Moonshine Acres is located in the historic Saint James section of Pine Island. Our home is conveniently located near numerous marinas, restaurants, beaches, & shops. Although there are no beaches on Pine Island, numerous ones are very nearby.
If you enjoy peace and quiet, animals and agro-tourism, you will LOVE Moonshine Acres. And, we are committed to earning your 5 star rating!
Newly constructed building with inviting furniture....a little rustic, a little contemporary, and a little tropical!
The space: Our home is located in the historic Saint James section of Pine Island. Numerous marinas, restaurants, art galleries, shops, boat tours, bird watching are within a very short drive [or even a walk!] An Olympic size, heated community pool and several tennis courts are less than 3 mile bike ride away. Sanibel, Captive, Boca Grande, and Cayo Costa Islands are easily accessed by boat or car. Fort Myers, Cape Coral, and Punta Gorda are neighboring cities that offer great shopping and tourist areas. A visit to Matlacha, the "Art Coast" of Florida is a must-see for anyone visiting this tropical area. There are no public beaches on Pine Island itself. However, numerous, gorgeous beaches are accessible by car or boat. Ferries, water taxis, and tour boats are within walking distance of our home.
Guest access: Guest have access to the home, pond area, and driveway area. Unfortunately, due to insurance restrictions and safety precautions, no access to the barn or the horses is permitted.
Interaction with guests: I am at the barn almost daily and am glad to help in any manner. Please feel free to call, text me, or speak to me in person if you need anything. Otherwise, I will respect your privacy and will not interrupt your time.
Keep in mind that you will be living above a barn. Horses often talk and sleepwalk at night...!!!! Although tranquility abounds, once in awhile one of the horses will make noise.
As Moonshine Acres is an active boarding barn, other horse owners frequently come to the barn to interact with their horse. Please don't be alarmed if some else is in the barn.
Also, our barn cats, Butters (fat white cat) and Reese (tortoise colored) will try to seduce you into feeding them or letting them in the apartment.....Please don't as they are well fed and other future guests may be allergic. Thanks for understanding!
Other things to note: Moonshine Acres is completely fenced and an electric, locked gate and security lights provide added security for our guests.
There are 2 bicycles [male & female] available for your use.
Feel free to feed the ducks, turtles, and fish with the food that is secured in a black trunk located near the gate to the bridge. Kindly secure the locks on the trunk once you have given them a handful of food.
There is a small apartment located across the pond from you. It is occupied by a state park ranger that is happy to give you any info you need on Cayo Costa. His name is Matt and his dog is Gunner!
My husband and I live just one mile away. We are committed to earning your 5 star rating so if you need ANYTHING, please contact us directly. Thanks!

We loved the inside of this property. It was very clean and had everything my family of 4 needed to be comfortable. However, through no fault of the owner, the property does have no-see-ums that bite and leave lasting itchiness for days. It will not be a problem unless you plan on hanging around outside, which is where my kids wanted to be - so I had to be too. I itched for days and it was pretty uncomfortable for my little kids to deal with the bites. Interior was wonderful, the cookies left for us thoughtful, and perfectly clean = 5 stars. But two weeks later, my kids still have the scabs from itching their bites. Worth renting if you don't plan to hang out outside on the property though!

Nice home, clean and well-maintained above sand gnat city
We really did enjoy staying in the home. It was nice on the inside and clean with new appliances and a fair price. However, there are a few things to be aware of before you decide to stay here. First off, the sand gnats are bad. I am still itching 2 days afterward. The horses below only whinnied a few times which did not bother us and was expect. But, they were constantly stomping or knocking in their stalls day and night the entire time of our visit making it difficult to stay asleep. Also, the mattress in the master bedroom was the softest I have ever stayed on and woke up with a sore back. The manager of horses was very friendly though and let my daughter in to pet the horses several times. At the end of the day, we wouldn't stay here again because of the dense concentration of sand gnats on the property.

Hello,
I am sorry that you were bothered by the "no see-ums!" Unfortunately, they are very common this time of year and we can't control Mother Nature! We have had numerous guests that have been extremely complimentary regarding the accommodations and the king-size mattress in the master bedroom is a pillow top. It also has a dense memory foam topper so I am very surprised you found it uncomfortable or soft. I understand that the horses can make noise, but again, this is the first time anyone complained. We hope your daughter enjoyed her visit with our horses and we wish you the best of luck with your future travels!

Very charming and welcoming!
We loved our stay at Moonshine Acres and wish we could've stayed longer! We knew we would love it the minute we pulled into the property. Once inside everything is beautifully decorated and immaculate. We were very comfortable and relaxed while there. Everything you need is already there. Enjoyed seeing the horses graze and morning coffee on the porch. Rosemary the owner lives nearby and is available for whatever you need. We definitely plan to return someday!
