About this property

GORGEOUS LAKEFRONT - Autumn Splendor - Private Setting - 5 Mins to Okemo!

This is the perfect location for a fabulous summer or fall vacation (winter's amazing, too!) Wake up to the peaceful beauty of the lake, then spend your day swimming, fishing or kayaking right from the dock, with 300' of waterfront.

If you love to cook, the kitchen is well appointed so you can whip up something wonderful. Otherwise, eat at one of the fabulous restaurants downtown or just grab a pizza! Play games, watch movies or roast marshmallows over the firepit...All the simple pleasures!

My slogan is "keep it simple". When you arrive, beds are made with crisp, clean linens and fresh towels are stacked in the bathroom. (In the winter, each bed also has a big, fluffy comforter.) Just show up! My house fairies will be sure everything is neat and clean when you arrive and after you leave. No fuss. No stress. I want you to relax and enjoy!

This spacious lakefront cottage has everything you need to create wonderful memories that will last a lifetime. With 3 floors of living space, there is plenty of room for everyone to have privacy, but then gather together for meals or to share stories of the day's adventures. And for couples or smaller families who don't need or want the sprawl, everything you need is right on the main living floor, giving it that comfortable, cozy cottage feel.

Fresh bath and bed linens are provided for each guest and beds have new, comfortable mattresses and pillows. The kitchen has a microwave and dishwasher and K-cup coffee maker. There is also a washer and dryer available if you need it.

In the summer, the 1+ acre yard with horseshoe pits, volleyball net, huge deck & 2 fire pits make entertaining a breeze! Swim, kayak and fish right off the new dock in the deep, clear water.

The large deck has an umbrella table and chairs and a Weber gas grill. Stairs off one side lead to a side yard with a shed that holds the yard and water toys, extra chairs, etc. The large fire pit is also on that side, with views of the lake. Stairs off the other side lead to the larger yard where you'll find the horseshoe pits, volley ball net and a wide path gently sloping down to the waterfront. There's a brand new dock and two kayaks - one double and one single - as well as a canoe. Paddles and life preservers are in the shed.

Lake Pauline is peaceful and quiet, but Lake Rescue is directly behind us and allows power boats. The boat ramp is 1/2 mile down the road. The best of both worlds!!

In the winter, ice skate, snowmobile (VAST trails) or snowshoe right from the front door. Okemo is 5 minutes (Jackson Gore is even less!), Killington is 25 minutes and Pico is about 30 minutes away. In the evening, gather for a meal, games or a movie. A large, see through fireplace adds warmth and charm to both living room and kitchen/dining room!

In the fall, grab a blanket and a cup of coffee and head out to the Adirondack chairs to watch the mist rise off the lake and listen to the geese fly overhead.

The main floor has a bedroom with double bed and a bedroom with a twin. The bathroom on this floor is very large and has a bath tub (there are also safety rails in this bathroom by tub and toilet, if you have guests who need some extra support).

Upstairs is the master bedroom suite with king bed and small full bath. A second bedroom has a queen bed and two twins. Both bedrooms have skylights and French balconies.

The lower level suite has an additional living area and full bath. There is a couch, TV and stereo and a second room with a daybed with trundle and large game table. (Note: Since this area does not have proper egress, it cannot be used as a bedroom.)

Buttermilk Falls is a popular swimming and picnic spot throughout the summer and fall. Deep, cool pools are at the base of each of 3 sets of falls, cascading down through the woods. They are only 2 miles away and can be reached by car or bike.

The town of Ludlow has a variety of interesting shops, great restaurants and you can't beat the Jackson Gore Adventure Park when the kids need some excitement. They also hold a free concert every Friday night in the summer that is always fun!

I love my 'cottage' and this area and feel so fortunate to have such a beautiful, spacious spot on the lake. I am happy to share it with others who are looking to refresh, reconnect & renew. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you might have.

Very cozy. Kitchen was stacked with everything a family needed. Especially enjoyed the central two-sided fireplace. Usually the photos of the interior on vrbo website make the rooms look bigger than they are. Not with this property: I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of room we had in the common are (kitchen, dining, living room).

Great Spot!

We really enjoyed our stay. The house was cozy, well-appointed, and a good central location for visiting Manchester and Woodstock. We also enjoyed some of the local businesses in Ludlow. Would definitely go back!

