Lakefront Fall Foliage in New England Just 2 Hours From NYC

Inside Our Cabin (Central Air and Heat)

We have a brand new kitchen with a stainless steel dishwasher, fridge and range, Nespresso and traditional coffee makers, toaster and microwave ovens, as well as cutlery, dinnerware and serving/cooking utensils and pots and pans. We provide some staples such tea, coffee, pasta, and soups. The kitchen has a sunrise view of Indian Mountain.

In the spacious living room, there's a big, beautiful window overlooking Indian Lake with a sunset view. We have a comfy couch and 2 club chairs with ottomans to relax and watch the birds flying by. There is a large, stone coffee table perfect for doing jigsaw puzzles or playing board games (we have an assortment available). The 54" TV has Netflix, HBO, AMC, Peacock, Disney and Amazon Prime with excellent wifi connectivity and a portable Bluetooth speaker to listen to tunes. The room is decorated with a cottagey mix of original watercolors by a nationally renowned artist and local thrift store treasures. At night, you can have the convenience and ambiance of our electric fireplace with thermostat and LED lights. Use the Barska Professional Spotting Scope or the binoculars to see clear across the lake.

For sleeping accommodations, there are two pocket door adjoining bedrooms (one with a queen bed and the other with two twins). For extra comfort, we have memory foam mattress toppers and dressers and hooks available for storage of your belongings. There is a blue tooth speaker light bulb in the twin bedroom. Charge you phones and tablets with the USB charging stations in all night stands. Bed linens included.

Our bathroom has been completely remodeled. New tile, floors, vanity, medicine cabinet and toilet were put in. There is a stand up shower with plenty of hot water in the bathroom. Towels, shampoo, conditioner, soap, hairdryer and straightener included.

The house is thoroughly cleaned by expert cleaners according to CDC guidelines after each guest stay.

Outside - This is What You're Coming For

The long yard has direct sun almost all day and you can relax while fishing on the pier or sunbathing/yoga on the dock. If you prefer, you can sit under a shady tree in our Adirondack chairs with plush cushions and enjoy the view. We have direct access to private, resident only Indian Lake. There is a brand new floating dock to enter the lake with non motorized boats. The lake is swimmable, but you can not enter directly from our property to swim. you will need to use our inflatable dock. We have a gas BBQ, lawn games, 2 bicycles, fishing poles, and a fire pit. There is parking for up to 4 cars. Although we are directly on the road, you'll hardly notice it with all of the outdoor beauty on the other side of the house. At night, the Milky Way is so brilliant, you won't believe your eyes. Private and beautiful - the perfect combo.

We have many forest friends who come to visit including beavers, foxes, red squirrels, chipmunks, osprey, ducks, turkeys, deer, swans, geese, and keep your eyes peeled for the great, grey heron. You may even be lucky enough to see our most famous resident, the bald eagle. Be on the look out for the Indian Lake Monster AKA Indy.

Day Trips

Winter at Yellow Hook holds it's own special charms. There are several ski resorts a short drive away. Mohawk, Catamount and Butternut Mountains are nearby for day or night skiing. Ski all day and return to the cabin for apres ski. If the cold holds, our lake freezes solid and offers the opportunity for ice fishing.

We are 1 mile from the Harlem Valley Rail Trail, 1/4 mile away from hiking on Indian Mountain via the Sharon Land Trust, and nearby to the Sharon Audubon Society and Appalachian Trail.

There is seasonal auto racing at Lime Rock in Salisbury or the 4 Brothers Drive-In movie theater in Amenia. We are close to award winning restaurants, local hot spots, rustic Colonial inns, and The Edward, our favorite place to relax with a glass of wine. All of these fantastic spots are within a 20 minute drive.

There are weekly Farmer's Markets in Millerton and Amenia, farm stands, antique stores, and the Sharon Playhouse to while away your bucolic days.

So if you're looking for the perfect get away from everything where you can relax and do nothing, connect with nature and enjoy small town New England - Yellow Hook is your place to be.

Truly enjoyed our fall hiking getaway in your cozy well appointed cottage. The location on Indian Lake is beautiful, especially taking in the glorious sunsets. The available boating options with easy access to the lake enhanced our stay. The cottage is conveniently situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The trails just across the street were an added bonus. We highly recommend this property.

This was our 2nd time staying and we LOVED it just as much as before! The house is just charming… exactly as pictured. Comfy and cozy with amazing views. My husband went out every morning and evening fishing. I relaxed and enjoyed the views from both inside and out. Nice hiking trails, wineries and shops all close by.

Great stay!

It was a great stay- beautiful property and would love to book again! It was really challenging to get onto the lake with the doc deflated but that’s such an easy fix! Everything else was wonderful!

My wife and decided to decompress from life in Manhattan with a two-week stay at this cottage by the lake. We had an absolute blast. The lake was steps away for kayaking, fishing, wildlife watching (our resident Muskrat "Muskie" swimming by with his head above water, Great Blue Heron, Eagles). Fishing was great, with some good size Smallmouth Bass, plus Perch and panfish. We loved the firepit (sunken pit for large fire if you like) and the picnic table and good size lawn around them. The interior is super cute decorated with a tastefully curated selection of lake house decorations. When not enjoying the cottage, we found it a great home base from which to explore nearby towns (Kent, Salisbury, Sharon, etc.), the Housatonic River, and many great hikes close by. The trailhead to a beautiful moderate hike in the Sharon Land Trust is under a five minute walk from the cottage. Just a fantatstic spot.

