Four Gorges at Fisher Woods: A Log Cabin for Nature Lovers in the Finger Lakes
Sooo pretty and sooo peaceful...
Imagine arriving at a beautifully restored log cabin tucked into the peaceful woods outside Ithaca—a rare gem that guests consistently rate 10/10 across every category. This is where you'll find the perfect level of quiet seclusion surrounded by nature, yet be just 15–30 minutes from four of the Finger Lakes' most spectacular state parks and their waterfalls, dozens of hiking trails, cafes, restaurants and wineries, and the charming towns of Ithaca, Watkins Glen, and Trumansburg.
A Classic Log Cabin That Exceeds Every Expectation
Step inside and you'll immediately understand why guests call this one of the nicest vacation rentals they've ever experienced. The spacious interior is **impeccably clean** (many say it's the cleanest rental they've encountered), thoughtfully designed, and filled with charming touches. Quality furnishings, fluffy blankets, carefully chosen artwork, and an ideal blend of rustic charm meets modern comfort—everything has been chosen with intention and care.
A Stunning Kitchen with All the Essentials
Prepare to be impressed. Our kitchen consistently earns rave reviews as **the best-equipped kitchen guests have encountered in a vacation rental**. High-quality appliances, excellent cookware, thoughtful utensils, and essential pantry items are all here waiting for you. Our guests frequently tell us they experienced the best sleep they've had in ages. The beds are exceptionally comfortable, the charming loft-style sleeping area adds magic to your stay, and modern climate control ensures perfect comfort whether you're visiting during crisp fall nights or snowy winter mornings. In Spring and Summer you'll be lulled asleep by the frogs in the pond, and awaken by singing birds.
Unwind Completely
Your full itinerary could be "stay at the cabin all day." Curl up with a book by the fire. Watch a movie on the large projector screen. Play games together. Listen to the rain on the roof. Sip your morning coffee in peaceful silence. The cabin invites you to slow down and tune in to the rustling of leaves.
Nature at Your Doorstep
Mornings begin with birdsong and coffee on the porch. Evenings end with sunsets over the pond and starlit gatherings around the fire pit (complete with glowing string lights). In between, you can paddle the pond, spot frogs and turtles, make s'mores, wander quiet woods and backroads, or simply watch the world go by from your private sanctuary.

Cell Service
Cell service is limited and can be spotty. Please check with your provider to confirm coverage. The cabin does have high-speed fiber-optic Wi-Fi.
Winter Access
The main road to the cabin is maintained year-round, but the higher elevation means we often receive more snow than surrounding areas. All-wheel drive is always advisable and occasionally necessary during winter months.
Pets
Dogs are allowed with prior approval and agreement to our pet policy and pet fee (see below).
Wildlife
The surrounding forest is home to fox, coyote, fisher, raccoon, and porcupine. These animals are rarely seen near the cabin, however, dogs should remain leashed on woodland walks, as wildlife may be present downslope.
Not a Swimming Pond
The pond is intended for wildlife and ambience—not for swimming (by people or pets) and not for fishing (goldfish only). A small dinghy is available for getting out onto the pond.

About the host
Hosted by Kim and Ed
We--Kim Bostwick and Ed Scholes--are long-time biologists and naturalists, who've traveled the world studying birds. We currently live in Trumansburg, NY, where we have lived for 18 years raising our two children.
We have lovingly renovated this cabin, carefully considering every detail for aesthetics and functionality. We've worked hard to keep our building resources local and sustainable, and to employ local-working carpenters and masons whenever possible.
The results have been two years in the making, from January of 2023 all the way through 2024, and we are eager to finally begin renting in the Spring of 2025.
We look forward to offering something we think is very special by sharing this space with guests who appreciate the peace and serenity of nature and natural places as much as we do. We hope you start your stay feeling delighted and comfortable, and you leave your stay feeling refreshed and satisfied.

Why they chose this property
We love that our cabin is private and removed from traffic and noise, and somehow manages to be in something of a geographic "center" between three awesome towns (Ithaca, Watkins Glen, and Trumansburg), and four awesome state parks, each showcasing different and stunning versions of the area's famous lush green gorges (Treman, Buttermilk Falls, Watkins Glens, and Taughannock Falls).
At a finer scale, our property is effectively surrounded by the Connecticut Hill Wildlife Management Area (WMA), such that we have access to endless trails and seasonal roads, crossing through diverse forest and creek habitats, The forests and fields of the WMA are managed to support diverse and abundant wildlife. Such "wilderness" is relatively rare to find in central New York.

What makes this property unique
Three things make our property unique: (1) the elevation and (2) the nearby state land, and (3) the healthy native plants and animals.
The Elevation:
At 2050' of elevation, just 40' short of Connecticut Hill’s (and Tompkins Counties) highest point, we are one of the highest residences around, regionally. This elevation means the air is always fresh and refreshing in the summer, and the snow is the best around in the winter.
The Surrounding State Land:
There are a handful of residences around the boundary of the WMA, and no paved through roads in Connecticut Hill which greatly reduces traffic and its associated noise to a minimum.
It's generally very peaceful and quiet.
Lovely Natural Plants and Animals:
We have been excited to uncover numerous signs of healthy native populations of frogs and salamander, trees and small forest wildflowers on our property.
