About this property
Don’t Rough it When You’re Away From Home; Stay at the Elliott House.
The Elliott House was built in 1864 and sits on 5 acres of well-manicured lawn, flower beds and towering maple trees, yet only minutes away from the local universities and town beach and parks. The house is surrounded by beautiful meadows and is only 4 miles away from the beautiful St. Lawrence River, that borders the U.S and Canada. All bedrooms are generously equipped with luxurious bedding with access to wireless high-speed internet and they all come standard with a healthy dose of historical charm, not to mention the ample views of wildlife in the fields.
Although the Elliott House is 154 years old, it has been greatly updated to maximize your comfort while at the same time preserving a lot of the history and charms that will make you want to return again and again, like many of our past guests. It has been said to me that our pictures posted don't do us justice. The house has central air that cools the entire house and has a whole home filtration system so you can drink the water from the well and wash your clothes without worrying of staining them from mineral content found in some country homes. We also have bottled water delivered for your comfort.
Our Vacation home is unique in that its initial purpose is to be our vacation home and when we remodeled the house, higher grade material and craftsmanship was used to give us the level of comfort we personally come to expect whether we are at our home in Pennsylvania or here in Madrid, NY. With our level of comfort will come the piece of mind you will have knowing your stay will be a good one and hope you will return again.
When you rent our home you will be the only people occupying it. There may be things in the cupboards and fridge, for experienced renters, might find odd, such as brownie mix etc, but feel free to use what is there. The Elliott House is great for families that like to make meals and spend time with their family.
The kitchen was completely remodeled in 2020 with Amish made Cherry cabinets, stainless steel appliances, and big new windows to allow the sun to come in. The kitchen comes stocked with everything you need to make meals and memories.
When you first open the door and see the 8 ft ceilings and beautiful hardwood floors that sweep pass the 7 ft double doors into the living room it's like stepping back in time. The living room has plenty of sitting area where you can congregate and watch TV or take in family time. The kitchen has all the utensils to cook a family dinner and a large dining room table where a good dinner and family can visit in comfort. The patio at the rear of the house is a great place to start and end your day while at the same time view the deer and turkeys that WILL show up during your stay. I love the mature Maples and the shade they make.
Plan your perfect day trip to Lake Placid, Ottawa, or Montreal is only a short drive away. The Universities, Clarkson, St.Lawrence, SUNY Canton and SUNY Potsdam are only a stones throw away from the Elliott House.
One thing my wife and I like to do is take a 20 minute drive to Heuvelton, which is an Amish community and enjoy the day shopping their roadside stands. I call it the Amish experience. You will find eggs, jams, vegetables, soaps, bread of all kinds, as well as various crafts. If you are looking for something custom made such as cabinets and furniture, they will take your order. We love Heuvelton and urge you not to miss this experience.
I guess I really didn't know what I had until I shared the area and the Elliott House with our friends and it started to sink in that not many people have experienced living in a country home, fishing on the St. Lawrence and playing in the fields. I heard my 10 year old neighbor boy say to his parents "this was the best vacation, ever." We truly want you to enjoy your stay and have a great experience visiting northern N.Y. We love our home and are sure you will too.
Book the Elliott House today.
History:
The home was once owned by Jim and Jesse Elliott and I was raised on the farm across the road. Jim was a surveyor for the Gas company and Jesse was a housewife raising two girls. I always remembered how Jesse labored over her flower beds and had one of the best manicured yards in the North Country. No matter the growing season, you could always find a flower bed in full bloom...I always enjoyed the Lilac bushes.

We travel all over the country and stay often in vrbo and this is one of the best we have ever stayed in. Highly recommend and we will stay here again.
Lovely historic home with plenty of space and amenities. We enjoyed staying here while visiting family for the holiday - had a fantastic kitchen and amazing views. Will definitely stay here again.
This spacious, updated home was again a perfect location for gathering our family. We found the kitchen well appointed and plenty of bath towels. The views from all sides of the property are lovely.
We had a great time staying here, very clean and spacious for 9 of us. The kids enjoyed running around in the large yard and the rear patio makes a great place to sit and watch them. I would stay here again if we are ever back in the area
A beautiful home and property, perfect for our stay. The property owner Stephen was a great communicator, and was extremely patient with me throughout the process, which was so greatly appreciated.
