We have welcomed guests to Pirate Lover for 20 years,. Now we offer a bright, cheerful sunroom, as well as laminate floors, walk in shower and new walls throughout.
Skip the crowded condo! You'll love the tastefully decorated rooms, new screened in porch, clean, thick laminate flooring, new walls, and new walk-in shower.
You'll also feel at home in the well-stocked kitchen, & quiet yard & neighborhood. You are 4 minutes from our driveway to the strand at Holden Beach. You will be glad you chose Pirate Lover at Holden Beach for your family vacation at the beach!
Pirate Lover is a pet-free vacation rental due to allergies, sorry. No pets anywhere on the property.
We offer an affordable, clean, up-to-date place for a family of two-four (or an individual) to spend a nice vacation. It's also available, long-term only in the off-season. Please keep in mind that Pirate Lover is pet- and party-free, and linens are not provided.

It’s quiet here inside and out. Peaceful. Great neighborhood for taking a stroll.
Pirate Lover has two bedrooms: one has a queen size bed and the other has a twin bed. In the living room you will find a sofa bed that can sleep another family member.

From Pirate Lover to the ocean is a four minute drive. Between the house and the beach you will pass a small mall, several restaurants, grocery stores and ice cream parlors. Pirate Lover has a yard that is perfect for small children. There is a picnic table w/ choice of charcoal or gas grill. Burnsville is a nice street for strolling and bike riding. The kitchen has a full size refrigerator, full size stove and all the pots, bowls and dishes to make your stay a perfect one. Pizza can be delivered to your front door from two or more locations, and Walmart delivers groceries to your door! At the end of the street you can see boats go by on the waterway, and you can often hear the surf.
The house is neat and well kept. Pirate Lover is perfect for small families who enjoy the beach but also love having some quiet time away from it all. Pirate Lover has a new central air system to keep you cool after a hot day out in the sun. It's a quick drive to the beach. The drive there actually allows you to stop off to make last minute purchases before crossing the bridge to the island.
We rent to couples and families only. The responsible renter, must be 25 years of age or older, must actually stay at Pirate Lover. for the length of the stay.
The $75 cleaning is for sterilizing counters, bathroom and kitchen appliances-also an inspection of house and yard.

This property was a great find and very close to Holden Beach it beats staying in a cramped hotel room and it’s located in a very nice and quiet neighborhood. We enjoyed our stay and will be back soon

Peaceful Getaway

This home is in a quiet neighborhood which made for a peaceful stay. We were here for a week and thoroughly enjoyed it. We would definitely stay here again.

Quiet and Convenient Stay!

We greatly enjoyed our stay at Pirate Lover, and it had everything we needed to make our vacation enjoyable and complete. It's in a great location, on a quiet street, but only a couple miles from beautiful Holden Beach, and numerous shops and eateries. Thank you for having us Tony!

great vacation

We had a wonderful time on our vacation. We had everything we needed to to cook most of our meals as the kitchen was fully stocked. Quick easy drive to the beach made for a great stay. Thank you for allowing us to spend time in your home.

Family friendly

This is a great property we stayed from June 20th on for a week home was well furnished with all items that we needed. This home is less than a 5 min drive to public beach access and is very close to great dining and shopping it is located on a very quite street great for kids to ride bikes or scooters and had plenty of included items that made our stay enjoyable. My family and I will definitely be returning for another stay best rates around and very lovely home.

Relaxing Vacation!!

My husband and I just returned home from our week stay at Holden Beach. We were both so happy with our stay at Pirate Lover! We wanted to take a summer vacation, but needed to stick to a budget, and this was the perfect place! The neighborhood was nice and quiet, and we were 5 minutes from the Ocean! The place was very nice and clean! I would have no problem staying in the Pirate Lover again, if we decide to return to Holden Beach!

Our beach rental has satisfied hundreds of families over the years since 2005. It is clear that the house is close to waterway with view but a five minute drive to get to the beach. Pirate Lover has had improvements made yearly- everything you could need plus so many homey extras such as two swings- one on closed in porch and one out in the shade- toys, game machines with games, comfortable beds and seating inside and out - enough to have the feeling of home. We were disappointed to have a new griddle broken and left in the floor and holes dug throughout the yard. In staying there most of the summer ourselves we have found it to be cool and comfortable.

Perfect Little Family Getaway

We love coming to Holden Beach, specifically, we loved coming back for another year at the Pirate Lover. The property is super cute and is a perfect, no frills getaway for our small family. The neighborhood is very quiet. and family friendly for walking or bike riding. The owners are incredibly kind and responsive. Check in and out was a breeze. The kids enjoyed the videos the home owners provide. (Even the teen loved rewatching her childhood favorites, the Vegiie Tales.) We'll be making family memories here year after year for sure!

Holden Beach 2024

Great location! Nice neighbors! Comfortable and cozy. We were told we needed to bring our own linens and towels ahead of time. We underestimated the inconvenience of that, but for the price... Only feedback is that the TV streaming should be upgraded (old devices - lots of connection failures), but we were not there to watch TV. Hosts were responsive and the property was fabulous.

