About this property
Historic 1883 Carriage House Retreat near downtown
Stay inside a piece of Lynchburg history.
Step into this lovingly restored 1883 carriage house—a one-of-a-kind two-story retreat where authentic Lynchburg character meets modern comfort. Originally a carriage house & plumber's workshop, this 400-square-foot hideaway has been thoughtfully restored with local antique materials and details that tell the story of the people who lived on this little plot of land for the past ~140 years.
Have a soak in the clawfoot tub & wash your cares away under the oversized rain shower, and unwind over a cup of mint tea by the spacious grassy yard. The tiny kitchenette features stainless appliances, an original cast iron sink and countertop made from the original owner's plumbing workbench. Historic star bricks, restored stained-glass windows, hand-crafted queen & daybeds made from furniture-grade cherry add one-of-a-kind character (& simple comfort) you won't find in a typical vacation rental.
The Carriage House's historic roots are embraced by her new modern life throughout, with fast WiFi, a small washer/dryer, built-in USB and USB-C outlets, charging cables, and a locally made MagSafe Apple charger crafted from recycled skateboards integrated to make your stay interested & easy. (Note, there is intentionally no TV to create a simple, reflective in which to (mostly) unplug, relax & recharge.
The location is hard to beat - central to everything Lynchburg. You're minutes from Main St, the Blackwater Creek Trail, restaurants, universities, hospitals, and some of the area's best outdoor destinations. Off-street parking makes coming and going easy, whether you're just passing through, here for a weekend getaway or university visit, a hospital appointment, or an outdoor Central Virginia adventure.

We enjoyed our stay and would stay again. Everything was clean and Brad was great at communicating. If you're considering staying with a child just know our 4 year old loved the place.

So glad you all enjoyed the space Lindsay! Thanks for taking the time to share your experience & for being part of the Carriage House’s revival!
Very clean, very cozy, historic house located in a quiet neighborhood. The bathroom is a good size, the queen bed upstairs is comfortable. Overall, a very lovely stay.

Thanks for your kind review & thank you for being part of the Carriage House’s revival!
Nice escape from the hustle and bustle of life and technology, host was accommodating and prompt, instructions were clear. Bed was very comfortable, nice fresh linens and towels, shower was amazing with hot water and great pressure. We enjoyed making fresh coffee with the French press and looking at all the antique items, brought back so many memories of my grandparents home!

Thank you so much - For your stay and for sharing about the experience. We love how objects in space can take us back to our lives with each other, the memories that we have about the way things are the way things were. And at the same time, living into the present moment as we shape the future together. Thanks again for being part of the Carriage house revival. - b
While it was almost like taking a trip through time and the host were nothing short of outstanding, managing the stairs to second floor was a bit sketchy. The neighborhood was a bit on the noisy side and the neighbors smoking marijuana made sitting outside nonnegotiable. It’s conveniently located near down town and a short drive to Liberty University.

Thanks for taking time to share a bit about your stay, Paul. A “trip through time” is a great way to describe what the experience of restoring the space was like - so many relics, remnants, & real stories and real people & things that are “from here” - from the birth of the Carriage House (c1883) across the long arc of time up to now. It’s really an experiencing of history, staying (t)here. Lynchburg during Liberty graduation weekend can get lively compared to other weekends. Most guests find the space secluded - if almost like being in the country while in the heart of downtown given the expansive front yard, the rabbit family, the birds, over-sized grassy front yard and the buffer afforded by the neighboring community health center. I hope that the special, personalized touches made y’all feel as special as your weekend deserved to be. Thank you for taking such good care of the space while you were (t)here - and thank you for being part of the Carriage House’s revival. 🫶🏾
v. gratefully,
b
Staying at the Carriage House in Lynchburg was a wonderful experience! It is a very comfortable and functional space while still being historical and unique. Comfort/functional and historical don't always mesh well. In this situation it does beautifully. The location is in a nice neighborhood that has easy access to all areas in Lynchburg. Everything was spotless and the attention to detail is over the top anticipating guests needs. In addition, Brad took his personal time to go above and beyond making sure we knew where all the special places are to visit in the area. We will be staying again at the Carriage House in the future. It's at the top of our list! Our best Vrbo stay ever!!!!!!
What an amazing weekend we had here! Everything was exactly as described in the listing, no hidden surprises. We love older structures, the use of reclaimed materials and attention to historical significance so this property hit it out of the park! If we are ever in the area again, we will definitely book again!! Thanks so much for the Lynchburg hospitality from a hometown guy :)

Thanks for your kind review. Was such a pleasure hosting y’all!! Hole to see u again! 🌱🫶🏡
Thanks to Brad this was a mother daughter trip (w/our small doggo) that will be a forever memory. The carriage house is a magical place. It's like entering Narnia but better because it's real. The renovation of this historical property has been done with such great attention to detail. All throughout our visit we both marveled at the unique and special touches. The night we arrived the check-in was really like texting with family and then it was a quick two minute drive to Uno Mas for some of the best Mexican food ever. We also enjoyed playing corn hole set up next to the alfresco dining. After dinner we took a 10 minute drive to Kline's for a fresh strawberry frozen custard. It was well worth the drive. We enjoyed our breakfast delivered from Bacon Street Bagels on the outside patio of our magical cottage. Btw, if you want to get unplugged choose the carriage house. On our way out we stopped for a short walk through Riverside park to enjoy the picturesque overlook before grabbing a fantastic lunch at Waterdog. This quick overnight trip felt like so much more of a long respite!! Thanks again Brad. See you again soon :-)

The Carriage House was a great find. A unique destination, restored thoughtfully. Brad is a great host and shared his family ties to this area and how he went about restoring this charming cottage with unique old world materials from around Lynchburg. There were interesting artifacts throughout repurposed in clever ways.

The Carriage House Revival is AMAZING!! It’s a fully restored carriage house. If you like rustic, vintage, antique, rugged, historic themed accommodations… THIS IS IT!! Brad communicated beautifully, the directions for parking and entry were perfect. Everything about our stay was ideal. Anytime we go back to Lynchburg. We plan on staying here. I highly recommend it.

Thanks for your kindness, Jim. To be given such a nice review is great, but for it to be given by a teacher of the craft of carpentry is such an honor. Thank you guys for giving the Revival a chance - can't wait to have you back!
What an interesting place. Each nook and cranny has some interesting piece of history on it that was recycled from an old house/barn/door. Great amenities to include a washer dryer, coffee, big fridge, and chargers. A great place to chill for a quiet evening after Lynchburg events. Super clean with brand new bedding and towels. I would definitely stay again.

Locally born, globally grown. Having grown up, gone away, and returned to raised my 2 boys, I love sharing what's special about this little Carriage House & our lovely little City of Seven Hills!
Why they chose this property
Like almost all the recycled local materials used in the restoration, I’m from here. My grandfather started a car business in 1932 just across the street in the heart of the great depression - as the other three car dealerships we’re going out of business. My first job was mowing the grass & picking up trash adjacent to the property. Upon moving home from Singapore, I was called to restore of this beautiful old abandoned Carriage House & love having the chance to offer visitors a chance to experience the history that I accidentally came to love too!
What makes this property unique
The restoration is almost exclusively done using locally, reclaimed, recycled building materials from Lynchburg‘s cherished old homes, including the main house on this property, which partially burned in 2015 & was dismantle by hand. Old beams, old bricks, old granite street curbs, old wood, an old claw foot tub, the plumbing workbench that was originally here - literally everything in here is one-of-a-kind & rich with story.
