Claypack cabin get-away
Great spot in the woods away from the world! The cabin is cozy and has all the basics needed plus more. The view is great, the lake is very private and quiet (in Wayne's words... "you can hear a bee fart"). Wayne was a a helpful host who was accessible but not intrusive, We especially loved the sauna ! Barb & Denise

Visitors from Michigan
Our vacation began when Wayne met us at the road to Claypack Lake where he warmly greeted us and led us on a gorgeous ride up his lane to the cabin. The weather was perfect and the leaves on the sugar maples, oaks, birches, and others were stunning. Wayne gave us a thorough tour and left goodies for us to enjoy for our week at Claypack. The cabin was rustic but well-appointed. Our desire for seclusion, quiet, and a week of "unplugging" was fulfilled in this magical place. We hiked, fished, canoed, relaxed, read books, enjoyed the sauna, and the list goes on. I don't think we've ever seen Fall colours as spectacular as we did at Claypack. The peace and solitude were just what we needed and Wayne's goal was accomplished - we will hopefully be back! Thanks Wayne!

claypack cottage
My husband and I have just returned from our week at claypack cottage the words magical serene and wonderful are the only way to describe our week. The property is amazing, spotless and completely private never laid eyes on another person until we ventured into town. The owner Wayne was kind enough to allow us to bring our 2 large dogs and needless to say if they could speak they would have thanked us many times over.It was a great feeling coming from the city to watch our dogs have so much fun walking on the trails rowing them in the boat and swimming in the lake no leashes no restrictions. The outdoor facilities turned into a wonderful adventure viewing the forest and lake while having a shower was quite a change and I thoroughly enjoyed it water was always hot and like the property spotless. We were hoping that we would have luck fishing we both enjoy spincasting and we were not disappointed large mouth bass all between 2 to 4 pounds and a couple of sunfish .We would recommend this cottage to anyone. Thankyou Wayne for a great week

About the host

I love to play in the outdoors. My favourite activities include hiking, mtn. biking, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, snowshoeing, bird watching, trail riding and making maple syrup. all of which I do on this property.

I am 67 and retired. .

Why they chose this property

My connection with the Haliburton Highlands goes back 50 years. I went to several summer camps as a child in this area, and fell in love with the lakes and forests. This was fostered by many canoe trips throughout the area. This property is very special to me, as it affords one all the benefits gained from undisturbed wilderness, while maintaining most creature comforts. There are no interruptions from neighbours. You will not hear jet skiis going by, or any other loud annoying activities. Just
the call of the loon along with the calls of countless other species of birds and
animals.

Although the cabins and lake are secluded, you are only 10 minutes from the village of
West Guilford which includes groceries and liquor stores, and 15 minutes from the
town of Haliburton, which has all the amenities one could need. This includes a state of the art hospital for emergencies.

What makes this property unique

Watching Mother Nature without any interruptions.

Living in a Cabin constructed out of, trees from the property. This all wood sustainable construction feels ecologically sound and healthy.

Listening for and sighting exotic species of birds, and viewing wild game animals in their natural habitats.

Fishing on my own lake, and never getting
'skunked' (catch and release please).

Snowshoeing, and breaking trail up to the lookout, where you can get a view of 3 lakes from one spot.

ATVing and snowmobiling on my own trails.

Making my own Maple Syrup.

Watching for the annual return of the great blue herons at our heron rookery.

Taking a sauna in one of the best saunas I
have experienced, and then rinsing off in the outdoor shower, (hot and cold water).

Canoeing and portaging to the next chain of lakes.

Knowing that I am the custodian of this wonderful place for generations to come.