Glad to have you stay at Pirate Lover. We mostly use the antenna for the tv, it picks up 7 channels, there are also DVDs for the DVD player We used to do linens but stopped when Covid hit. Sorry. We hope that all our guests can appreciate the new improvements we make each year. This year alone we added the walk in shower, totally new walls in the entire house, new laminate floors everywhere but in the bedrooms as we prefer to keep them carpeted. We also built a new sunroom with 200 feet with a screened in porch with a swing. We also added a lot of roses and a stone walkway. We also added new mattresses, a new recliner, …. Beach rentals mostly don’t include linens without an extra charge so we decided to give that up. The streamer makes it possible for guests to sign in their own package which is what many of our guests do. I know you had a great stay. Hope to hear from you again.

Very Nice

My family and I had a great stay at Holden Beach. We can't wait to return. We found Porate Lover to be perfect for what ee needed. We booked it because of the price but now we would rent again cause we were so soooo comfortable. We sure made a goid memory. There's so much peace and quiet there. The bedding was as good as our own. We spent hours on the strand just enjoying the warm sunshine. The boys enjoyed riding their scooters on the nice,quiet street there,something they don't get to do at home. We could not have been happier.

Loved it!

We had a wonderful stay at Pirate Lover. The trailer felt spacious for 3 people (2 adults and my son who is 16). Everything you need is provided (minus towels and linen which is mentioned in the listing). Plenty of gaming systems (nice bonus!) and DVDs available for the kids. The front porch was our favorite place to sit and unwind. Pirate Lover is in a quiet, peaceful neighborhood just minutes from the beach. We bought our lunch every day from Jersey Girl Deli, which is located within walking distance from the trailer. The trailer was clean and exceeded our expectations. Highly recommend!

Last Minute Family Vaca

We booked this stay super last minute. Wasn’t a lot of options and this was by far the cheapest and best access to the beach we could find. Super quiet neighborhood on a dead end street. Fenced in yard was a plus for us with two young children. The screened in porch was nothing less than great. Inside the house was good, we had some issues with a musty/moldy smell as well as an issue with cockroaches both dead and alive. The home wasn’t really cleaned all that well either. Overall we enjoyed our stay and the ease of going to and from the beach and surrounding restaurants and grocery stores.

Glad you enjoyed the neighborhood, porch, and area. We have had many satisfied renters, this summer and in previous years, including numerous return guests- some returning four or more times. We did communicate with you about the issues you noted. The maid had been in the house for a cleaning, the day before you arrived. We do have a contract with a reputable pest control company. They come regularly, including for in-between "tune-ups" as needed. They came the day after you expressed your concern to us. Respectfully, I hope future renters will consider all of our reviews when making their decision. We are responsive, and we do provide a well-cared for home that we are confident will meet your vacation/ comfort needs!

It is a place to stay

Cons: I did not see anywhere they had cameras on the property which I understand have cameras for safety, but it would have been nice to know they were there as I was not aware of that until I got a text asking to please not tamper with them. After the fact there was no way, I could have even reached the camera as I am 5'1 and the camera was up higher than that. When I went to make up the queen bed someone had left a pair of shorts between the mattress and foot board that looked like they had been there a while & I left on the footboard. The gate and chain were sort of a pain making sure it was continuously closed which in the description they do ask you to keep the gate closed but I did not realize how annoying it would actually be until you are trying to load or unload the car and trying to carry stuff out and have to open the gate that has a logging chain through it. Pros: The neighborhood was nice and coming in one night we did see deer at a neighbor's house. We really were not at the house long enough during the day. We would get up head out and come back late so the only time we were really at the house was to shower and sleep. It was a close drive to the beach and shops like in the description. We usually stay on Oak Island and rent through a realtor or a hotel but decided to change it up this year. I do appreciate the host opening up their home however I will probably continue to stay in Oak Island and drive to Holden if we want a change of scenery.

This is in response to the comments in Leslie's review. 1. We disclose that there are cameras. Of course, they're outside only. When the guests arrived, they blacked out. So we asked them to just leave them as they are- we didn't state that they had done anything to them. 2. Regarding the gate. We ask guests to close the gate when they' leave, or when they come in for the day. We don't literally expect anyone to close it as they walk back and forth with luggage or groceries. It is easy to close, just like closing a door. Pirate Lover is the best it's ever been- new laminate floors, new walk in shower, beautiful sunroom in the front. These are the things guests will notice. Please consider the many pleasant reviews, when you make your decision about where you will stay- if you choose Pirate Lover at Holden Beach, I am sure you will be happy with your choice, like 95% of our guests are.

We are Tony, Sybil, and Caleb Dralle. Sybil is a life-long NC resident; Tony has been here for 30 years, and Caleb for 90% of his life. Sybil is a retired History and English Teacher, Tony is a professor of Composition at Western Governors University, and Caleb is a firefighter and EMT in multiple departments in North Carolina.
We love Pirate Lover, and have been enjoying it for 20 years. We've done a lot to the home over the years, and think you'll find it a great place for your weekend, week-long, or seasonal stay at Holden Beach!

Why they chose this property

Holden Beach is the family beach! Holden Beach is very low key., little traffic to deal with. Our house is on a nice paved cut-de-sac. It is a great place to let your children ride their bikes. The yard is fenced in to protect small children from the traffic-not for housing pets. Pets are NOT allowed. We love animals but do not have them around due to allergies. No linens/towels provided due to COVID.

Pirate Lover is close to the beach and the waterway. It is in a very pleasant neighborhood. You are also only a few minutes from Calabash, a planetarium, the USS NC Battleship, shops in Wilmington, and so much more.
