We thoroughly enjoyed our stay…the home has everything we needed for our two week stay. Highly recommended. Great communication, amazing kitchen…safe walkable neighborhood.
My sister needed help getting out of her four bedroom house of 40 years and into an assisted living apartment so members of her far-flung family came from 5 states, converging in this house's beautiful state-of-the-art kitchen. The large dining room and two dining tables of this house accommodated meals for up to 17 people during our in-between work sessions holiday celebrations. Interior design elements are still to be added to this house, but all the important elements are in place. Owner Ray was responsive to our every need and a gracious host. We left feeling proud of what we were able to do for our sister and with memories of the house and the activities we were able to carry out within.
My husband, kids (7, 4 and 2) and I stayed here for a month in the summer. This house is perfect for families—great kitchen for cooking, nice outdoor seating, three upstairs bedrooms. I didn’t know anything about this neighborhood (picked it because it’s not far from my parents’), but it was great. Very quiet and diverse, lots of parks nearby.

Would be good for traveling families
This was a nice place, the kitchen is very updated and also the 3 bedrooms. The bonus room with two bed is pre-renovation but allows for additional sleeping. Dining area also allows for a larger family gathering. Not far from the Detroit Zoo. We used it for business training trip for employees of The Great Escape Room (in Royal Oak) and it was nice to have everyone in one place instead of in separate hotel rooms. We would book this home again.

Nice & Pleasant stay - but NOT a 4 Bedroom
I'll start with the positives, Roy is very accommodating and nice. The house is super well appointed in the kitchen and with linens. The kitchen is fantastic and a great place to prepare meals. Roy let us enjoy some veggies from the backyard garden which were amazing.
Now the negatives, the bathroom had a super dirty liner when we arrived, we called Roy and he came to replace it right away, but kinda skeeved me out. The 4th bedroom is NOT a real bedroom. Make sure you get photos! It has no AC/Heat, ceiling tiles are falling down, the floor is ripped up and the walls are crumbling. There are two beds in there, but it's super creepy, more like a glorified garage. I ended up having to book a hotel for my parents instead of having them stay with us in the house. It's bad. I'm sure if it gets renovated it will be a nice space, but as of now, no. It does mention this in the listing, but I seriously never imagined it would be as bad as it was. I should have asked for photos. Roy was kind enough to work with us on the rate though so it ended out being fine, just a heads up for future renters. That being said, the rest of the house was in great condition and appeared as expected in the photos. Basement was clean and provided laundry which was a great feature. I would recommend this house if you're looking for a place in Detroit, but only as a 3 bedroom rental.

Response from VrboOwner on 18 January 2021
I always appreciate the feedback from my renters, Rachel was totally correct with the liner, I have all my houses professionally cleaned and I strive to have all my houses totally spotless for all my renters (check my reviews here and the "other" mayor website for the reviews of all my houses), I didn't use my regular cleaning ladies for that booking and we totally missed checking the liner and that's unacceptable, we dropped the ball, I appreciate Rachel mentioning this, this will never happen again.
Regarding the bedroom, I put in the description very clear that the room is rough around the edges and used to be a work area, I mention this again before someone books just to double make sure everything is ok, unfortunately Rachel booked a few months back and so I didn't stress this issue with her and I didn't have a picture of the room up at the time of her booking so I understood her position and gave her a discount, there's nothing worse for me to have one of my guests to be dissatisfied, I will l say that she left the house very clean and tidy, excellent guest.
Regarding the 4th bedroom not being a bedroom, it holds a total of 3 queen beds (2 queen beds and an optional queen air mattress) and has come very handy for the big families, you can take a look at the pictures and I'll leave that decision up to the prospective renter (last 4 photos). Also want to clarify that the room does have heat (it's own mini gas furnace) and A/C (portable A/C) which is convenient if you want to set your own temperature independent of the rest of the house.
* UPDATE - since 2018 this room has been totally renovated as a brand new bedroom with a King Bed, work desk, TV and an in-suite bathroom walk in shower.

Well-appointed house and gracious host
Roy was a kind and skillful host who was accommodating to all our needs and requests, which were few, because the house had been prepared in anticipation of most travelers' needs. I would love to see the finished product when the house is completely renovated, because what Roy has done so far in the kitchen is spectacular, high-end finishes and appliances as well as all the kitchen ware and utensils a cook can need. The house is great for accommodating larger groups with a dining table that easily sat 8 adults and a baby.
We would strongly recommend this property to anyone looking to stay in the Metro Detroit area especially because Roy is the owner/host.

Comfortable and homey
We enjoyed our stay here. The description of the home was accurate and easy to find. We were close to the expressways and restaurants and stores. The kitchen is beautiful with the new appliances, and the dining area is large enough for a large get together. And while the rest of the house is a work in progress, it was clean and neat. Perfect for families that like to cook and spend time together. The neighborhood was safe and there was a school park nearby. Perfect for our little one, who needed to get out and play. Plenty of clean towels for the six of us. Rooms were clean and spacious and offered privacy when needed. Roy was attentive and willing to answer questions if we had any. We would definitely stay here again.

Great stay!!
My family and I were in town for a funeral. Roy (the owner) was more than attentive to our needs. The house is beautiful and in a great neighborhood. Anyone who is familiar with Detroit should appreciate that. I couldn't have prayed for a better experience. 2 thumbs up!!

Perfect location for our stay in Metro Detroit
This property is located in a nice neighborhood and was perfect for our stay in metro Detroit. For us, it was both close to family and an easy drive to Greektown and to Ford Field (where we watched the Lions beat up on the Eagles Thanksgiving day). Roy, the owner, was easy to communicate with and very attentive to our needs. We were the first renters of this property and were impressed by the newly renovated kitchen and powder room. We would definitely rent from Roy again at either this or one of his other Detroit area homes :)

I love the vacation rental business so now I have switched full time to it, I found that I get more fulfillment getting a great review about how my property helped someone have a great vacation than staring at a computer screen, so here I am :). I have 2 full time vacation rentals and another part time. I'm totally dedicated to providing the absolute best service to my guests!
