About this property
Perfect 2000 Sq/ft Cape On Dead-end St, 5 Min To Beach & Nickerson & Rail-trail
This full Cape was built in the 1960s by an antique home restoration tradesman. The first and second floor were built true to the plans and architecture of an antique Cape style home, the finished walk-out basement is a modern amenity included for it's practical nature. This home is truly unique, and upon entering you will be transported back in time, first to a more formal colonial era on the first floor, with the wrought-iron door hardware and thumb-latch door catches, the wide pine floors, the nine-over-six windows, the era-appropriate wallpaper in the living room and the butcher block counter tops. As you climb the stairway to the second floor the transition to a more rudimentary and rustic way of life will encompass you. From the rough plaster walls to the reclaimed exposed wood beams and floors, to the blacksmith forged hardware on every door and cabinet, it feels like you are in another time period. Every room is drenched with character, from the angled storage cabinetry in the third bedroom to the 'secret' passageway that passes between two of the rooms (We'll say no more, this is for you to discover!), to the tiny window that looks down upon the mudroom from the master bedroom. The basement is another world entirely, with its 55 drawer antique apothecary cabinet built in (discover what is in the drawers!) to the additional custom cabinetry and beautiful pine floors. Outside, there is an abundance of parking with a large private yard, and the home is on a dead-end street with no more than 9 homes past ours, so traffic is extremely minimal. We have met many of our neighbors, and they are friendly, welcoming and helpful. This is truly the perfect place for your Cape Cod vacation.
A 5-minute car ride from this unique three-story home brings you to sweeping Crosby Landing or Linnell Lane Beaches, considered Brewster's best by many. Both are beautiful and sandy bay side beaches with gentle waves for younger children. At low tide, the water recedes and leaves the Brewster Flats exposed -- a fun place to walk and explore nature or go for an evening stroll and enjoy the beautiful sunsets.
This house is part of a quiet, upscale, East Brewster neighborhood. It is the ideal summer vacation location for a large single family, a multi-generational family or two young families. A 5-minute bike ride (you may use any of the six nearly-new Specialized Expedition bicycles, added this year) takes you to the Cape Cod Rail Trail. From here its a 5 minute ride to Nickerson State Park, or less than a 10 minute ride to Crosby Landing Beach. Once on the Rail Trail you can ride for miles in either direction. You can use the Rail Trail for short adventures, like going for a Smoothie at the Chocolate Sparrow in Orleans, or day-long outings, such as riding to the National Seashore in Eastham with its stunning broad beaches right on the Atlantic.
Back at the house, there's plenty of space to spread out and comfortable furnishings where everyone in your group can relax. Each bedroom and the basement have window air conditioning window units to keep you cool on those hot summer days.
The main floor has beautiful wide-pine floors in almost every room, a spacious living room and formal dining room with corner hutch. Your entire group will comfortably fit around the large dining table on those occasions when you're not dining outside on the roomy and private deck. The bright spacious kitchen with lots of natural light and butcher block counter top is extremely well-equipped and includes all the dishes, utensils, pots, pans and tools you will need to make that perfect meal including your classic cape vacation lobster dinner. The rustic mudroom with a cathedral ceiling, exposed wood beams, and lots of natural light is just off the kitchen through two large French doors which can be left open to join these two rooms as one. The main level also has a bright master bedroom with a queen-sized bed with plenty of closet space and a full bath with heated wide pine flooring.
The upper level of the house provides a second full bath. There are also three more bedrooms, which contain lots of natural light, wide pine flooring, and vaulted ceilings with exposed wood beams. Two bedrooms are furnished with queen-sized beds and the third with two twin-sized beds. Each of the three bedrooms on this level have plenty of closet space for you to store all your belongings.
The spacious basement is set up as an entertainment/recreation area and contains a Ping-Pong table, a new (June 2020) TCL 55" Roku smart television, plenty of comfortable seating including a beautiful leather sofa, and a daybed with trundle which sleeps two. It has wide pine flooring, a third full bath, and the walls are a combination of windows with a walkout door, and exquisite custom made cabinetry. This is a great place to hang out on a rainy day or after returning from a busy day of exploring or biking or a casual day spent at the beach. It also makes an ideal separate play space for kids and is a perfect family/TV room.
Outside is the custom built (by the owner) "Shabby Chic Pallet/Teak Shower Shack, with a changing bench - the perfect place to clean off after a day at the beach. The large deck with it's gas grille provides a convenient place for your outdoor grilling, with plenty of provides comfortable seating and a locking gate to keep your toddlers safe.