It was everything I expected. Clean property, helpful owner, lots of wildlife to enjoy. I plan on staying here again should I return to the area. Thank you!
Charming historical property with expansive views and impeccable cleanliness
We found the Elliott House spotlessly clean, and perfect for our family weekend visiting our student at college. It is an updated yet historically charming, spacious, and beautifully kept home with plenty of room to spread out and yet enjoy family time gathered together. Thank you for sharing your lovely home.
The star of this rental is the large kitchen and accompanying back deck; both have been nicely updated. There are multiple rooms with twin beds for fun visits with extended family. Other than the kitchen, the furnishings are a bit dated. The owner was extremely quick to respond to all questions.
The Elliot House exceeded our expectations. It is nicely appointed with plenty of space both indoors and outdoors for large families or gatherings. The kitchen is user friendly and very well equipped. We had excellent communication with the host. The stairs to the lovely bedrooms are quite steep. My elderly Mom managed, but they may prove too difficult for some. There is one bedroom on the main floor as well. The near by town of Waddington offers provisions and a paved riverside walk. The Elliot House truly is a gem. It will not disappoint.
We were looking for a place to stay for a college graduation. We needed adult couples to have seperate rooms and offer privacy. The Elliot House was perfect. There was a downstairs room for the grandparents who had difficulty with stairs and plenty of upstairs rooms for the other guests. The kitchen was spacious and extremely functional. A large dining room accommodated our gathering for breakfast and lunches. We enjoyed the back patio and picnic table for an after graduation cook out on the gas grill. The sunset over the field was super!
Communication with our host was top notch and he offered great tips about local resources and activities to entertain us during our stay. Great house and great host. Would definitely recommend it.
Everything about this house was perfect. Steven is a very proactive owner, responds very quickly to inquiries and makes sure you have everything you need to know before you arrive.
The house itself is beautiful - the kitchen is modern and super well stocked from an appliance and accessory perspective. All the pots, pans, utencils, plates etc. are in great shape, clean and very, very well organized.
The water cooler is a great addition as well and the front porch and back patio are perfect places to relax in the morning.
We can’t wait to go back.
First, communication with the host has been great! Check in was seamless and no issues at all during our stay.
This house, with all its history, is lovely! It’s location , the view and the scenery around the house is picture perfect! It’s very clean and has the feel of your own home. We’re so glad to have found it, it had enough room for our family.
Thank you for opening your house to us!!
We loved our stay at the Elliot house . We came to upper state New York for a family wedding . Very clean and up to date ! The view was amazing from the back patio if you like wildlife it’s the place for you !
We rented the Elliott House in Waddington, NY because our son graduated Clarkson University. The house is about 15 minutes from Clarkson, it is an 1860 farmhouse that has been beautifully restored and updated. Large beautiful kitchen and large rooms, plenty of space with 5 bedrooms and 2 baths. House is fully furnished with everything we needed to cook, etc. The house was very clean and we even got to see a very rare piebald deer across the street. We had a wonderful time at the Elliott House!
I LOVED staying at the Elliot House!!! At first I was a little freaked out, as I could not find the kitchen, I arrived at night and was a little spooked. My eldest Son (student at St. Lawrence went through the house to make sure his Mom would be safe). Finally, after some aggressive pulling at a door we found the kitchen. The whole house is lovely!!! The kitchen is so special and more than adequately stocked with utensils. The first night I slept like a log-I was so tired. In the morning, I made some coffee and traversed through the kitchen back door to sit in a chair on the porch and drink my coffee. The city was behind me, I knew I was in the country, staying in an old farm house at that point. The birds were chirping, I saw a gofer (and used the provided binoculars to check him out closely). The stress of work just melted away!
Staying at this house is a truly special experience and I HIGHLY recommend it. I will definitely stay there again when visiting my son. Thank you Steve!
We stayed for parents weekend. It was a 15 minute drive to Clarkson, easy drive. And it gave us a great place to give our college students a nice home cooked meal.
The house is absolutely beautiful! It was more than enough room for my family and the bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, dining room, living room were so nice. The kitchen was stocked with all cooking utensils, pots and pans .etc, that you could need. Even dish detergent, dish clothes...etc. They had spices so you didn't have to worry about bringing salt and pepper...etc. The mattresses were very comfortable. We were able to visit Lake Placid which was about 2 hours away and then go to 1000 islands about 1 hour away. We are definitely planning on coming again.
