along the water front, enjoy a lobster dinner on the dock, eat at the famous Red’s or explore one of the many antique shops and new restaurants.

A little farther north and you can take a turn and head to Boothbay or Damariscotta. Both coastal towns are known for their shopping, dining, and antiquing. Boat tours for whale/seal watching and sailing or fishing adventures can be taken from both locations. Boothbay is also home to the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, a stunning display of Maines natural coastal landscapes enjoyed by adults and children. The children’s garden is a magical place to explore. Pemaquid Point Light house and beach is a short drive form Damriscotta.

A short drive on Route 1 and you will cross the Kennebec river to head into Bath, “the city of ships”. Great dining and shopping along with the Maine Maritime Museum can be found in this waterfront town. Don’t forget to pick up some local Maine produce at the water front farmers market which runs year round.

Not far from Westport you will find two beautiful Maine beaches. Reid State park’s sandy beaches, tidal pond, and bath house is the perfect place to cool off on a warm summer day. Popham Beach is a “must see” in Maine. One of the most beautiful parks in Maine!!! This is where Maine keeps all it’s sand! Miles of beach, tidal rivers, and and island(at low tide) to explore. Surf, boogie board, kite sail, paddle board, swim, relax or beach comb. There is something for everyone at this stunning beach. Walk to the island at low tide or swim in the warm waters of this beach. 2 week maximum stay.

While I am the representative for the rental of the Hubbard Point Trust properties, the Trust is owned by my family, the Ahlers.
The Hubbard Point Trust was left to my family by our Aunt Doris, who purchased the property during the sixties.
Everyone in the family has many wonderful memories of our travels to Maine from NewJersey and our many adventures on Westport Island with Aunt Doris. We feel incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to continue to enjoy this beautiful Maine property many years after her passing and to introduce Maine life to the continuing generations of our family.
Memories of our aunt are here everywhere for us on the point. The DAL house was recently renovated and decorated so as to make it available for summer rentals. The Dunn house has been carefully restored and updated with addition of a beautiful sunroom that Aunt Doris, an architect, would certainly approve of. She loved to use skylights and windows to take advantage of the beautiful Maine views. She even was known to do her drawings in the net house that sits upon Heal Cove. Any addition or update is always done with her in mind. We think she would be proud of the care and love that has been put into her beloved Westport Island homes.

What makes this property unique

The Dunn and DAL houses are located on our private 52 acre preserve. The Hubbard Point is surrounded by water on all sides with the Dunn house on the western shore on Hockomock Bay and the DAL on the eastern shore, sitting right upon Heal Cove.
This offers renters a unique opportunity to rent both houses for larger groups. The houses are only are short walk away from each other on the property, separated by the tall pines of the forrest between them. The houses are close enough for a group yet far enough away that if you are renting one home you have privacy. 52 acres with its miles of shoreline, woodland trails, expansive yards are yours to explore. Hiking, biking, swimming, fishing, kayaking, bird and nature watching are all right here. You may never want to leave!
