About this property
Birch Haven | Spectacular Lakefront Log Cabin
Find your haven at Birch Haven on Lake Superior! This is an incredible four-bedroom cabin with tons of common areas for your whole crew, a vaulted cathedral ceiling, a dream kitchen, and a loft, not to mention some fantastic outdoor hangout spaces. See Lake Superior up close—we’ve got stairs down to the water—and get the eagle’s eye view from the loft. Either way, you won’t be able to take your eyes off the water, and with a whole wall of picture windows, you won't ever have to!
Your host runs Bark Point Ventures, a vacation rental management & concierge company that specializes in properties on Lake Superior's South Shore. She lives nearby and is available 24/7 to assist her guests. Our passion is ensuring guests experience the magic of what we feel is one of the most amazing places in the world.
The South Shore is truly a place to get away from it all, but not so far from modern conveniences that getting food and gas feels like a chore. The guest book contains tips on all the incredible outdoor activities around here, as well as local arts, plus places to get groceries, dine out, grab a drink, etc. This is truly a year-round destination, whether you enjoy outdoor adventure, local cuisine, art, or simply the company of friends & family in one of the most beautiful locations in the northern U.S.
Birch Haven is just five minutes from all the fun in Cornucopia: restaurants, shops, and one of the prettiest beaches anywhere on the lake. It's about 25 minutes from Bayfield and about 40 minutes from Ashland, where you['ll find a good selection of groceries and other amenities. Duluth-Superior is a little over an hour away.
Step in the front door of Birch Haven and you’ll be blown away: you're looking at a whole wall of windows facing Siskiwit Bay on Lake Superior. Behind you are log posts holding up a sleeping loft--and above it all, a soaring cathedral ceiling. The sitting area has a sofa and chairs and a smart TV in the corner: it’s there when you want to watch and out of the way when you want time away from screens. If you’re here in cold weather, you’ll love lighting a fire in the wood fireplace and for instant vibes, just put an album on the turntable (we’ve got a bunch to choose from). And if it's hot outside fear not: we've got air conditioning at the touch of a button!
The kitchen is gorgeous, with all-new appliances and beautiful wood cabinets. If you’re in the mood to whip up a feast we’ve got you covered with everything from an icemaker to a slow cooker. You'll love all the extra prep space on the kitchen island. Behind the kitchen you’ll find another treat: a washer and dryer with a second sink for all your cleanup needs and when it’s time to dine , you can seat six at the table, plus bar seating for four at the island (and don’t worry, with a whole wall of windows, you can keep watching the water while you eat).
At the back of the first floor, under the loft, you’ll find the primary bedroom: with a king bed on a rustic log frame, it’s your cozy den when it’s time to hibernate. The primary bathroom serves the first floor, but it also acts as an en suite bath, with a separate door to the main bedroom. It’s a bright space with crisp white tile, new fixtures, and glass shower doors.
Upstairs in the loft, you’ll find a cozy common area: there’s a reading nook with an inviting chaise lounge, and, if you need to get some work done while you’re here, there’s an office space too, plus a small balcony that looks over the trees. The view from up here, through the second-story picture windows and down to the water, might be the most spectacular of all, though the view down to the first floor is pretty cool on its own.
The upstairs bed is also a king. There’s a smart TV for binge-watching in bed, and a ceiling fan for extra comfort. This bedroom also has a small balcony (with its own view of the water) and an en suite bath: it’s a bright, cozy space with wood paneling and clean fixtures.
Head down the stairs to the basement, and you’ll find even more common areas: a den with a sofa sectional and a table and chairs, a big TV, and a stash of board games. If you’ve got a fitness routine to keep up, fear not: there’s also a rowing machine with an interactive touch screen. The basement area is the only area that we ask remains off limits to your canine companions, in order to protect the more delicate furnishings down there. W've provided a movable "baby gate" you can put up at the bottom of the stairs to support this cause.
There are two bedrooms downstairs, and both have queen beds. One also has a smart TV and a ceiling fan. Since both of these bedrooms are removed from the main levels of the cabin, they're great spots for light sleepers, or for anyone who’s after some serious shuteye.
The fun continues outside the cabin too. There’s a gorgeous deck with a tall and chairs plus a pair of chaise lounges and a gas firepit--and, not surprisingly, a great view of the water. If you head down the stairs off the deck you’ll be on a lovely lawn: it’s perfect for games and any other outdoor fun you can think of (we've got a corn hole set to get you started). We've also got a newly-built set of stairs down toward the water and a fire pit o the grass for your outdoor enjoyment, and if it’s summer and it’s a little buggy, don't worry—there’s a nice screen porch off the kitchen with its own view of the lake.
Due to the lack of public transportation and the distance between towns/amenities, a car is pretty much essential. But, on the plus side, traffic is not a concept we have up here!