Wonderful Relaxing Spot

We had a great stay here. We were looking for a spot where we could relax and enjoy the final days of summer and this was the perfect place - it was so quiet and peaceful. We spent most of our time enjoying the lake, using the provided fishing gear and kayaks/paddleboard. The hosts were great with communication leading up to our visit. Would definitely recommend if you are looking for a quiet and peaceful spot to recharge.

A perfect place to unwind

My husband and I stayed here with our two small dogs. It was a perfect New England lakeside getaway. The cottage is clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. The grounds include gorgeous gardens, lake and mountain views, a nature preserve with hiking trails, and beautiful sunset views. The area is very private and quiet, perfect for sitting out in the morning with a coffee and listening to the birds. The owners were available if needed, and they included so many amenities and little touches around the place, they really thought of everything. The welcome gifts were a lovely touch and very much appreciated. We had a wonderful time and would highly recommend this property for a relaxing stay to unwind with nature.

Reunion weekend

Being from the area and no longer owning a home in Sharon the cottage was perfect. It provided all the comforts of home. The setting right on Indian lake was relaxing. Wish the weather had been more cooperative however, being down in the area for a high school reunion left little time for activities. The owners couldn't have been more welcoming and I definitely will be booking for future stays to visit relatives.

Enjoyed our stay

Our overall experience was wonderful. The house was clean and comfortable. The host's go to great lengths to make you feel welcome, like providing furniture covers for pets and even having a toy for our dog in a welcome basket. The only downside was the lake is unusable from the home and there is no public beach either. Luckily the weather wasn't very hot during our stay and we were able to find other bodies of water close by to swim and go boating.

Beautiful spot to relax

Hidden among the fields of farms overlooking a beautiful wildlife lake. We thoroughly enjoyed our morning and evening routine of sitting outside and watching the herons in the lake. Lake is not swimmable but good fishing. 5 mins to Millerton for antique shopping or eating. Appalachian trail nearby and the Sharon Audubon is 15 mins and great for kids. Home is cozy and well provisioned. While it is on a main road, it isn’t very busy and virtually no one after 8. Overall great area, wonderful location and beautiful place to unwind.

Well needed getaway

I can't say enough about the property and the property owner! The lake house was exactly as described and the "workings" of the property were well outlined in a binder. Despite rainy weather all 3 days, we had the most relaxing, comfortable stay. We brought along our little " Daisy" dog, so we did not do any sight seeing, but the view out the back was all we needed!!!! Close enough in CT, that we can't wait to book another weekend . Special thanks to our hosts, for the welcome note and gift, and for immediately responding to our silly questions!! It was hard going back home. Some words of advice, however many days you are planning, book one or 2 more. You wont be sorry! Noelle, Alan and Daisy-Mae

Paradise on the Lake

The Yellow Hook cabin is the perfect place to escape this crazy world for a bit. Amanda & Ed have done amazing job with the cabin itself. It is exactly as pictured. They thought of every detail - from the essentials in the kitchen & bathroom, to all the gear to really enjoy the lake. The views are unparalleled. Whether you are outside taking it in or looking out the picture window in the living room - it truly is a 2 million dollar view! Amanda was quick to respond when we did have a question. And went above and beyond with her recommendations. Her knowledge of the area was super helpful and made us feel like locals! Amanda & Ed were phenomenal hosts. We definitely plan to go back soon.

pampered with beautiful views

Staying in this house made me feel like I was staying with long time friends who had to leave but wanted to leave me with amenities so I would be comfy. Easy check in process, unit was even ready early. There were treats: popcorn, smores kit, wine (white and red), coffee -darn I meant to buy more and candy. They also stocked things like pasta, tea, CONDIMENTS, and toiletries - even toothpaste! The pontoon was not docked at the house as the original photos I saw indicated, but was anchored further out. I had hoped to pole the pontoon out -which would have been so much nicer for getting in and out. Instead we rowed. It is a long step down, but the rowboat is very stable - we figured it out. Loved having a big fire every night. Fire pit sits low in the ground. This may be really nice in the summer since there isn't as much outward heat. Amazing sunsets and all through out the day - so lovely to see the lake view from their ample outside viewing locations, or the front room and bedroom. Bath flooring does need an update, and the light to the fixture over the sink is in a super odd and hard to reach place, but the light is needed else the bath is too dark. Curtains on the shower make it rather dark in the shower. Plenty of storage space for items AND they have such an amazing stock of just about anything you might need. First aid, pain pills, antacids . . . . Beautiful property with lovely and fun landscaping. Those with smell sensitivities be aware that they do use plug ins, and there is something also in the bathroom. I removed these items for. our stay. Great bonus the Harlem Rail trail is only 2 so miles away, so we pedaled that. Went for several walks and other bike rides, in addition to lake fun. My husband did have a short swim. It was a bit cool as it was windy out.I was less motivated to swim. SO VERY worth the trip CONS Would prefer Kayak over hefting heavy canoe in the lake, but we managed. Excellent for stand up paddle boards - bring them if you have them. My husband didn't want to get on the boards at the house since they had fins and the water level was low. We got on them from the pontoon. No dish washer (I forgot to check for this, but I am GLAD I missed it, else I would have missed this gem) we learned to wash as we go! No washer/dryer - but there a short time and didn't miss it. Yes, close to the road but the view is worth it, didn't notice cars at bed time.

This little piece of heaven was wonderful! We felt so at home and welcomed, but also felt like we were staying on distant shores! We enjoyed a lovely week by the lake. Our hosts made everything easy from check-in to check-out. Their lovely house is well-equipped from the complete kitchen, comfortable living spaces and all the outdoor, boating and lake accessories you may need. We enjoyed kayak rides on the quiet lake, BBQs at the picturesque picnic table and hiking at the nature preserve just across the street. Everything about the stay was wonderful!
