About this property
Diamond Retreat: Haven of Peace and Quiet - great location on the peninsula!
The house is situated in a quiet area, and since the start of Covid-19, the cleaning protocols are more stringent and detailed (wiping down typically touches surfaces throughout kitchen, switches, etc) with the use of disinfectants, a min of 1-2 nights between guests, airing the house (when the weather accommodates), wipes & hand-cleaner available for guest use.
NOTE:
Summer requests to be a minimum of 6 nights if 4 months or more in advance.
Please Inquire regarding Off-Season discounts for 2 weeks or more (Oct-May).
If you have specific questions or considerations, do not hesitate to ask in advance of booking.
Groceries are easy to obtain from Sunny Farms (1st choice), QFC, Safeway and other stores.
Recreation is close at hand via foot from the house, to the rocky beach, into Miller peninsula forest & state park, and close access to the Discovery trail for biking, walking, etc. The adjacent Discovery Bay is great for kayaking with a number of access places.
The house is fully equipped with kitchen items & utensils, so you would only need to bring food. The garden is ever improving, with many varieties of spring & summer blossoms.
Diamond Retreat is nestled on the Strait of Juan de Fuca, on the northwest corner of Discovery Bay in Diamond Point, on the Olympic Peninsula; Diamond Retreat is a fully furnished home, decorated with original art by Northwest artists. It has a huge covered front porch with comfortable furniture and view to the Strait of Juan de Fuca, a beautiful front garden, and a back yard that borders Miller State Park.
Situated in a quiet area, with access to Sequim, Port Townsend, Olympic National Park (many access points), Olympic Music festival, Quilcene, Dungeness Spit, and many more areas – this is a great place to spend many days. Located only 37 miles from the Edmonds-Kingston ferry.
House was built in 1997 and has a very efficient heating-cooling system, modern kitchen (with lots of accessories); two large bedrooms; and comfortable, well lit living space with vaulted ceiling and wood stove.
Property is 'back' one lot from a steep bluff, overlooking the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Access is a circuitous hike through the backwoods down to the water or via the drive NE via Diamond Point RD.
LIVING RM has comfortable seating for 6, convertible sofa bed, TV (Netflix, & Prime avail), games, puzzles, music system, Wifi access throughout house.
MASTER BEDRM has king bed, large closet, desk, dresser, and private Bathroom with tub/shower.
2nd BEDRM has Queen bed, desk, dresser, closet.
HALL BATHRM has walk-in shower.
If requesting to use the Sofa-bed in addition to the two bedrooms, requires an extra-person charge.
ACCESS: There are two steps to front porch, and all living spaces are on one level. The hallway is extra wide, and bedroom and bathroom doors are all wide. Rear deck has space for seating, and five steps down to backyard.
Beautiful east facing covered porch with view to Strait of Juan de Fuca, overlooking the front garden, and undeveloped lot across, full of cedars and singing birds. Beyond the back fence is over 2000 acres of undeveloped land, trails, and beach access.
The focal viewpoint is Protection Island in the Strait of Juan de Fuca, to the north. This is a magnificent rocky outcrop that is a Federally protected National Wildlife Refuge. Protection Island is known for its breeding colony of Tufted Puffin, rhinoceros auklets, and gulls. It is on the flyway for many migrating birds. Seals, sea lions, orcas, and other cetaceans are often seen nearby. Beyond Protection Island, are views to the San Juan Islands, Mt. Baker, and Vancouver Island.
You can hop on your bike and explore the endless trails of the adjacent Miller Peninsula State Park, take a walk on the meandering quiet streets of the neighborhood. A ten-minute walk will bring you to a private beach that goes on for miles in either direction, at the bottom of the cliff.
WALKING & HIKING: Many hiking trails within 30-60 min. including Dungeness Spit, upper Dungeness area, Deer Park, Hurricane Ridge, Quilcene, Dosewallips, etc.
BICYCLING: Close access to the Discovery Bike trail, a mostly separated and paved bicycle, walking route, starting at Sequim Bay on the east end and Port Angeles, on the west. Also other great road riding and mountain biking nearby.
A wonderful bike trail is the "Discovery Trail" running from Sequim Bay to Port Angeles, the majority is separated from vehicular traffic. http://www.olympicdiscoverytrail.com/index.html

About the host
Hosted by Jay Lazerwitz

Jay is an architect with his own practice and is also an artist; painting in encaustic (with beeswax), printmaking, and log carving. I am passionate about hiking, bicycling, skiing, camping and sea kayaking.
Why they chose this property
Over the years, I have rented cabins near Sequim several times and have grown very fond of this area because there is so much to explore along with quiet relaxation. The mountains are nearby, yet the distance between mountains and shore is vast and offers much opportunities for walks and hikes. Some of my favorite places are the Miller Peninsula state park, located adjacent to the property; the Discovery trail (35+ mile bike route); and many hikes in the Olympic National Park and Buckhorn Wilderness.
Port Townsend is 25 minutes away, with weekend events all through the summer and fall.
The Sequim area has a low amount of rainfall, located in a rain-shadow, with more sun than other places in the region, making this a great place for outdoor recreation.

What makes this property unique
I remember stepping onto the huge porch when I first visited the property, experiencing the silence and a deep feeling of peace; viewing the garden, Strait of Juan de Fuca, and mountains and islands beyond. It is always a wonderful experience, full of so much to see and explore.
The property is adjacent to over 2000 acres of undeveloped land, full of trails and mature trees. As well there are no neighbors to two other sides.
Within a month, I became the owner and with every visit since then, that sense of calm and space has grown. It is always so wonderful to be on the front east-facing porch, or in the backyard paying attention to the birds' songs.
