Wonderful spot for family vacation, retreat, or exploring the Seacoast!
Beautiful and private waterfront home on a tidal creek on Gerrish Island in Kittery Point, ME. Our back deck overlooks a sloping yard to the creek. We are minutes away from many beaches, wonderful restaurants, shopping, ropes course and lobster!
This is a beautiful and cozy cape house overlooking a sloping lawn to a tidal creek. Gorgeous every season, including autumn leaf peeping time! This is my home part time, and has been my family home, so it is set up with special thought for guests, and also has personal items in it. Please treat the space with care.
The master bedroom and bathroom and laundry are on the first floor. The kitchen has new appliances. It is fully stocked with cooking ware, table ware, cloth napkin and towels. You will need to bring your own paper products and cleaning supplies. The kitchen opens to the dining room, which seats six. The dining room is casual, with older furniture. From the dining room, which has large sliding glass doors to the back deck (two levels).
The living room is comfortable and casual, as well. There is a new futon which folds out into a double bed. There is a relatively small flat screen TV in the living room. It is a great space for family and friends to gather.
The second floor looks down on the dining room. One of the rooms is open in this space, with day bed and trundle, as well as book shelves stocked with children's books and novels. The other two rooms each have a single bed, one with a TV with built in DVD and VCR (no cable upstairs). This is a cape house, so the ceilings are slanted, but there is plenty of room for standing and storage. Getting around
You will probably want a car to get into town, unless you are avid cyclists. However, two local beaches are in short biking distance, and there is tidal creek access in our back yard. Fort Foster and Chauncey Creek Lobster Pier are less than a mile away, so walking and biking are a wonderful option. See further detailed information about beaches, parks, and other activities below:
BEACHES and PARKS
Fort Foster- This is a wonderful park for children, adults, families, individuals. There are beaches, paths, playgrounds, picnic areas, forts to climb, a long pier, and beautiful views. The gate to the fort is 0.85 miles away. Take a left out our driveway, a right onto Pocahontas, and drive straight. The gate usually opens at 10:00 am, sometimes earlier in the summer and on weekends. Before this, you can usually park outside the gate and walk in to the beaches. The walk is about 1/3 a mile. Or you can drive in during park hours. The cost is $10 per car, or $5 per person ($1 per child) walking or biking (these rates may not be accurate, but close).
Sea Point Beach and Crescent Beach - 1.7 miles to the parking lot, although non-residents park 0.1 - 0.2 closer (parking areas are marked, or park on the side of the road before that). These are two adjacent beaches which are generally quiet, with mild surf, very soft sand, and a grassy and rocky walking area at the point where the two beaches meet. A great bike ride (a couple of gradual and persistent hills). No costs for this beach, no public facilities.
York Beach - Long Sands and Short Sands - Great spot for families. Large beaches, many people, more surf, life guards, food, souvenir shops, restaurants. Nubble Light House is in between the two beaches and worth the trip. Right near the light house is Dunne’s Ice Cream (used to be the famous Brown’s Ice Cream). Short Sands is just beyond Long Sands, and also has a playground, basketball nets, more parking, home made salt water taffy made before your very eyes, and the Arcade and Bowling Alley.
Fort McLary - another park at the site of a former WWI military fort. This Park, about two miles on the left if you head back toward Kittery Circle on 103, is smaller. There are a couple of areas to climb and beautiful views, but no easy beach access.
Odiorne State Park and Seacoast Science Center in Rye, NH (just south of Portsmouth on rte 1A) are worth a visit, especially if you have interested children.
EXPLORE PORTSMOUTH - Great restaurants and shopping, but also a wide selection of entertainment, including plays, live music, theater and music in the Prescott Park. Look into (URL HIDDEN) for a lot more information.
KITTERY OUTLETS - If you want to shop, take a left out of our driveway, a left onto Pocahontas, a left over the bridge, a left onto Chauncey Creek Rd, a left onto 103, and then take a right onto Haley Rd, just across from the gas station (and right before the fire station). Stay on that windy road for about 3 miles until you reach a light, which is route one. Most of the shopping is to your right.

