The house is at a great location. Our only issue was the air conditioning upstairs didn’t get below 74 degrees at night and up in the high seventies during the day

Great House!

Loved our stay at Dogwood Bay! Stayed with a work group of friends to plan a summer camp for a nonprofit and the house was perfect. Had everything we needed, especially for cooking. It was clean, spacious and comfortable, and we even got to relax on the lake. Yard was beautiful!! Would definitely stay here again.

We really enjoyed our stay overall. The home has a charming rustic feel, and the beds were very comfortable, which made for a relaxing visit. The kitchen was well-stocked and made cooking easy, and the view of the lake was absolutely beautiful, definitely a highlight of the property. The only area that needs improvement is the issue with spiders and spiderwebs. We encountered webs throughout the exterior of the home, inside in some areas, and covering the path to the dock—we had to clear them ourselves to access it. There were also quite a few spiders in the garage, and we ended up purchasing spray so we could comfortably use the paddle boards, life jackets, and other items. We completely understand that this is a lake house and bugs are part of the environment; however, it seemed like there wasn’t regular upkeep to help manage the issue. A more consistent pest control routine (such as monthly extermination) would make a big difference for future guests. That said, we had a great time and would still recommend the property, especially for the views and comfort.

Very nice location, and layout of the house. The house was very well constructed, the yard was large, and the lake view was great. Plenty of water toys and a very nice pier. We were disappointed in the level of cooling from the air conditioning system. Although it was very hot outside during our stay, it was not acceptable that the temperature inside the house was in the low 80s during the day, and only got down into the mid 70s during the night. Additionally, when we arrived the house smelled very musty, there were spider webs, all around the exterior of the house, and throughout the attached garage. There were cobwebs inside the house. If there had been a regular vacuum (with a hose attachment) available, instead of a battery operated swiffer vacuum, we could have cleaned the areas ourselves. It not appear that anyone had vacuumed under some of the furniture. Finally, this house was advertised as having 3 queen beds. Only one of those beds was a true queen, and one was significantly smaller. Although not the owners' fault, it appeared that someone's dog had been using the beach area and the back yard as restroom.

This property has incredible bones and a truly special setting — the dock is fantastic and the lake access made for memorable moments. The charm of the vintage architecture and those beautiful brass door knobs give it real character. That said, the home needs some attention before it lives up to its potential. We noticed musty odors throughout, including in the kitchen cabinets and linens, which made us wonder about moisture issues. The bath towels were in the dryer upon arrival and smelled as though they needed another wash. Bedding and pillows had a stale smell suggesting they hadn't been freshened recently. Bathroom lighting was quite dim, and several door knobs either didn't latch properly or stuck when locked. The deck had some soft spots that felt unsafe underfoot, and the driveway layout made it difficult to navigate with multiple vehicles or a trailer. We'd also suggest adding basic kitchen appliances like a toaster for future guests. The location is genuinely lovely and we could see this being a standout rental with some TLC and a deep refresh of the linens and soft goods. We hope the host invests in the upkeep this place deserves. We’ve rented through VRBO in Lake Norman quite a few times and have gotten a brand new place for the money we spent on this weekend.

GIRLS WEEKEND

We had such a wonderful weekend. The house was clean and well supplied with everything from linens to kitchen gadgets and even paddleboards. The house is located in a wonderful spot on Lake Norman. We enjoyed the sunny lawn, watching boats on Memorial Day, and paddleboarding. The boaters were so respectful, no noisy parties. We felt safe walking around the neighborhood and had a special treat on our final morning: a baby fawn was born right outside the back porch. A perfect ending to a perfect weekend. We loved our stay so much we want to come back and bring our spouses.

On arrival, house was so totally dark, no motion lights, no outdoor lights, no number on mailbox or house that was visible. It was an extremely difficult driveway to manage with no lights. When we finally got down the driveway we used cell phone flashlights to find the door. The house was clean but exceptionally overdecorated with stuff. There was no toaster so we bought one, no can opener, so we bought one. Rooms very spacious but lighting was extremely low throughout. The best things about the property was the dock and the tvs. Beds were acceptable. Windows needed a good washing. Bathroom door upstairs was hard to get open once you were inside. Upstairs tub drain not working. We had to hold the plunger up for water to drain after bath/shower. Many of these things seem small but once you put them all together, it was pretty annoying and not a place we would return to. Our family does not expect perfection but this was a bit much. The house has potential but needs some serious TLC at this point.
