We loved our stay at Oakbank. It was spacious, immaculately clean and centrally located for the local services. We ate out in Edzell 3 times and thought the food was excellent. Definitely want to go back and still got lots of walks to do!

Beautiful house in an equally beautiful location.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house is beautiful, airy and spacious. It was very homely and the owners have thought of everything necessary for a relaxing stay. The beds were comfortable, everything was very clean. I couldn't recommend the house enough.

stunning apartment in great location
We stayed for 3 nights in September, 4 adults and two children. Without doubt one of the nicest accomodations any of us have ever rented. The presentation was immaculate, modern and fresh however retaining some original features. The dining room and kitchen are huge and we spent a lot of time in this room as it was so comfortable. Garden to the rear is small but the children enjoyed a few games. If you are planning to travel in Eastern/Northern Scotland then this would make an ideal location. Many sites of interest within 50 miles and the village itself is very friendly and interesting. The welcome pack with groceries was an added bonus we didn't expect and it was a lovely welcome to the home. Thoroughly recommend this flat and the owners were very helpful prior to arrival with directions etc

Our aim is to provide "Comfort in the Glens", it is fantastic to hear from our guests that we are on the right track!
However there is always room for improvement and we love to hear where we can add value and comfort for our guests. Unfortunately we cannot increase the size of the garden but there is a fantastic play park just up the road.
About the host
Hosted by Diana Dalrymple
Gregor (Scottish) and I (Dutch) met in Scotland and I fell in love with the man and his country. We have lived abroad most of our married life in both The Netherlands and Luxembourg where we have been since 1994. However our hearts have always firmly stayed in Bonny Scotland, and we bought our retirement home in Edzell in 2003, so we are all prepared for our return when we give up our expat lives. We are both very keen golfers, and we love to travel the world in pursuit of great courses, but on a great day you just can't beat the stunning scenery and wonderfully welcoming people in Scotland!
Why they chose this property
Edzell is unique in many ways as it is just a small village with 700 inhabitants but it has every amenity that you can possibly think off. You can be self sufficient on foot and not be bored. That is why we choose it as our retirement location and why we love to come home as often as we possibly can. It has everything from the scenery, to golf courses, to rivers to fish in, to hills to roam, walk, climb and hunt in, to lots of historic sites to visit, to beaches to comb and the city is less than an hour away. As we love going here so much, we thought that perhaps other visitors would feel the same. However we did want to make sure that our guests would really feel at home and would not miss any home comforts. It was with this in mind that we renovated an 100 year old apartment in the middle of the village high street. It was originally build and owned by a 'painter/decorator' who had his shop downstairs and he leased out the two other little shops. The three shops are still downstairs, now a hairdresser, chemist and, highly acclaimed by our visitors, small restaurant.
What makes this property unique
Most people don't even know that our apartment is upstairs when they walk along the village high street. It is lovely to sit in the window and watch village life go by without people even realising! You can park in front of the front door and walk to all the amenities in the village. Get your bread in the morning, have a game of golf, buy a steak for lunch, post that postcard to family, get your haircut, go to the swing park, walk along the river and have a drink and a lovely meal at a hotel. How relaxed is that? For all the more energetic pursuits you just climb in your car and explore all the wonderful things the North East of Scotland has to offer.....We love being in Edzell and we are confident that you will also have a great time and will 'haste ye back'!