Fred and Carol’s house is so filled with love and care and charm. We so enjoyed discovering the poems and joyful signs around the home - and we had a six year old with us who literally found the stay truly magical. Toys to discover at every turn! We only wish we could have stayed longer to use the bikes and discover more! Thank you for sharing your home!
My family and I had a very nice week at this Cape Cod home. Everything was as communicated by the owners very well laid out and labeled. All the Cape activities and necessities were within a short drive. Perfect for groups of 10 or less, would definitely go back again.
Great home had 3 children and 7 Adults, lots to do great yard for games, outdoor shower is outstanding, enjoyed the fire pit and nature of the backyard; deer and chipmunks kept the grand kids looking....thank you to the owners very accommodating and easy to get a hold of.
Home has everything needed to enjoy a great vacation. Everything was there as described in VRBO ad. The bikes made an extra special time for our family. Fred offered great information on dining and things to do We made many happy memories at the Cape at this home away from home.
The house was beautiful, clean and roomy enough for 8 adults to be comfy with room to spread out. Bikes provided save us having to rent them, which was great! Owners were readily accessible by text, and helpful. Plenty of parking, and close to many conveniences without being on the main road. We're already planning to return next year.
We enjoyed staying in the house.it was roomy and comfortable. We all loved the outside shower. There was plenty of hot water for 7 of us to shower. Very nice appliances and kitchen has everything you need. Nice grill and nice to have bikes to ride.
The house is great - it has many hanging-out spots from the peaceful back deck to the basement with ping pong table, games galore and television viewing area. The house has many fascinating, unique features and it feels like a house well-loved that has hosted many special gatherings including our two weeks there in July 2024 with our family. Great communication with owners who are very responsive and attentive.
Hello, we had a great stay here. It's perfect for families, no need to bring board games, they have a ton for all age ranges. It was super easy contacting our hosts with any issues, which were resolved promptly. The check-out cleaning process is a little more stringent than what I've been used to on VRBO, but still well worth the stay. The only suggestion I'd make for improvement is placing blinds/shades on the bedroom windows.

Thank you for the constructive input! We will be installing blinds in the bedrooms prior to next year's rental season.
This home was a terrific, centrally located respite. It was quiet and private when we wanted to relax - but close to Crosby Landing beach which was perfect, sunsets, shops, supermarket…just a short drive to Chatham Fish Pier and Orleans. Fred & Carol were quick to respond to any questions we had, and gave us their recommendations. The home is charming and roomy. Everyone had their space - the teens enjoyed the finished basement with ping pong, puzzles and games. You can tell that Fred & Carol love this home - we thank them for sharing it with our friends and family!
House was quite cute --not as clean as I had hoped for or expected. Refrigerator handles had gunk on them, counters were dirty. Rec room / walk out basement was very musty smelling. Would not want anyone to spend a lot of time there due to the smell.

Re cleanliness: For 2021 we hired new cleaners, and have had very positive feedback on the cleanliness of the house.
Re musty basement: For 2021 we added a dehumidifier to the basement and that has taken care of the musty odor. No negative feedback on this issue from our guests this year
Our family enjoyed a wonderful Cape Cod vacation! This home was for perfect for our get together. The grandkids especially loved the downstairs with the ping-pong table, the games, and the comfy sofa ! The back deck was perfect as it had enough seating for all of the family to get together for dinner . It was a very comfortable home and very well maintained. We would definitely go back. The hydrangeas in the yard were also beautiful ! The backyard is nice and grassy for the kids to play in. I enjoyed using one of the specialized bikes to go for a ride on the rail trail a few times. The house is conveniently located right off of 6A ,we were able to go to Crosby Beach, and also Nickerson State Park.. Close to the grocery stores too . Thank you again!

