David was very easy to communicate with, very thoughtful! His newer cabin was exceptional—obviously meticulously well cared for, clean, well stocked, very comfortable beds, beautiful wood interior, new appliances, lovely grounds. This is the nicest VRBO I have stayed at!

Beautiful property overlooking lake. Peaceful. Very clean. Incredibly well stocked with extra towels, linens, everything for the kitchen. The deck was a great place to relax for dinner. The grill area, which we used twice was set up as a great hangout place. Dave is an wonderful host and very responsive. 10 minutes from Crane Lake Visitors Center. Just under and hour from Ash Lake Visitor Center. This was a great location. Would absolutely stay here again!

My stay was even better than I anticipated! I felt right at home with the comfortable accommodations and full-service kitchen that had everything I needed to cook. Dave is a really responsive host and is very much a part of the local community, which makes it easier to get to know the owner and the regulars at the tavern just steps away from the property. The view of the lake was incredible, especially at dawn and dusk, and it was a great place to see all kinds of migratory birds!

Dave was a great host. He was there when we checked in, so it made the check-in process easy. This was one stop of a multiple-leg camping trip, so it was a nice stop to have showers and do laundry and reset. It's very convenient to Voyageurs NP. Be sure to bring everything you need with you, as it's in a pretty remote location, which was perfect for us. There was plenty of space for us to drop the (small pop-up) camper so we could venture out during the day. The property is on a small lake, but close to larger lakes where the kids could swim and kayak. We were also able to bring our doggos with us. We would stay here again without hesitation.

David was great with communicating. Very quick to respond. We rented both Loon and Grand. Beautiful place to stay. It had everything we could want - great parking, kitchen was well stocked, as was the bedroom, bathroom and the entire lodge. Great location too. Snowmobile trails were very close.

Lovely little gem of a cabin!

We stayed for three nights in the Loon Lodge. The lodge is very clean, well-equipped, and the property owners are great communicators! The view from the deck is beautiful, peaceful, and the area loons sang to us while we enjoyed our morning coffee. We would stay here again!

The property is an absolutely perfect way to explore the area, and have a nice, quiet spot to go to relax. We loved the sunsets, the cabin was beautiful, and the outdoor sitting area/fire pit was a favorite spot to end our evenings. Loved everything about it!

A little gem

A little gem. Stayed over New Year’s Eve. Great stay if winter is your thing. Silence was unlike anything I have ever experienced. A great dark sky to look at stars (when clouds don’t obscure…) Dave and Jill are terrific hosts

Perfect and Peaceful

The lodge was perfect with every need and convenience met. We cooked most meals at the lodge and everything needed was provided in the kitchen. The internet was high speed and the TV had every channel imaginable. We especially enjoyed the view from the deck and also the fire pit. We loved the very dark night sky - perfect for star gazing. It was so quiet and peaceful! The owner was very responsive and went the extra mile to make our stay perfect. We enjoyed the NPS boat tour at Voyager’s National Park, the wolf center in Ely, hiking and biking. Beautiful region of the USA. A wonderful and relaxing week. We definitely intend to return for another visit to the lodge.

As expected-ish

Everything was as expected. The property was further away from the water and closer to a main highway than we anticipated. It was really nice to have the entire property to ourselves but we were all a bit disappointed to see we had gotten the smaller cabin even though no one else was staying there. We were there for 3 full days As the only woman with my husband, our two strapping young sons, and our dog, I could’ve used a little more space. The ambiance was typical Northern Minnesota cabin-style. Real log furniture throughout. Real uncomfortable log furniture throughout. We really appreciated the extra blankets, kitchen towels, and extra pillows. We would have probably come back had we been given the larger cabin. That just left a sour taste in my mouth.

Renting out a property requires taking responsibility

Loon Lodge is a spacious and reasonably well-furnished accommodation. Unfortunately, that is where the praise has to stop. There were too many things wrong after this that put this property on our "do not go" list. Let me start with the biggest issue. We were kept awake half of the night of Aug 19-20 because of a faulty smoke alarm that went off twice starting at about 1:30 a.m. We spent about an hour and a half outside the lodge waiting for the fire department to show up twice to check the the premises out. Eventually they had to yank out the smoke detector before we could sleep. Our plans for the next day were completely shot, including a boat trip in Voyageur National Park for which we had bought tickets in advance. The lodge owner "apologized" for this problem, but that does not cut it. Smoke alarms need to be checked and replaced periodically, it is not acceptable to do this only when they exhibit faulty behavior, especially when you have someone else staying on the property and paying good money for the stay. The lodge owner is yet to take responsibility and make amends; it is especially irksome that the only "responsibility" he has taken is to inform us after we have left that the smoke alarm was really faulty and has now been replaced! Other things indicate a similar lack of responsibility. The "Guest Information" is rather out-of-date. It should also not be describing activities 100 miles away, such as at Rainy Lake. Space limits listing other issues.

This Lodge was built in 2010 and was all built to code. The facility is Licensed with the State of Minnesota and just had it's yearly inspection for safety & health in June. There are 3 smoke detectors / C02 detectors in the unit and one of them happened to go bad and the guests called 911, not once but 2 times. In my conversation with FD it was deemed clear and the 2 other detectors were sufficient. It was replaced the next weekend and certainly an unfortunate situation! Our Lodge is up in Northern Minnesota on the Canadian Border and a beautiful place to visit. It is a vast area to explore and I give all of my guests a 4 page guest handbook on activities in the area so they can explore options prior to their arrival date..... • Voyageurs National Park consists of thousands of acres of pristine lakes and Northwoods beauty. In summer, the call of the Loon echoes over the water and across the many campsites. In winter, the park boasts some of the best and finely groomed trails in the country for snowmobiling, skiing, and snowshoeing. Some tourist attractions include: o 3 Visitor Centers: Ash River, Kabetogama Lake, Rainy Lake o Historic Kettle Falls Hotel, o Boat Tours (check with Visitor Centers) o Ellsworth Rock Gardens
