About this property

Adorable Cottage In The Heart Of The Old Beach Area, Close To The Boardwalk.

Family Beach Cottage with perennial flower garden, screened porch and small open deck with plenty of seating. Four blocks from ocean, in the middle of the resort boardwalk area, close to restaurants. Within easy walking distance of the 24th St stage, the Neptune statue, the new Dome concert venue and wave pool. It is about 8 walking blocks from the Convention Center and Athletic Center. In the summer, free entertainment along Atlantic Ave in the evenings provided by Beach Events. Two bedrooms, lovely décor. South bedroom holds a beautiful cast-iron canopy QUEEN bed custom-made for the Pink House by Levin's Brass Beds of Virginia. North room holds FULL-size bed with a SINGLE-size roll-away underneath, new mattresses and pillows. Total, the cottage should be able to sleep a family of 5 comfortably, depending on the size and needs of the individuals. Linens are provided and beds made for you for your arrival so you don't have to do anything. *Be aware that full-size bed may not fit larger guests comfortably. The house might only then fit 3. We count on your experience to know your own needs. Main room has a dresser and the second room has shelf, small closet with portable racks for hanging wet clothes and towels. Appliance-equipped kitchen for cooking complete meals (no ice-maker or dish-washer), microwave, crock pot, and 2 types of coffee maker, handy for those traveling with special diet restrictions or busy families. Small backyard, no fence. Dining/living areas, tv, high-speed internet, Netflix and cable, central air, fireplace for off-season. Games, books, and drawing items for use. Grocery store and coin laundry just 1/2 mile away towards the north. Day street parking in front of the house (we provide Guest Pass for nearby overnight public garage parking. Fee only if you lose the pass. Garage is inbetween cottage and the beach within 1/4 mile. The city will not give guest passes to STRs any longer, starting in 2025) Flowers almost all year 'round, changes by the Owner's whim or Mother Nature's mood swings. Cleaning costs have already been included (some as part of daily fee, some as one time prep). Cozy 100% cotton linens provided with one fee per stay, beds will be made for arrival, one bath and one beach towel per guest (cost remains constant year-round). Kitchen linens provided. Reasonable amount of toilet paper and soap as well (We do not guarantee supply for stay. It's been surprising variety in demand). This cottage is like having an aunt with a beach house. Please enjoy yourselves and say hello to the neighbors. It's the Virginia thing to do!
*CLEANING: Since the Covid-19 shut-down, we have been cleaning and painting at the cottage. Our housekeeper has asthma so we do not make a habit of using harsh chemicals in the house unless absolutely needed. In addition to our normal system of using mild cleansers, we are finishing all guest preparation by wiping down 'touchy' surfaces like handles and light switches with alcohol disinfectant as we walk out the door and lock it behind us. Sheets, towels, and pillowcases will be washed. Blankets and coverlets will be run through a hot dryer, just for sanitation (they don't typically need to be washed after every use). We have removed most of the rugs in the house to make it easier to clean. Chairs were switched out to hard surfaces that are easier to wipe down. Be aware that there is no dishwasher in the house. If you feel uncomfortable using the supplied housewares, please bring paper plates, etc.
We are doing our best to provide you with a safe and comfortable environment during your stay. Please keep us in mind as well, and as much as we would like to host you, please do not come unless you are symptom free. Selma the house-keeper cares for the elderly in her other job. It is very important she stays healthy. We are grateful for your co-operation.

Very cute cottage with great location. Close to grocery store, the boardwalk, restaurants, and the ocean, but not too close. Host shared great information and it was a welcoming place to stay.

The location is terrific and the house is delightful. Denise has thought of everything a visitor could need, and then some. She communicated important information ahead of time and was very responsive from booking through our stay. If we head to Virginia Beach again, we will absolutely plan to stay at the little pink house.

Wonderful stay!

We had an absolutely amazing time at the Pink House--the house itself was awesome and it was in a great location--close to the beach and close to restaurants/shops/etc. Not to mention, the flowers and garden were spectacular!

Nice place

Enjoyed our stay. A few blocks from the beach. We had only arrived 20 minutes before someone walking down the sidewalk took a half drunk bottle of water off the front step.

Adorable cottage

This is our second time staying at the Pink House. It is very clean and comfortable. The beds are soft and the host provides beautiful fresh flowers and snacks! It’s walking distance to the beach and to local restaurants. Plus, if you enjoy beautiful gardens you’re in for a treat! The yard is small but packed with a variety of gorgeous plants- a little oasis!

Walkable and wonderful

This property is in a perfect location. The beach/boardwalk was a very easy walk, and there were plenty of shops and restaurants within walking distance. Everything else we wanted to try was a short drive. The house was very clean and we had everything we needed. The property has a lot of personality and history, which made staying here extra fun.

Beautiful beach cottage with charm around every corner

My little family absolutely loved staying here. The cottage was just beyond charming. I am super picky about beds and it was one of the most comfortable beds ever. Our little one loved exploring the cottage and all the wonderful artistic touches everywhere. Thank you so much for all the attention to detail, thoughtfulness, and care you put into our vacation stay <3

Better than 5 stars!

