About this property

Bearfoot Hideaway: 5/3 in Black Mountain, 4+ acres, <5 min. to town. Pets YES!.

Hikers and nature enthusiasts: grab your dogs and head on over! If you love to get away from it all, but still want the convenience of modern life, Bearfoot Hideaway is for you. This original Black Mountain gem, has been brought back to life with a full renovation in 2025: luxury, but not stuffy. Most people would have knocked the home down and built a mic-mansion, but we don't believe in that waste and love the authentic feel of the space. Tucked up on top of a mountain, on over 4 acres of property and less than 5 minutes to historic Black Mountain, this location can't be beat (and your phone will actually work!). 360 degree mountain views in the winter, with a sunset view and clear view of Craggy Mountain year round, perfect for those seeking a peaceful escape with the comforts of home.

The ranch with walk-out basement design offers a relaxing vibe, encouraging you to kick off your shoes and go barefoot. Besides the mountain view, there is plenty for the eyes to see as all of the art was sourced right in Black Mountain.

Upon opening the door you are immediately greeted with views of Craggy mountain. Hang your coat up in the closet, and get your pets organized with provided bowls and hooks for leashes. Dog treats and bear bells await on the entry table. Cruise through to the wide open gourmet kitchen with every utensil/dish you may need to cook a huge meal, including basic spices and oils. Stocked by true cooks, the new stainless appliances and marble countertops afford plenty of space to prep for a delicious dinner or prepare light snacks before heading out onto the deck or patio. Enjoy a large meal at the dining table with seating for 8 (pop up table and chairs for the extra 2 if 10 in your party), or hang on the large deck with adirondack chairs and enjoy the changing views of the mountains. Grill away on the gas & charcoal grill, and afterwards plop down on the world's most comfortable sofa, stream a movie on the 55' smart tv and enjoy the gas fireplace.

The home boasts 5 total bedrooms, all with new 12"-14" hybrid mattresses and black-out curtains. The 3 bedrooms on the main level are down the hall, the master to the end of the hall on the left provides a queen bed and on suite bath with walk-in shower. On the other side of the hall is a large bedroom with a king (dog crate in closet if needed) and another with 2 twin beds. These rooms share the large hall bathroom with tub/shower combo.

Head down the stone lined stairs to the basement level, where you will find another den with 42" smart tv, gas fireplace and dedicated workspace with super fast wifi. The laundry room is tucked away off the den. Around the corner from the workspace is a very large marble tiled shower and bathroom, shared by 2 bedrooms each with their own tv's: 1 king and 1 queen. Right outside of the bedrooms is the Zen room, a space to read, do puzzles or just get away from everyone. Head out the basement level doors to the large fire pit area or grab one of the many board games and share some laughs.

Curated by nature lovers, art collectors and animal enthusiasts, the space offers everything you need to feel like home. We encourage you to spend as much time outside as you do in! Enjoy a relaxing meal around the picnic table, and afterwards some corn hole and s'mores around the fire pit. Walk off that huge meal on the trails behind our home, right up the steps in the front or off the path by the fire pit. You may even choose to take a quick trip to town to enjoy a walk around Lake Tomahawk, and a chance to let the dog swim, or just wander and shop.

Inside the manual to the home you will find directions on everything you could possibly need to have a fantastic vacation. Owned by avid hikers, the manual includes some favorites hikes for all level hikers, as well as favorite spots for that post hike drink! We encourage you to dive deep into all Black Mountain has to offer, from amazing art, shops, pottery, distilleries, breweries and excellent restaurants. And of course, Asheville is just minutes away! Bearfoot Hideaway is the perfect spot for the adventure enthusiast, or the person who just wants to zen out. We look forward to hosting you!

About the host

Host profile image
Originally from KY, then to VA/NJ/FL and now 26 yrs in NC on Lake Norman. We enjoy anything outside, in nature. Avid hikers, we have explored all over the WNC as I trained to summit Mt. Rainier with my son in ‘23. We especially fell in love with the town of Black Mountain years ago. We love that it has expanded but fought hard to maintain the small town vibe. Volunteering here and in Swannanoa after Hurricane Helene persuaded us that these ante our people. We purchased in Feb 2025. I asore introducing people to Black Mtn and all it has to offer to everyone, whether you love nature or not! We also love art, the brewery scene and all of the great shops and galleries in the area. We are never bored!!! I especially love the family vibe that is super relaxed and inviting in Black Mountain. Our home is a great spot to kick back and watch the wildlife or hop in the car to head out for an epic hike or great shopping excursion.

Why they chose this property

Our neighborhood is super chill. People stay to themselves, but totally have each other’s backs when we need each other. I love the long drive up our driveway and the fact that civilization feels miles away, yet I could run to a neighbor if I had an emergency. The wildlife never ceases to amaze me, from the deer that love the hostas to the bears that love anything they can get their claws on! My dogs love smelling all the smells and running freely around the property, completely exhausted every night. The changing views of the mountains are fascinating and grounding to me. Every season the view changes, as well as the lighting. Winter is actually my favorite time at the house, as the light is amazing and the views are 360.

What makes this property unique

This home was built in 1964 and has an original bunker behind the garage we are trying to decide what to do with. I adore the property and that I can walk out my front door and walk for a long time through the woods with my dogs and not see a soul. I can then come home, and in 2 minutes grab something at Ingles and come home to cook it up and watch the sunset. I openly admit I am a snob when it comes to short term rentals, so I decorated this as if it is my full time residence. I want to feel as comfortable here as I do when home, and I want our renters to as well.