Spacious three level cape with beautiful deck, backyard and neighborhood for an evening stroll.
Absolutely loved this cozy home. Bikes available to ride; chairs and coolers for the beach; endless seating; and a quiet neighborhood for bike riding and walking with the kids. Lots of bunnies running through the yard and a family of turkeys walking around! The chiminea was a hit for s'mores and the grill was our go-to for money saving meals at home. Comfy beds and even more comfortable living room furniture. Many ping pong tournaments were played in the basement and we loved stretching out on the sectional sofa in the finished basement.
Local beach is only a mile away and was fairly quiet even on the weekend. Make sure to check your tide chart, conveniently provided for you on the fridge, before heading to the beach as low tide goes waaaaay out and swimming is difficult. Great for young children though! We still spent hours floating away on boogie boards and collecting rocks and shells. Grocery store is 5 minutes away and centrally located for a 15-20 minute trip to the national seashore or Yarmouth/Chatham for the South shore.
If we return to Cape Cod next year we will be staying here for sure!
I stayed here with my wife, 3 children (ages 10, 8, 3), and in-laws for a week in August 2020 and had a great time.
I will start with a couple of the "negatives" or things that could be improved for future guests (some of which I have already shared with the owners):
1) The main floor can get quite warm, even when it is breezy outside. An additional AC unit or two would be help. It would also be a good idea to have the cleaners turn the air on when guests are arriving later that day to make it more comfortable upon arrival
2) It would be great to offer additional/newer beach chairs and possibly linens for guests to use. They are nice amenities to minimize the amount of things a family needs to pack and take care of themselves
Other than that, lots of positives to mention:
1) Great location: quiet neighborhood, short walk to Cape Cod Rail Trail, short drive to Orleans beaches, restaurants, etc
2) Great communication: Fred was very responsive before, during, and after our stay, usually replying to any texts very quickly
3) Ping Pong Table: A great offering when travelling with kids
4) Outdoor Shower: Best one I have ever used - huge and great to use after a day at the beach.
5) Large back deck/table
6) Relaxing adirondack chairs under large tree in the front yard
7) Great collection of books to enjoy while there
Overall, a great week in Brewster/Orleans that we hope to repeat in the years to come

First, to respond to the negatives: For 2021 we purchased 3 new AC units for the main floor (replacing the bedroom unit and adding one each to the living room and dining room. These units together cool the entire main floor quite nicely..
Re the beach chairs: For 2021 we added 4 new beach chairs and added several 'butterfly' style chairs to those available for our guests. We also built a rack to keep them organized and easily accessible.
Now, re your stay in our home: It was wonderful to have you and your family as guests. We look forward to your returning in the years to come! Thank you for both the positive and negative feedback. It assists us in improving our home for future guests...
We have rented homes for about 30 years now. We prefer our rental to be homey, not "sterile". This house fit the bill! The interior is beautiful and shows the personality of the homeowners. The lot is spacious, which allowed for our multiple cars and kayak trailer. We loved that there were several spaces to relax; we could commune on the deck for our "Happy Hour" while also moving to separate spaces (living room and basement) to allow for different interests. The owners were extremely responsive to all of our questions/concerns. I would highly recommend this rental property!
The house is beautiful and has lots of charm. The options to eat at home and close-by restaurants made dinner an easy and fun experience. Reasonably priced lobster cooked for you by Shaws 3 minutes away makes for an affordable and yummy surf and turf. The Cape Cod Rail Trail is closeby, and the bikes are in great shape. The beaches are so close, and the sunsets are amazing. Fred and Carol were in touch whenever we needed them and did a great job checking in via text. Love the little notes and poems throughout the house. Pictures of the house are accurate, and the house is as good as it looks! We had two families with four adults and four teenagers in the house and was comfortable; everyone had enough space. HIGHLY RECOMMEND the house and Fred and Carol as hosts. We will definitely be back!
The house was lovely and with enough room for 8 adults. We loved the use of the bikes with easy access to the Rail Trail and Crosby Beach which is beautiful. The Crosby Mansion tour was a great find, too. We hope to come back next year!!
Lovely Cape inside and out. Well stocked with everything needed for a comfortable stay. Owners Fred and Carol were extremely attentive and wonderful to communicate with, went out of their way to ensure our comfort. Replaced a/c in the basement immediately when we let them know it was not working. Out door shower very unique and functional, Kitchen well equiped . Great stay ! We will be back.
We had a great time staying here! The owners were very responsive and the house had everything we needed. We vacationed with friends and had a total of 4 adults, 2 11-year-olds, 2 9-year-olds, and a 2-year-old. The house had plenty of room for all of us. The kids loved the bikes, and we thought it was great that we didn't need to bring our own. We loved the location...it was close to beaches and a central location on the cape. We would definitely stay here again!
All details are accurate on the listing - bedrooms, living room, rec room, kitchen, and bathrooms - the house provided plenty of space for the 9 of us! Deck with xl table and plenty of chairs, grill with 2 spare tanks, all made for a lovely family cookout. We were able to have friends over for dinner, allowing us to seat 14 people, both indoors and outside. Ping pong table and xl tv in rec room, with dvds, smart tv, etc, allowed for fun rainy afternoon and evening activities. All of this is so close to Nickerson State Park, multiple bay and ocean side beaches, Shaw's grocery store, etc.
Amazing supply of kitchen tools, pots/pans, dishes, and types of glassware provided. Air Conditioners in most all the rooms was a saving grace factor when the humidity and heat rose significantly the last day or two we were there. The 6 bicycles and the beach chairs were phenomenally convenient and in great shape!
communications were quick and Fred and Carol also sent helpful local tips on rainy day activities, as well as beach advice.
We had a GREAT family vacation and will happily book again in the future!

