About this property

A Lovely Mountain Chalet

The main benefits of “Hodge Lodge” are LOCATION and VIEW.
LOCATION: Our house is about 1 mile from stores and restaurants. It borders Tonto National Forest at the end of Pine View Dr. on the eastern slope of Strawberry Mountain. The area is secluded and peaceful with lots of wildlife.

VIEW: The view is really nice. You see the whole valley and have a clear view of the Mogollon Rim. When you are on the upper deck you are nearly at tree top level and nothing will block your view. The night sky and stars are breathtaking.

The house has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms that will sleep 6 in beds and for additional sleep options we have a futon in the fireplace room and sleeping pads in the loft.

The 3rd bedroom is an apartment which has a private access from the back of the house. It has a King size bed, bathroom with shower, microwave, refrigerator, private patio, WiFi, 42 inch flat screen with satellite TV, and two recliner chairs.

This spacious chalet has (2400 sq. ft.) of living space and almost 2000 sq. ft. of outside decking nestled in the forest. It is a very relaxing and peaceful place. Everything you would need to prepare meals or relax is furnished.

This house is located at the end of a well maintained gravel road. It is one of the highest locations in Pine situated on the east slope of Strawberry Mountain. The view is spectacular. The upper level deck raps around the house for 360 degree view of the area. Our living room is within feet of the Tonto national forest. You would be totally surrounded by tall Ponderosa pines. There are lots of wildlife small and large to view. (Elk, Deer, Coyotes and a variety of small game)
We are within walking distance (about 1 mile) to antique shops, restaurants, bars, library, community center and playground. Pine/Strawberry host several seasonal arts and crafts festivals, rodeos and other special events. There are many hiking, mountain biking and riding trails. Go horseback riding, golfing, fishing or swimming in the creeks/rivers. Pine has much to offer such as antique shops, restaurants, specialty stores, arts and craft festivals and other special events.
You would be 90 minutes north of Phoenix
157 miles from the Grand Canyon
5 miles from the north side of the Mogollon Rim
13 miles from Payson which has golf, airport, Restaurants, Movies, Wal-Mart, Home Depot, and lots of locally owned shops.
88 miles to Snow Bowl ski resort, Flagstaff, AZ.

Great getaway

Loved getting away from the high Phoenix temperatures. Enjoyed going to Green Valley Park in Payson for the fireworks and other fourth of July activities. There was plenty of room for our large group and everything is well taken care of. Very easy booking process. The railing on the deck is very loose but the owners gave warning before our arrival.

Excellant Family Get Away

This is a great place to vacation. Everything you could possibly need is there. Just bring your food and you are ready to go. Or you could visit the many restaurants in the area. The home is clean and well maintained. The wrap around balcony is a great place to enjoy coffee with the sunrise. This was our fourth visit and we will continue to visit. As our grandson put it, "It's like our second home."

Cool times in the pines!

What a great trip we had up to Pine Arizona, staying at the Hodge Lodge. The owners were spot on with their description of the property. Great ambiance at the home with plenty of room for our group of two couples. Comfortable furnishings, beautiful surroundings and great friends to share it with. The home was clean and tidy, just as promised and the information and tips given to us by the Hodges family helped to make this a wonderful time for all. We visited several of the areas eateries and highly recommend the deli, just down the road. I would certainly recommend this property to family and friends and look to return again soon.

Peaceful and relaxing

Rented this cabin for my girlfriends birthday and invited close friends as a surprise. The cabin accommodated everyone just fine even with teenage girls due to the 4 bathrooms. Everyone enjoyed the views and the peacefulness of being in the woods. Room to play cornhole and other games as well. The wrap around deck is awesome. Wake up early enough and the elk walk right by the downstairs apartment. Very nice place and owner was very helpful and responsive. Would recommend to others.

Great family get away!

We have been visiting the Pine area for several years. The Hodge Lodge exceeded our expectations. The wrap around deck was a great place to start the day, enjoying the cool mornings with a cup of coffee on the porch swing. The views are spectacular, and we welcomed the rain! The home was a perfect way to escape the valley and relax with good books and family. The place was clean and everything you could need was there. The listing description is accurate, just bring your food or visit some of the local restaruarnts. We always try to make it to HB's for the Fish Fry on Friday night. We will certainly be visiting again and woud highly recommend this place to friends.

