Peaceful and Luxurious--Escape to “On a Clear Day...”

On a Clear Day… sits nestled within the Virgin Island National Park on the North Shore of St. John overlooking Francis Bay. At 170 feet in elevation, indeed it seems like some days you can see forever from this beautiful, secluded villa with to die for views of St. Thomas and the water. A westward orientation also yields spectacular sunsets from every room and deck. Yet this vacation home remains only a 2 minute drive or 10 minute walk from fantastic swimming, snorkeling, and sunning at Francis Bay Beach, 25 minutes from Cruz Bay, and 12 minutes from Coral Bay.

Villa Overview

Completed in 2012, On a Clear Day… was built as an eco-friendly vacation home for fun, families, flexibility, health, nature, and finally and most importantly, life renewal. Your stay should rest your soul, invigorate your body, and restore your spirit. From the privacy and tranquility afforded by the National Park’s location to the structure’s exercise room and 54 foot long pool lap lane for workouts to a completely flat first floor (including one bedroom) for guests with physical challenges, this villa offers something for everyone.

For those interested in learning more about Green Energy Conservation, On a Clear Day… is a 5 Star Tropical Green Building, as certified by St. John’s Island Green Living Association. The villa makes use of low solar gain, low-E glass throughout together with LED lighting and Energy Star appliances and TVs. Low flow WaterSense plumbing fixtures, dual flush toilets, individually controlled high SEER-rated ductless air-conditioning units, solar heated domestic hot water, and a solar reflective metal roof sitting atop a thermal reflective blanket and fiberboard insulation round out the design. The entire villa is powered by ground-mounted photovoltaic arrays situated on land just below the structure. The villa is also equipped with an emergency generator should there be an Island power outage. Continuing in the Green vein, On a Clear Day... utilizes organic-based fertilizer for its landscaping and the mildest forms of insecticide for pest control.

The Interior

The entire interior is enclosed in one structure. Four large bedrooms comprise the sleeping space, three at 308 square feet and the master at 480. Three contain king size beds, the fourth with two twins that can easily be brought together to create king sized sleeping. All bedrooms have ceiling fans, locking safes, secluded balconies, and private baths with dual sinks and tumbled marble showers. Each has an individually controlled air-conditioning unit along with a 40 inch LED TV with Dish Satellite programming, Roku capability, and a Blu-ray disc player.

The kitchen offers Brazilian granite countertops and environment-friendly bamboo cabinetry and is equipped with an ultra-quiet dishwasher, refrigerator/freezer with ice maker, convection oven/range with hood, microwave, and wine cooler. A second icemaker (stand-alone) and refrigerator/freezer are offered for increased capacity. A washer/dryer is available for guests along with a Weber outdoor gas grill. The kitchen has counter seating for 4 and abuts a dining room with seating for 8 to 10.

The Great Room is furnished in contemporary, eco-friendly bamboo/rattan and offers panoramic views of the pool, pool deck, and Francis Bay. A 60 inch LED TV, also with Dish programming, Roku capability, and Blu-ray disc player, is available for your viewing and music pleasure.

An air-conditioned exercise room provides a Bowflex home gym, Sole elliptical machine, and a Concept II rowing ergometer.
All water for the house, including drinking and showering, is filtered through a Sanitron triple filtration system utilizing filters for sediment, taste (charcoal), and microorganism eradication (ultraviolet). The UV system removes bacteria, viruses, parasites, and mold.

High speed Internet is provided by Love City Community Network (LCCN), a 501(c)(3), non-profit
initiative initially set up by volunteers in 2017 immediately following Hurricane Irma in order to
provide emergency communications for St. John. LCCN has been extremely dependable. Wi-Fi
transmits to every room. A voice-over-internet-protocol (VoIP) phone system is also available at
the villa. Regarding off-property cell phone usage, please consult with your personal cellular
carrier regarding its availability and quality in the USVI and particularly on St. John.

Outdoors

A wide pool deck supplies comfortable lounging with incomparable views of Francis Bay below and St. Thomas in the distance. Poolside offers various degrees of sun protection from out and out tanning to partial protection provided by trellises to complete coverage. A low chemical saltwater pool runs 3 foot 4 inches to 4 foot 6 inches in depth and contains a 54 foot long, 7 foot wide lap lane for exercise and an in-pool bench for relaxation. A screened-in porch off the dining room offers space for bug-free outside eating, socialization, and work and easily opens to the pool deck via sliders.

Reef Protection

USVI now mandates use of reef-sparing sunscreens. This means avoiding products with the three “O’s”—oxybenzone, octinoxate, and octocrylene. Not only do these chemicals and others stress and damage ocean ecosystems including coral, they may affect human health. Zinc oxide-based, plant/mineral derived, biodegradable, natural products are now available that fulfill the criteria for “reef-safe” and which you can bring to St. John or purchase on island.
