About the host
Your host

Ross and Alison bought a cabin deep in the woods of Berkeley Springs in 2021, splitting our time between here and DC. Two weeks a month became three, then four as we fell in love with the historic Town of Bath and surrounding Berkeley Springs. We moved here full time in 2024. (Be careful when you visit — this kind of story happens all the time!)
When this beautiful but neglected 1870 home in the heart of the Town of Bath came up for sale, we jumped at the chance to restore it and fill it with love, art, and beautiful spaces. We love sharing our spaces with people (like the yurt and campsites on our home property for friends), so it was natural for us to create a short-term rental space in town.
Alison is a psychotherapist by day and a lover of color, beauty, and art all the time. She taught herself decoupage and restored pieces for Congress House. Ali was the designing eye for all the spaces and the gardens.
Ross is a consultant in healthcare and aspires to be a competent woodworker before he retires. He did much of the work over eight months to prepare the home for you.

Why they chose this property
The Town of Bath was founded in 1776 and is full of history and an eclectic mix of generational families and regional transplants who fell in love with Berkeley Springs. Even though we live only 12 minutes away, we love having a place in town to share with the many people who return to Berkeley Springs to enjoy wonderful restaurants, adorable shops, and the many festivals, music events, and other happenings in this vibrant downtown. Mountainous beauty surrounds you and gives you access to many outdoor recreational activities.
On your street are two of our favorite spots in town — Creekside Provisions + Supplies is the perfect place to grab coffee, a delicious smoothie, a handcrafted sandwich or a salad while enjoying the small art gallery. Lots of perfectly curated items for travelers, craft beer and excellent wines are for sale. Tell our friends Sam and Jeff that Ross and Ali sent you.
The Cardinal Bar is managed by our friends Nick and Zach. It is open from noon to 2am every day of the year. It’s a vibrant gathering place with the best hot dogs — the only food they sell — you’ve ever had. Trust us on this. The secret is the buns, coated with a little Duke’s mayo and toasted on the grill.
Just around the corner is the Morgan Arts Council Ice House (Ross is on the board and chairs the music committee). We put on free concerts throughout the summer. You’ll find several pieces of art in our home from the wonderful Ice House gallery.
Two new restaurants are a short walk and we highly recommend both. Proof on Washington is a whiskey bar with a masterful chef. The Vine Trattoria on Fairfax Street features old world Italian cuisine and an excellent wine list.
Also a short walk away is the Berkeley Springs State Park where something is going on most every weekend in the summer.
The local farmers market runs from April to November on Sundays from 10am to 2pm. You might see Ross playing music there some days.

What makes this property unique
We’ve enjoyed many BnB experiences over the years. After a while, the spaces sort of blend together. There’s a certain standard experience you come to expect — clean, spare, and often devoid of character. Congress House is not one of those places. Each room is unique and filled with surprising touches. The backyard with its deck, gazebo, large fire pit, and English gardens is a private oasis and a perfect place to relax and enjoy a restful sit. Enjoy a grand meal in the formal dining room with seating for eight. Take a long soak in one of the beautifully restored circa 1920s clawfoot tubs.
