About this property

Lake Home, near HaHa Tonka State Park, Free Kayaking & Outdoor Pavilion Gameroom

The Norton House sits right on the Lake with a breathtaking view of the Big Niangua arm and features wood floors and a newly renovated kitchen with granite countertops, flat screen televisions and free wi-fi. There are 3 bedrooms and 3.5 baths plus two additional queen roll-out sofas. All 3 bedrooms have queen beds.

Enjoy the lakeside picnic grounds and kayaking, relax on the patio and watch the boating activity, grill your supper or eat out, then let the sound of nature lull you to sleep at night.

The kitchen is well equipped with fridge, range, microwave, dishwasher and side bar for your favorite beverages. Enjoy dinners inside in the dining area or outside on the patio so you don't miss the beautiful weather and wildlife! Or, there are several restaurants nearby from casual to fine dining. There is also a big green egg and and offset smoker grill if you like to BBQ. There is a nice, private firepit just outside the front door for your enjoyment.

The Norton House is located west of Camdenton right where the Big Niangua tributary changes from a river to the Lake of the Ozarks. You'll be 'lured' to the Lake where the fishing is amazing for catfish, bass, crappie and walleye. Or play golf at either of two courses, Lake Valley Country club or Old Kinderhook (a Tom Weiskoph signature course).

One of the best features of this property and its sister rental, The Chardonel House, is the easy access to the Lake of the Ozarks. The lakeside picnic grounds is a short walk down the hill from the house or you can drive down the concrete driveway to the park.

About a hundred yards up the driveway from the house is an open-aired pavilion clubhouse with games to enjoy or just sit and take in the lake view.

You have free access to 4 kayaks, singles or doubles, for the length of your stay (a $100.00 value) and can pack a nice picnic lunch and your favorite beverages to enjoy while leisurely paddling the Niangua! Please note that in early spring the Lake water level is drawn down about 5 feet to make ready for the spring rains but you can still launch the kayaks from our dock in the shallower water.

No matter what your perception of a perfect vacation is, you won't be disappointed with the relaxation and serene feeling you will have when you leave this refreshing property!

Great property. Kitchen was good to prepare meals for our group of 7. We really enjoyed the "quieter" end of the lake. The kayaks and paddleboards were so fun for all of us. The dock was adequate for our 2 day boat rental. We loved the firepit and chairs by the lake too!

Norton house was a great place to stay. Very roomy, clean and cozy.

We enjoyed ping pong in the game room. We fished off the dock down the hill, and enjoyed kayaking. Very nice vacation.

Gorgeous, peaceful location!!

We had a wonderful time at the Norton House!! We saw so much wildlife, we enjoyed taking the kayaks out and seeing the cave, we loved sitting out and relaxing on the back porch overhanging the lake and relaxing down by the water as well. My husband was happy as he got to finish 3 books while we were there, I got all my kayaking in, and our kids got to enjoy swimming and playing board games. The home is beautifully decorated in cabin style!! Barb and Ward were extremely responsive to any questions we had as well. We really look forward to and fully plan to come back here to stay again!!
Saw lots of turtles while kayaking
One of many deer we saw

Nice house

Nice house. Good location. Everything was great. For our slower family members we had to drive down to the lake landing because it is a steep walk.

Family getaway

This property was perfect for our family - 6 adults and a baby. Lots of bathrooms and bedrooms - air conditioning worked great since we were there during some very hot days. Loved the access to canoe and kayaks. Access to boat dock for boat rental was so convenient too. Very quiet and so enjoyable.

Anniversary get away

Had a wonderful stay. Everything was as described or exceeded expectations. Quiet property but plenty to do in the area if you want. We got lucky with the April weather and can only imagine what the Lake of the Ozarks must be like in the summer. We would definitely book again.

Excellent property with fully stocked kitchen and good fun with various games at the pavilion (a short uphill walk from Norton house). Good proximity to HaHa Tonka State Park and not too far from other restaurants & attractions. The property is located on hill coming down towards the lake. So the pavilion is at highest point, then another house midway down followed by Norton house, and then finally the kayaks & dock at lowest point at lake level (another walk from house). Launching kayak from ground level into water was more difficult... we found it easier using the dock, even if that means carrying the kayak to that point. Backside of Norton house has small balcony facing the lake, which would be more enjoyable as a larger deck with more capacity. Overall good experience for all family members young and old.

Wedding stay 2019

The property was just as great as it looked online, It worked very well having all the room, it has been well maintained and everything seemed to operate or function as it should. My wife and family loved staying there and would love to go back and stay during the summer months. Thank you Barb and Ward

Beautiful stay

We loved our stay! The property and view were just what we needed to unwind with plenty of activities on property and close by, so it was a great balance. Access to the water is on the property but not right out the back door- you’ll need to walk or drive a very short distance but it’s downhill due to the house sitting on a cliff, which allows the amazing view of the lake but just something to know ahead of time. It was fine for us but anyone with mobility issues should consider this. We were sad to leave, it was truly a beautiful get away.

Anniversary

Such a amazing beautiful place, very clean, kayaking was amazing have never done that before. Had a couple questions and they were very quick to respond. No other houses close by it was very peaceful, went to onyx cave from the book on kayaks. Also went to the castle at haha tonka park that was neat. If your looking to have a good time but be able to relax also this is the place. Promise you wont regret it.

The house was on a bluff over looking the water. Awesome views are all around. Barb and Ward were very easy to work with and are very accommodating. We were aloud a little extra time to play on the property after check out was completed. Would definitely recommend and we will return for sure . GRAET PLACE!!! Summer Vacation

Cannot express how amazing this property was and the overall hospitality from the owners to bring us water and ensure all was well after a nightly storm created a loss of power for a few hours. I work in healthcare...to say the least I am a "germ freak" and this place was immaculate! The views and the overall ammenties are well worth the spend. If you are looking for a quiet place, full of beautiful million dollar views of the lake...book this house. We plan to retun next year and will adjust our dates if needed to ensure this properties availability! Thanks again to the owners for being there and checking in on us! You both are amazingly!

About the host

Hosted by Barb Morris

Host profile image
Owners are Ward & Barb Morris who moved to the Lake in 1985 and raised our 3 children in one of the most beautiful locales in the U.S.! Barb owned and operated several Lake area restaurants over the past 30 years and enjoys the fine art of cooking and especially, pairing food with wine! Ward retired from his Computer Consulting company and enjoys tending to the grapevines and taking care of the property.

Why they chose this property

It is close to town but still a great, country setting with 8 acres and lots of wildlife from deer to White Pelicans, Blue Herons and more! Ha Ha Tonka State park is just a few miles away and with a dozen hiking trails a great excursion anytime we want!

What makes this property unique

We fell in love with the quiet of the Lake and especially the Niangua Arm tributary with it's amazing wildlife. During the months of February, March, October & November you can often spot as many as 700 great white Pelicans feeding on Lake fish for as long as 2 weeks as they migrate. Other birdlife includes the great bald eagle, blue herons, egrets, seagulls, hawks, owls and host of other. In March, you can spot beautiful red foxes siring their new pups and of course, several deer like to walk through the vineyard and eat Ward's grapevines (to his chagrin)! It's a great family setting for reunions or to get away from the city.
