About the host
Hosted by Mary Hurd

We are from beautiful Missoula, MT, just a couple of hours from Glacier National Park. We love the outdoors, from ice fishing and hiking, to boating and camping, Our weekend warrior partnership spans over 20 years of exploration and adventure.
Together, we built a boutique style property management company in the long term residential sector. This has allowed us to spend more time traveling, while remaining connected remotely.
We purchased Sacred Waters in the winter of 2024 as a south eastern base we could eventually semi retire to. The home was built in 2019 and we underwent a substantial remodel to update the home to a more modern rustic feel that is complimented by the lush surroundings.
We knew this property was something special when we first crested the driveway and popped over the hill. We both said "Wow", it felt like we were entering the grounds of a private retreat. And so began our quest to put our touches on the property and share this special place with you. Welcome!

Why they chose this property
We searched high and low for a couple of months spanning 2 trips. As we explored the area we figured out a few things... We wanted more than just a home perched on a mountain top that was difficult to get to. We drove many a pot holed gravel mountain road and knew that was not for us. We wanted a special feature. We wanted privacy. We wanted paved roads!
As we toured the property and realized the potential it was time to walk down the path to the creek. As Tom and I sat around the firepit in the adirondack chairs, listening to the creek and exploring the paths that meander through the lower acreage, we were hooked. We knew this was our place. As our mini bernedoodle, Ted, ran about collecting sticks we could envision many years of good times to come at Sacred Waters.
We remain in awe of the lush surroundings a mature landscaping the property owners lovingly added over their 20 years here. Thousands of daffodils adorn the property in the spring, rose bushes, ferns, mountain laurel, bamboo, and other blooming delights that pop up with the arrival of spring.
Big Creek Road offers many hiking opportunities in the Blue Ridge Wildlife Management Area, from Long Creek Falls and the Southern Terminus of the Appalachian Trail or Benton McKaye Trail.
We are just 14 miles to downtown Ellijay and 28 miles to downtown Blue Ridge.

What makes this property unique
We have privacy and seclusion that is hard to come by. When you come to the mountains of North Georgia, you want to feel like you are in the country, away from the crowds, the noise, you want to be immersed in nature. You get that here and more.
The expanse of our lush grounds provides a sense of calm and wonder. The privacy of our property is unique, our property cannot be seen from the road. We only installed blinds on our living room windows after a guest requested it, and we never use them! You can literally walk au naturel from the bedroom into the hot tub and not have to worry about being seen. It is that private.
Walking down through our private forest to the creek is a treat in of itself. Forest bathing, or Shinrin-yoku (森林浴), is a Japanese practice that involves immersing yourself in the sights, sounds, and sensations of a forest to promote relaxation, reduce stress, and improve well-being. It’s not about exercise or hiking—it’s about mindful connection with nature.
Some vacation rentals boast proximity to attractions, at Sacred Waters, our property is the attraction. You can visit local attractions and explore the towns and trails, but in the end, you will come back to Sacred Waters to refresh, renew and reconnect—with nature, with yourself, and with the simple beauty of stillness.