Pine - A Great Place To Recharge

Pine is a nice, small community with plenty of things to do within a short distance. Our rental was comfortable, and accommodated our party with room to spare. Nestled atop a hill, the views from the wrap-around patio were spectacular. It was most certainly a welcome rest, away from the hubbub of urban life. And the pace of life was how set by you. Some days were filled with activity, others were just staying around the house soaking up the fresh air and looking for wildlife from the comfort of your balcony. All in all, we wanted for nothing while staying at the lodge. I’d most certainly go back for another relaxing break.

Great views

To start, on day one we saw 5 cow elk out of the kitchen window which was pretty amazing. But overall the cleanliness of the property was not great. There was dead bugs in the bedroom light fixtures, hair in the shower and on the shower head, and overall dust and debris everywhere. Lastly, the heat was awful to control. You would set it to a certain temp and it would run roughly 10 degrees around that number but would never set. It was a unique experience for over the holidays and offered great hikes around the house with beautiful views at sunrise and sunset.

Spacious, charming, family-friendly mountain home with amazing views

The Hodge Lodge was a beautiful and charming place with excellent views. It is well-suited for families with kids, and my kids loved it so much that they didn't want to leave! The wraparound deck is the best! We saw elk several times! Further, Pine itself is a cute small town with shops, parks, churches, farm stands, a post office, a library, and even a town museum. The house is both very quiet and isolated (great for star-gazing and nature-watching), but a quick drive to needed amenities. Two folks in our family even went hiking on a nearby mountain. The beds were comfortable, the bathrooms were excellent, the laundry room was convenient, and the kitchen was well-appointed. (Attention families with young kids: there are kid dishes, a high chair, a toddler swing, kid furniture, and a baby gate!) There are games and DVDs available for additional entertainment. There are plenty of living spaces to spread out, including a big kid-friendly loft, a cozy fireplace room, and a spacious television room. (We hooked up our laptop to the television to stream movies.) It's also a great place for folks who need to work from home, with plenty of quiet space. The only drawback was that the house needed a deeper cleaning (more detailed dusting and mopping). It was fine for our purposes, but I ended up sweeping and wiping some walls. There was also no trash pickup when we were there. Overall, our family felt very safe and comfortable there, and we recommend this property to anyone! It's a beautiful home.

Great place with just a few drawbacks

This was a very nice place to stay for our group of 9 people, and we really loved the location. It is close enough to Phoenix to be convenient, but rural enough to feel like we were away from everyone. We basically lived in the fishbowl room, which was big enough for everyone to hang out in to watch movies, work on puzzles, play games, enjoy the scenery, or just sit and visit. The apartment down below is completely separate from the main house which made it inconvenient to use for anything other than sleeping and showering, but it was nice to have the extra room. We could never figure out how to turn any lights on in the fireplace room, so we didn't really use that room either. The kitchen was well stocked with pots and pans for cooking (high chairs and lots of plates/dishes for children), and we loved having it so centrally located. We had one day with almost no water pressure in the entire house. I made a call to the owner and was informed that the city was working on the water that day. He made a call to the city, then called me back to let me know it would be back on by 5 pm (very reassuring). It was a problem because several family members had not showered yet, and we couldn't do the dishes in the kitchen without any water. The water did come back late in the afternoon, but it was frustrating during the day. There are plenty of bathrooms for everyone. We loved going for walks in the area, and seeing deer in the meadow out front in the mornings. There were plenty of blankets and sleeping bags in the house to keep us warm, also. The beds were good overall, except for the queen bed in the apartment, which felt like it was 2 separate beds. We really enjoyed our time in the cabin and will most likely return again.

Nice stay, rained in the afternoon making the swamp cooler ineffective with high humidity. Lower suite had no cooling air except for a portable oscillating fan making the higher temperatures quite warm in the suite. Appliances were dated but the view was outstanding. Forest critters were abundant and enjoyable to watch and admire.

Nice little getaway in the mountains

We enjoyed staying at the home. The kitchen had most things we needed and it was very nice that there was a kids gate on the stairs and no stairs off the large wrap around porch. It made it safe for the kids to play. We wished the AC worked a little better but the host answered some questions about how to get it to work more efficiently very quickly.

Great place with lots of nature!

The Hodge Lodge is a wonderful place to stay! It is a quiet area with lots of room to roam, and we saw lots of wild life outside of the kitchen window! Going on the deck at night and looking at the stars was breathtaking. Lots of kitchen supplies is provided, as well as towels and extra toilet paper!
