Thank you Paul! We are so happy you enjoyed our beautiful property. We spent a lot of time and energy in making it inviting, warm and distinct. Thank you for being our first VRBO guest!
It was over the moon wonderful. The house was excellent. Everything you would ever need and I loved that the drawers and cabinets were labeled with content in the kitchen. Everyone found the sleeping accommodations great. The sunsets and views were magnificent. Overall a fabulous experience staying there. My family also really enjoyed the pool and hot tub as well. The communication with the owners was excellent. Sean responded quickly and kindly to every question and concern. Highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a retreat with unexpected pleasures!!
Reminiscent of Korakia in Palm Springs, this peaceful Joshua Tree retreat exceeded every expectation. From the moment I arrived, the property felt serene, private, and beautifully considered, with a quiet desert elegance that made it feel both luxurious and deeply restorative.Every detail reflected care and quality: crisp high-end sheets, beautifully comfortable bedding, plush towels, and lovely toiletries that made the stay feel effortless and indulgent. The pool was sparkling clean and absolutely inviting, with easy heat controls that made it perfect at any time of day. The sense of privacy was exceptional, creating the feeling of being tucked away in my own desert sanctuary.I especially loved the labyrinth, which added such a meditative and special quality to the property, and the natural surroundings made for wonderful birdwatching during the day and unforgettable stargazing at night. The host was truly top shelf: highly communicative, helpful, and attentive, almost like having a butler online whenever I needed anything. This is a rare and beautiful Joshua Tree retreat: peaceful, refined, soulful, and impeccably hosted. It earns my highest recommendation for anyone looking for an elevated and memorable stay in Joshua Tree.
Great host. Very responsive. The house had everything we needed. A few notes for whatever they are worth:The house is located on a sandy road. We had a large SUV, but I would have been nervous about getting stuck in something smaller. In fact, we ordered a food delivery, and the guy had to try several paths before he got to us. The house does not have central air, but individual ACs all over the place - so it took several hours to get things cool and comfortable for sleeping the night we arrived. The "goddess room" AC does not seem to work very well - we were never able to get that room very comfortable. It's a great place to see the night sky. It would be cool if there were a simple will to kill all the outdoor lights - at least in a specific area - so that we could see the stars a little better.

Thank you so much for the wonderful review and for taking the time to share this feedback! We're thrilled you had a great experience.
Re: the sandy road—we appreciate you mentioning this. Most guests with standard sedans and compact SUVs navigate it without issue, so please don't hesitate to recommend us to friends without high-clearance vehicles. We'll also follow up with our delivery partners about the best approach route.
We'll absolutely check on the goddess room AC. While this is the first we're hearing of comfort issues in that room, we want to make sure everything is working optimally for future guests.
And we love your stargazing suggestion about the outdoor lights! That's a thoughtful note we'll consider for enhancing the experience.
Thanks again for being such a wonderful guest. We hope to see you back in the desert soon!
This is such a special place - we had high hopes after looking at the pictures and reading the description and yet it somehow was even more wonderful than we had hoped. Every room is so creative and the outdoor space is phenomenal. We especially enjoyed the campfire and stargazing from the hot tub. It was winter so didn’t use the pool much but it made for a great cold plunge after the hot tub! We also loved the labyrinth and walked it every morning and evening. Our daughters really loved it as well and we enjoyed seeing them appreciate the peacefulness of walking of it. It’s hard to describe the feeling of this property, it was luxurious with so many creative and thoughtful details yet also felt like a home. Great hosts as well, so helpful and responsive.

About the host
Hosted by Sean Donnelly
We live in San Diego and have two short term rentals in central San Diego.
Holly has been a global traveler her whole adult life, and has stayed in many magical places. The Joshua Tree Desert is one of those magical places, and she was very excited to share this experience with her partner Sean. When we bought this place, the goal was to create a space of peace and community for ourselves, but also something that can be shared with others. Where people can come, slip into another world, for connection with nature, connection with self, and connection with others.
Why they chose this property
This property backs Copper Mountain, which not only allows for privacy, but for the shifting light and colors of the desert, and for desert wildlife.
What makes this property unique
We did not design this property to be ultra modern and minimalistic, which is the current trend in desert decor right now. We created an atmosphere to capture the texture and color of the desert. Each room is unique and much of the decor is an homage to desert cultures around the world- many of them places we have traveled ourselves. We would like our guests to feel transported at the Joshua Tree Labyrinth House. To feel immersed in an experience that is unique to our property.
The pool in the back yard is organically curved, with tiles that reflect the desert sky and mountains behind. We have multiple sleeping and sitting areas within the house and outside, to accommodate larger groups with a variety of little private areas, but to also allow smaller parties to enjoy the space without feeling lost.
We built the Labyrinth ourselves, and it is an ongoing labor of love to expand it and finetune it, with a small group of "Labyrinth Brothers" who work on it when time allows. Our Labyrinth is listed on the Labyrinth Society website: https://labyrinthlocator.org/labyrinth/the-joshua-tree-labyrinth/?fwp_city=Joshua+Tree