The description of this house and the surrounding area is very accurate, and tells you everything you need to know about it. The house was clean, well stocked, comfortable, spacious for a typical Cape house, and very user friendly. Instructions on where things are, and how to use them were very helpful. Fred and Carol have clearly put a lot of thought and effort into making their guests' experience easy and enjoyable.
We have stayed in many locations on the Cape, and this one is one of the best. Close to Rt. 6, grocery store, liquor store, beaches and the awesome Rail Trail. Having bikes at the house, instead of bringing ours from home, or renting, was so convenient! The neighborhood is quiet, and walk-able.
From before we even arrived, throughout our stay and after we left, Fred and Carol were very communicative and responsive. We cracked the glass coffee carafe towards the end of the week, and when I told Fred about it, there was a new coffee maker delivered the next day! You can tell that Fred and Carol know and care about their house, and truly want their guests to enjoy it. We hope to return next summer!
Great House for a family. Plenty of bedroom space for the whole family. The basement is great with the Ping Pong Table and whole hang out area. Great deck for grilling and eating. The house also offers a lot of bikes if you want them and beach chairs - stuff like that. The Cape Cod Rail trail is easy to get to from this house - as is the National Cape Cod Seashore and many Bay Beaches. Nice backyard with a Chimnea too. The owners are very courteous and the house is very organized for your stay. The cleaning crew was late for our arrival - but that is not normal. Really good house and owners - you could fit a family of 8 easily - and probably a little more.
The house was conveniently located to ocean and bay side beaches. We had a blast playing ping pong, making s'mores, and riding bikes. Will definitely be looking into renting again next year!
Our week on the Cape was extra special due to our wonderful stay in Brewster.
From the beautiful touches and woodwork throughout the house to the expansive property, our family was so lucky to have found this gem.
The location was very convenient to the bayside beaches, the Rail Trail and to Rte. 6. We took advantage of all of the provided amenities, such as the large selection of bikes (all in great condition), the spacious outdoor shower, the downstairs ping pong table, the chimnea in the huge yard, etc.
The owners, Fred & Carol couldn’t have been more hospitable, accessible and resourceful.
Just an amazing stay in a lovely Cape home.....we miss it already.

About the host
Hosted by Fred and Carol
We purchased this property in November 2016, after a long search for a cape home that would suit all of our desires. Our intention is to rent on-season and eventually retire to this home. We wish to share this property with anyone who will enjoy, respect, and care for it as we do.
Why they chose this property
To the vacation home seeker, This home is truly unique, and upon entering you will be transported back in time, first to a more formal colonial era on the first floor, with it's wrought-iron door hardware and thumb-latch door catches, the wide pine floors, the era-appropriate wallpaper in the living room and the butcher block countertops. The basement is another world entirely, with its 55 drawer antique apothecary cabinet built in (discover what is in the drawers!) to the additional custom cabinetry and beautiful wide pine floors. There is even a fireplace in the basement (non-functional) but it certainly adds to the character and beauty of this space. Outside, there is an abundance of parking, a large private yard, and the home is on a dead-end street with no more than 9 homes past ours, so traffic is extremely minimal. We have met many of our neighbors, and they are friendly, welcoming and helpful. This is truly the perfect place for your Cape Cod vacation. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions. Sincerely, Fred and Carol