This property is perfect for enjoying beach amenities but without beach chaos. Location is peaceful and relaxing. Attention to detail by the host is over the top--fresh flowers from the garden, a snack basket for people and pets, and anything you might need to feel at home and comfortable. If more stars were available, this place would have earned them.

Wonderful stay at the Pink House!

My family loved our stay here. Denise was very responsive if you need anything. She had a book with a detailed history of the cottage which I loved. The flowers were beautiful. The cottage was so cute and cozy, plenty big enough for my family of 4. It was very clean and the personal touches were awesome! The Old Beach area was quiet but yet a short walk to the beach and boardwalk if you want to be busy. If I come back to this area I would definitely stay here again.

Lovely cottage

This was a lovely cottage! The photos don’t do it justice. It was well appointed with a book about the area that was helpful in finding restaurants and things to do. Primary bed was super comfortable. Plenty of kitchen equipment to cook a meal. The owner left a basket of snacks which was appreciated. You need to stay here!

Cute Cottage Welcome

We had a great stay at VA Beach! The host is very proactive, thoughtful and her cottage is very tastefully decorated. She is also very responsive with replies. The kitchen and bathroom is well stocked with supplies. The cottage is small but very cute! Amazing garden and very convenient location are bonus items. A couple of minor things need some work - shower head in the bathroom needs to be changed and an ice-maker would be convenient for guests for a stay at the beach...

Wonderful Pink Beach House

My family (and dogs) had a wonderful stay at the pink beach house. While our trip was a short one, to enjoy the Oceana NAS airshow, this beach house had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. The property is in a safe location (where I felt safe to walk my dogs around the streets alone) and in close distance to conveniences such as the beach (maybe 4 blocks), grocery shopping (2 min drive), Oceana NAS (15 min drive), Norfolk Tides game (20 min drive), and the highway (5 minute drive). The property was as described and loaded with creature comforts to make your stay that much more comfortable. The property owner was very responsive and was kind enough to leave us a treat basket for us and our dogs that did not disappoint! My family would definitely recommend this property for families and their dogs!

Charming Old Virginia Beach Area cottage. Host was excellent with communications, the location is a short walk to the beach and many good local bars and restaurants. We were there on a very stormy weekend - but still enjoyed our time in this quaint vintage cottage! You do need to park your car in a garage close by at night, but there is a parking pass provided. Owner has lots of great suggestions for local spots!

I have had issues with the host after checking out. She complained about our dogs, there were a couple accidents but not what she is claiming. I had to purchase insurance and pay a deposit, the claims she said were not put on insurance but taken from my deposit. While trying to communicate with her, she was rude and not helpful. I was double charged for my stay, and she claimed she could not access VRBO, a day later she then told me I had to contact VRBO myself. Also, parking is a disgrace and the walk to the beach is farther than led to believe.

About the host

Host profile image
I am a cartoonist and obsessive gardener, grew up in Virginia Beach after my Navy family settled here. I still live in the area, just a few miles away. Tom, my husband and transplanted Buck-eye from Ohio, was a newspaper reporter for over 30 years, for the local transit company as a 'talking head', now retired as well he can be. We now balance our VaBch life with a Richmond life so that we are able to help with our grandbaby's childcare. You can ask me about any flower in the garden and I can tell you more than you want to hear. My husband and I both like to cook. My husband's constant goal is to get beyond all the many projects I keep coming up with. My mother was French, from the South of France, but I have become terribly rusty with the language. We lived in this cottage, were married in the backyard, taught our daughter to walk on the front path. Please enjoy it and make it part of your family's story too.

Why they chose this property

The Pink House is very special to our family. I bought it as a young woman when it had seen better days. The area is quirky, artsy, and alive. Originally, I believe the now 75 year old house was a summer home for a Norfolk family, only used occasionally. I loved how close it was to everything and all the activity surrounding it. The paneling, bathroom tile and fireplace are original late 1940-early 50s. With my father's help, I fixed it up and added the back closet area, redid the kitchen, and over time, made it into a cute, though small, comfortable cottage. My husband-to-be moved into the white apartments next door. We became friends and eventually married at the cottage with all our friends attending a backyard ceremony. After our first child was born, the tiny space got to be a bit difficult, so we moved further away, keeping the Pink House as a rental to help pay for it. We love to hike in the State Park and often ride bikes on the boardwalk or go listen to a concert. I love the Neptune Festival in September and buying ice cream during evening strolls. In the Spring of 2016, I decided I wanted to keep the house for family and friends to visit, so we added air conditioning and furnished the house as we would like to live, to be enjoyed by others who might see the same potential in this remnant from earlier days. We are not interested in renting it all the time, but I am proud of this house and would like to share the joy it has given me with other travelers.

What makes this property unique

No question, everyone's favorite part of this house is the front porch. Originally, without air conditioning, it was too hot to stay inside so I had a little table for eating and a sitting area for visiting. Every morning I would get my coffee and putter in the garden and in the evening I would go ride my bike or rollerblade on the boardwalk. I love the open kitchen and the huge sunlit windows. I am still acquainted with the neighbors and am often there to work on the garden. Within walking distance there's the beach, concerts, food, the Convention Center, lots of restaurants and activities. I've had complete strangers stop to admire the house and take photos of the garden. There's always something going on, always activity. I love my Little Pink House!