Great base for Okemo trip

We enjoyed our stay here for several days of skiing at Okemo. It is a 7 minute drive to Jackson Gore base, which has easy parking and is the location for ski school during the week, so it was super convenient. The lake is very scenic and the view is lovely even during the winter. The house is cozy and well-equipped, with plenty of towels, blankets, pillows, cookware, games, etc. Bernie was easy to communicate with.

Beautiful Vermont house

My family and I had a great stay at this house for a quick ski weekend! Less than a 10 minute drive to okemo and a wood burning fireplace we’re just a couple of the amenities we enjoyed! Bernie is also super helpful and was quick to respond to any questions; we would absolutely stay here again!

Great place for your family

We wish we could have stayed the entire week but the floods knocked out the entire area and we felt it best to head out. Bernie was excellent with communication and refunded us for the portion we had to leave. Recommended for families.

This is a cozy yet spacious cabin. The cabin is on a lake and has a beautiful view. It was clean and well stocked. The beds were comfortable. It’s truly 5 minutes from Okemo Mountain. We’d love to come back next year.

Perfect Location

The property was situated on a beautiful lake which was frozen, making it that much more beautiful. The accomodations were cozy and exactly what I expected. We are skiers so the drive was literally 5 minutes to Okemo Clock Tower and 2 minutes to Jackson Gore. Would highly recommend this property and look forward to future visits.

Great property

We had a wonderful time at this house. The best thing about it is a very spacious deck under the pine trees looking out over the lake. We spent most of our time on the deck, visiting with friends and family. The house was very well stocked and comfortable. The location, on a dirt road and on the lake, is perfect.

Deck-adent lakeside

The soggy post-rain arrival rewarded us with a misty water view and excited tours of 3 levels of living. The next morning welcomed us to canoes and kayaks on the still mile long pond. We loved the fire pit and dock and yard. Our favorite spot, for early morning coffee, lunch, reading, games and dinner was the amazing huge deck. Everything else was just cherries on top.

Excellent location, plenty to do!

My husband and I along with our 2 grown children and their partners stayed at this lovely lake house. There is plenty of room in house. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you could possibly need. The beds were very comfortable, probably the best in all the homes we have rented! Slept well. The house is right on the lake with a well maintained dock. Easy access to the water for kayaking, swimming, tubing etc. The two kayaks available to use are in great condition and right at the dock. There is a canoe too which we did not use. The fishing was ok, the guys would have liked to catch more. Plenty to do in the area. We love to hike and hit several of the trails near by. Loved Buttermilk Falls very easy hike. Wish it had been a little warmer as I would have loved to swim there. There are plenty of places to eat and shop as well. Bernie is easy to communicate with and replies in a timely manner. We very much enjoyed our stay.

Wedding weekend family reunion

We had SUCH a lovely time at this beautiful lakefront property! Dogs, adults, college students.... no one didn't have a wonderful time. The house is set up in such a way that you never felt like you couldn't get away but also there are places that all of you can gather together indoors and out. We used the fire pit and the fire place, some brave souls even went swimming in the lake (61 degrees) and my brother even went twice... 3 mile hike around the lake (or run in some people's cases) were done daily and the scenery cannot be beat. We were at the property max for sleeping and did not feel crowded at all. With 3 toilets and indoor and outdoor showers there were no impatient bathroom situations (which are always a concern with that many people eating and going out at the same time) and our dogs loved sitting on their bed in front of the fireplace or sitting out on the deck during the day in the sunshine. If we ever have a reason to return to Vermont (and we are looking for one) we will definitely try to come back to this well appointed house.

Cozy cabin, best of both worlds!

We spent Labor day weekend at Tapestry Pines and had a wonderful time. The owner was very accommodating and the cabin offered much of everything we needed. The kayaks were great! We are a family of 4 and came with our dog and was able to fit all 4 of us and our Silver Lab in the kayaks around Lake Pauline. It is the best of both worlds, because it is located right around the corner from the Red Bridge Dam where you can easily lift the Kayaks up over the dam to explore, giving you access to both lakes. We packed a snack and spent the entire morning exploring Lake Rescue then headed back for a late lunch. The hammock is perfect for naps and the WIFI reaches to the dock! Our kids and Lab loved jumping off the dock and our dog quickly became a dock dog! The noodles were great and my daughter and I spent the afternoons floating, while my husband and son fished off the dock. Everyone is super friendly and if you go on a holiday weekend you are sure to see fireworks. I would recommend walking down to Red Bridge for the best visibility. The house is large but if you close off the basement and top floor it feels like a cozy small cabin. My kids loved the large windows upstairs as it made the house feel like a treehouse. We also enjoyed kayaking to the Creamee in the afternoon, spoiling dinner! The only recommendation I would have would be to provide a hairdryer for guests and to add more cutting boards to the kitchen, other than that you have all that you need! We went to celebrate my birthday and I think it was one of the most memorable birthdays I have ever had! Thanks Bernie, we will be back! The Lavallee Family

Pure Joy & Relaxation!

