Artist’s apartment

Beautiful natural light, clean and overlooking Main Street in Salisbury. Extremely well equipped with pillows, blankets, towels, clean, new bedding. I imagine an artist writing a song or a novel here. Walkable to shops, a market, grazing sheep and the best cold brew and pastries you can find anywhere.

We ended up not staying. A few things 1) when you go in, to the right is a door to a store/shop which was unlocked and I didn’t have the key so I couldn’t lock it. So anyone who had access to the shop could just come in to the apartment. Then when you go up the stairs to the apartment, there is no way to lock the entryway to the living room. So I did not feel safe being there alone with my kids because I couldn’t secure the space. The owner’s response is that it is an owner’s door and that people wouldn’t be going in the shop. But that doesn’t give me reassurance because the door was unlocked and I don’t know when the shop is open or who has access to that shop. What if a person who works at the shop decides to come up? Not having a way to secure that door is a dealbreaker. (Also the lock was from the apartment side so presumably someone in the shop could just open the door into the apartment. But again, it was unlocked with no way for me to secure it.2) the apartment is laid out where you have to go through the kid room to get to the adult bedroom, so you can’t use the main room at night because you would wake up the kids going to your room. You also have to go to the kid room to go to the bathroom. So it is impractical to use with young kids. So we ended up getting rooms at the white hart and then going home early because they didn’t have two nights available. Overall disappointing and I think they need to put another door that you can lock at the top of the stairs.
