About the host
Hosted by Billie Best

Sisters Billie and Cheri have lived here for 26 years with their mom Mary until she graduated to heaven in 2018. We’ve used the cabin for friends and family visits for years. After 2018 we decided to become hosts for more than just friends and family. It has been fun meeting folks from all over and everyone has been very respectful of the cabin. In addition to the amenities mentioned there is a large lawn and a quiet road for dog walking. There is also a lovely front porch area to relax amongst the aspen and pine trees after a long day of hiking.
Why they chose this property
We had llamas and we wanted to keep them where we lived and be near places to hike and tent camp. We could go out to the wilderness for several days at a time carrying only our personal gear. The llamas carried the food and kitchen and tents. They are enjoyable to hike with and social while on the trail. People always want to stop and talk with us about them. We called that hiking on llama time. We lived that lifestyle for about fifteen years. It was great, but we’ve out lived our llamas and don’t want to sleep on the ground anymore. We enjoy living here, it’s quiet, we know most of our neighbors and have enough space to work projects and crafts without having to put them away each night. Cheri is a knitter and uses alpaca wool so we also have a couple of alpaca. They are not good beasts of burden but their wool is exquisite.
What makes this property unique
The cabin was originally in town and occupied by the excavator and his wife during the construction of Trail Ridge Road, the famous and highest paved road in the USA. The rest of his crew slept in a larger cabin which is still in town. They only worked during the summer so it took several years to complete. The previous owner worked for him, (not on that project), and moved the smaller cabin here. The logs and fireplace are original. He re-finished the interior, and over the years we too have made improvements. We listen carefully to guests comments and try to make things as comfortable as possible.