Our family (grandma, parents, kids and dogs included!) thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Tapestry Pines and Lake Pauline. My husband worked with the owner, Bernie, to book everything, and she made everything simple and was prompt and helpful. The home is very welcoming, clean and comfortable. The deck is fantastic for relaxing & even eating al fresco in the warm weather. We loved the lake - clear & clean & perfect for kayaking and swimming. We used the 2 kayaks & innertubes provided every day and had a blast. We also rented an SUP for a couple days, which we would recommend if you don't have your own - very fun. We kayaked all over Lake Pauline and Lake Rescue & got to see interesting wildlife...the resident beaver & ducks, bald eagles, herons, salamanders. Fishing off the dock was great as well. The big kitchen table is perfect for family game nights & there are a lot of games & puzzles stocked for use. We enjoyed the local attractions - Jackson Gore, Buttermilk Falls, Sugar Shack (such a cute gift shop & yummy treats) - and went horseback riding at Mountain View Ranch in Danby (about 30 mins away). Very nice family owns the ranch & we had great time. We cooked a lot of meals in the kitchen and put the grill to use, too - very well appointed - and lots of little extra touches are included throughout the home & property that you really do not find in vacation rentals often. One thing I could hardly believe was that it was essentially mosquito-free in mid-July. You could be out any time of day or night and never be bothered. We came prepared with lots of repellants/citronella and never touched them. That was a small blessing in itself. I would highly recommend a stay here if you just want to get away from it all in the summer/fall, connect with loved ones & have fun. I'm sure its grand in the winter/spring, too, with many ski slopes nearby & a nice fireplace to gather round.

Annual week at the lake with adult children

House was exactly as advertised. We have been visiting Lake Rescue for 20 years and we enjoyed having access to both Lake Pauline and Rescue. Kitchen had everything we needed to cook and grill at home and beds were comfortable. It was a hot week so we appreciated the fans given no AC. Homeowner was very responsive.

Lake House Fun

This was one of the best vacations we have experienced. We were 6 adults (Mom, Dad, adult children with friends, two senior pups). The house is beautiful and just as described in the listing. It is roomy and has all the conveniences needed. Most importantly, the dock is right there below the house. There are kayaks, a paddle board, a canoe, floating tubes. We spent part of practically every day on the water. The lake is serene and quiet and clean. We even fished a bit (licensed up - few keepers, but what fun!). The surrounding property is beautiful. We barbecued and dined on the huge deck, s'mores over the fire pit. Ludlow is close by and has some interesting shops. There is a nice farmer's market on Sunday mornings. Nearby Buttermilk Falls is beautiful - bring water shoes! We had a lovely, lovely time and hope to return.
Fishing from the dock and from the Kayak.

About the host

Hosted by Bernie Bolton

Host profile image
I reside in CT and have always wanted to live on a lake. Finding this house in Ludlow - an area I love! - was pure fate!
I have done home exchanges in the past and really enjoyed the experience. I love sharing what brings me joy and I trust people to treat it as though it were their own.
I have 2 grown children and Golden Retriever rescue named Gracie. Pets are generally not allowed, but trained, well-behaved pets will be considered since I know they are part of your family, too.

Why they chose this property

I fell in love with Ludlow 20 years ago and fall in love all over again each time I drive into town. It has everything anyone could want -- interesting shops featuring talented artists; world-class golf; sensational skiing; beautiful lakes, streams and waterfalls; friendly people and breathtaking views all around.
Burlington is a good day trip and Manchester, Woodstock, Rutland, Bennington & Lake George are all within an hour's drive. But honestly? You won't leave Ludlow! :)

What makes this property unique

I've just recently purchased this home and want to create a "cottage" experience. I do not want a home to be featured on 'Cribs' -- I want a home where you walk in and feel at peace. Like perhaps you've stepped back in time a bit to a simpler life at a slower pace.
Yes, there is wifi and cable TV and Bose surround sound & a dishwasher. If you need them. But there are also kayaks and fishing poles and jigsaw puzzles and a squeaky screen door. So I encourage you to unplug and enjoy life's simple pleasures.