Great Place to Relax and Get Away From It All
As soon as we pulled into the driveway we loved it. The home has plenty of room for a family of 4 adults and 2 teenagers. My wife and I loved the early morning coffee on the deck as we listened to the birds chirping and the wild turkeys scratching around in the woods. Being able to use the bicycles made for a lot of fun riding down the street to Fort Foster to catch the sunsets and a couple of sunrises. My family is always on the go, so we would pack up a lunch and take off to a beach for the day. But it was so nice to come back to a home where we could shower, enjoy dinner, watch a movie and head to bed to start it all up again the next day. Sarah, the owner was easy to work with and very quick to respond to any questions we shot her way. The king sized bed was an added bonus and we got to be the first to break in the new grill with steak and chicken from Carl's Meat Market.

Great Location
We stayed here the week of 4th of July. The house was easy to find and in a great, quiet neighborhood. It's right down the road from Fort Foster which is a beach that allows dogs. We walked the road every night with our dogs leashed as well. The house is spacious enough and kitchen is fully stocked. Sarah even had flowers waiting on the table and windowsills. We had a problem with the toilet the first night but she had it fixed within the day.She was very responsive and helpful every time we contacted her. Wifi was great, tv with basic cable in living room, clean towels, beach supplies, bikes, nice lounging area on deck, as well as table and chairs on upper deck. Pack your big spray though. Mosquitos were prevalent. Glad we spent a week there. Great memories!

Very Enjoyable
A nice quiet place for a relaxing vacation. The house is great with its rustic charm and a wonderful deck for reading, eating, and for just enjoying nature. The owner is very helpful and communicates well. Only a 15 minute drive to downtown Portsmouth NH. This turned out to be one of our favorite vacation spots.

Not a wonderful family friendly vacation spot as advertized!
We walked into this home where all the beds had not been cleaned and been slept in. Dirty towels were left on the beds and we cleaned it our selves because the owner said the cleaning person was 2 hours away . Our grandchildren were playing in the water and on the rocks, then later we went to use the the tennis courts. We were in the home quite at 4:45 pm and in the home for the night. We received a phone call that evening that the neighbors said we were to loud and we had to be quite other wise she would not be able to rent the house and the neighbors would not like her renting her home any longer. The next day we went to use the tennis courts again and the neighbors pad locked it.We even hated to call the owner but we did,She gave us a number that didn't work. This home is great if you want to go somewhere with your family where you can all stay in the home and read a book.It is not for families at all, only those who are a recluse.Beware if it sounds to good to be true it usually is!

I'm very sorry this guest has such negative things to say. I did have a mix up with my. cleaning service, which had never happened before, and offered significant compensation, and offered to come clean myself.
In regards to his other concerns, some significant house rules were reported broken, by my neighbors. I simply asked him to respect the house rules and the neighbors. My guests, as a rule, have a wonderful time at our home with their families, per their reviews on this and another site.

About the host
Hosted by Sarah Sullivan
I have always loved the ocean, but appreciate privacy. Our home is the perfect spot, with waterfront access and view. The property is >1.25 acres, bordered by trees, but still sunny. The back deck is quite private and quiet. However, there is a lot of activity nearby, including many beaches within biking or driving distance, restaurants and bars, shopping and parks, local markets and bakeries.
Why they chose this property
This has been my family home since my parents chose the land and designed the house in the 1980's. I fell in love with it from the start, and the area is renewing for me. The property is beautiful, well maintained, with modern energy efficient appliances, solar powered electricity and heated water. The atmosphere is cozy and comfortable, not pretentious, but with plenty of amenities. It is not high-tech, as I prefer to cook, walk, read, and write, but there is excellent wifi connection, basic cable, and an additional TV upstairs (not connected to cable) with DVD and VCR player intact.
What makes this property unique
Great opportunity for active social getaway with friends and family. Also can be a wonderful spot to use for reflection and retreat.
The home is kept clean, and supplied with linens and towels. Kitchen is well stocked for most types of cooking you would want to engage in, including full meals, baking, and lobster boiling.
Quiet but plenty of room for fun. However, no loud parties, please. This is a friendly neighborhood, family oriented with young children nearby. The neighborhood atmosphere is part of the house's charm.
