About this property
Garden, walkable, stylish, dog friendly, off-street parking, near French Quarter
Sunny, private, peaceful, safe, 2 or 3-bedroom, 2 full bath cottage on a quarter of a tropically-landscaped acre. There are hardwood floors, 12-ft ceilings & off-street parking for 2 cars. There is a large private back yard for gathering with family and a fully fenced spacious grassy area shaded by trees for dogs, which we welcome. The home has 2 separate private bedrooms with queen beds. The large living room can be used as a third bedroom, which has a Pottery Barn queen sleeper sofa. There are twin and queen air mattresses for use as well.
The home is in the quaint, walkable, quiet family and dog-friendly neighborhood of Bayou St John, with cafes, bistros, a wine & cheese shop, a coffee house & a neighborhood market within a 5 minute walk. The bayou, kayak rentals, bike rentals, City Park and the New Orleans Museum of Art are less than a 10-minute walk away. The French Quarter, Treme & Marigny neighborhoods are a mile away, about a 25 minute walk.
The home has central air and heat, 5 smart TVs, cable, wireless internet, ceiling fans, large custom oak bedroom closets, granite countertops, a stackable washer and dryer, nespresso machine, quality linens, down comforters & Ralph Lauren towels.
There is a marble shower and cypress French windows opening to a banana tree grove above the 2-person bathtub. Furnishing are largely white slipcovered, comfortable French antiques & vintage paintings.
The kitchen is fully stocked, has Cuisinart stainless steel cookware, and there is a library of cookbooks, local authors & children’s books as well as board games for both children & adults. There is a bar in the living room with vintage cocktail glasses & liquor & wine decanters.
The property is landscaped with citrus, fig, papaya, camellia & palm trees, a banana grove & fragrant night blooming jasmine, sweet olive, gardenia, ginger, wisteria, angel trumpet, plumeria, roses & herbs.
The home is the back unit of a historically renovated 1890’s home, separated into 3 apartments. The two front apartments do not have backyard access or off-street parking; the private backyard & off-street parking is only for the back VRBO rental to ensure privacy during stay.
The home is a half a block to bus stop on Esplanade Ave at CC’s Coffee House; & 5 blocks to the street car at Esplanade Ave & Carrollton Ave. Uber, Lyft and local taxis are accessible as well.
Bayou St. John neighborhood is listed in Top 10 Neighborhoods in America in Men’s Journal Magazine “…The winding waterway where picnickers lounge on grassy banks and kayakers paddle their way up to Lake Pontchartrain creates a pastoral backdrop for Bayou St. John’s bungalows. It’s all within shouting distance of NOLA’s top art museum, a huge city park, and the barbecue shrimp po’boy at Liuzza’s By the Track.”
A few favorite food spots:
N7, Cafe Degas, Paladar 511, Crescent City Steak House, Adolfo’s, Liuzza's by the Race Track, Parkway Bakery, Gautreau’s, Bourbon House Oyster Bar, Chemin a la Mer, Sylvain, Palm & Pine, Mamou, Jewel of the South, 1000 Figs
Favorite music & jazz spots: Snug Harbor, Bayou Bar, Bacchanals, Spotted Cat, Apple Barrel, Maple Leaf, Frenchman St joints, DBA, Bullets
