Seasonal Notes:

Spring & Summer and the peak season for kayaking, exploring Assateague's beaches, and day trips to Berlin, Chincoteague, and Ocean City. The creek and bay are most active with birds. Two kayaks are available from spring through fall.

Fall is an underated season here. The foliage around the property and along the creek turns in October, and the crowds thin out considerably. Cooler evenings are ideal for the firepit. Still warm enough for a beach day at Assateague in early fall and the creek and bay stay warmer than expected for kayaking.

Winter is perfect for a quiet, cozy getaway. The waterfront setting has a different character when it's cold. It’s good for walks, the firepit, and unwinding without the summer crowds. Believe it or not, there are different birds that migrate here during winter and the Herons are still around if you look hard enough.

* For those seeking aquatic adventures with powered watercraft, we recommend taking advantage of the nearby public boat launch situated at the end of the street. It’s important to note that returning to the house’s dock can be challenging with tidal water and shallow depths, so relying on the public launch ensures a smoother experience.

If you decide to explore Chincoteague/Newport Bay, keep in mind that the outer edges of the creek's turns tend to offer deeper water. Visualize the way water naturally carves a path during tides – this can help you identify and avoid shallow areas. The bay is more shallow in some places than you might expect. There is a depth chart in the house to assist.

We had a great stay during our recent wrestling tournament weekend. The property was exactly what we needed—peaceful, relaxing, and a perfect place to unwind after long days of competition. Our kids especially loved the kayaks, which were a huge hit and gave them something fun to look forward to outside of the tournament. The setting itself is quiet and scenic, making it easy to recharge and enjoy some family time in between matches.Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and we’d absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking for a calm, comfortable getaway—especially families traveling for events like we were.

Awesome beach Getaway

How lucky were we to find this little gem near the beach. OMG We cannot say enough good things about it. So spacious and yet still cozy. Close to everything yet far enough away to enjoy the peace and quiet. House decor is perfect. Not too beachy yet quite stylish and relaxing. Sooo many rooms, beds and sofas to enjoy. Awesome screened in sunroom and Water views from just about everywhere in the house. If no water view, then it's woods and fields. Huge tall windows that show the trees and light that you feel like you're sleeping outside. Place was exceptionally clean and well stocked with everything for your stay. Lots of birds, crabs and other woodland and canal critters to enjoy. Rooftop deck has a spectacular view of canal. Beds cozy and very comfortable. We even enjoyed the firepit one morning. Truly highly recommend this lovely home to anyone wanting a home away from home. Host David is wonderful and was very helpful with our questions regarding the house and surrounding area. He was even able to extend our stay a day longer (). We Will definitely be back during another season just to enjoy a different atmosphere. Thank you again so much!
Sunset view off the dock.
Easy walk down to the dock (low tide)
Awesome firepit
Lots of little crabs off the pier.

Thanks Doreen! I didn't see the crab pic until today. Wow! (Just so people reading this know, crabbing here can be hit or miss depending a lot of the water temps and they've been pretty high lately, unfortunately for the crabs.) Thanks for the amazing review and we look forward to hosting you again.

Quiet and secluded, about a 30 min drive to Chincoteague and Wallops, and an even shorter drive to Assateague. We spent time here bird watching, kayaking, and sitting by a fire. Clean, comfortable, and couldn’t ask for better communication with host. We highly recommend.

We had the nicest time at this house! The pictures really don’t do this place justice. We loved using the kayaks, screened-in porch, dock, and fire pit. Everything was so clean and the kitchen was stacked with everything you would need. In addition, the host was very communicative and we appreciated his kindness.

About the host

Host profile image
We've been captivated by Maryland’s Eastern Shore for years. The area is packed with unique adventures like ghost tours, farmers markets, and island hopping in Chincoteague Bay. Our house, Casa Blue Heron, a three-year passion project, is ready to help you discover hidden gems in this region and craft unforgettable memories for travelers or all ages.

Why they chose this property

Casa Blue Heron is located in a quiet and secluded agricultural area. We are surrounded mostly by farmland, woods and wetlands. Some of our neighbors include egrets, herons, goats and alpacas.

What makes this property unique

Casa Blue Heron's open floor plan was thoughtfully designed for relaxation and “glamping.” Enjoy water views from nearly every window. The home boasts a well-stocked kitchen, screened porch, remote workspaces, and a firepit.

Step outside for boating, crabbing, birdwatching, and perhaps alpaca encounters. Nearby, uncover Assateague Island's beaches, marshes, and forests beside wild horses. Explore Ocean City's boardwalk, savor small-town allure in Berlin and Snow Hill. That's just the beginning!
