Nice place

Apartment was just as described. We were only there 12 hours due to a busy vacation schedule. Slept like a rock and recharged.

Appartment in driving distance of Yosemite National Park

Clean appartment A/C is very loud. Kitchen is equipped with the essentials but could need a couple of cutting boards.

Cozy apartment

This property felt like home. Clean, cute Bear decor. Lots of extras, k-cups, foil, paper towels, popcorn, filtered water, sweet little town. Only one night we had some children upstairs that were loud very early in the morning. Six deer met us at the end of the street. I would stay here again.

Yosemite Stay

It was so nice and clean! Parking was very easy and felt safe. Quiet area and a nice drive into the park. I would recommend to anyone looking for something a little outside the park that is comfortable with everything you need! Thanks for a wonderful stay!

Heat and Fire

Due to the extreme heat (over 110) we didn’t take the trip and it was good that we didn’t as Mariposa is on fire. More than 900 acres burned so far. The rental is on Hospital Road and was one of the first areas to be evacuated

No better place to spend our thanksgiving!

I am so glad we picked here to stay for our thanksgiving getaway. It was perfect. And the owner went above and beyond to make sure we felt at home. She even had snacks, a filled cookie jar, water, and a Keurig with a variety of coffees. We would stay here again in a second. And bonus that it was an easy drive to Yosemite. Loved loved loved this place

Great Stay!!

If your thinking about staying in Mariposa, this place is perfect! Don't let the price make you think you'll get what you pay for, because with this rental you get so much more than you pay for. There were so many wonderful extras included in the rental. We stay at vrbo rentals often and I must say that Irene is definitely one of the best hosts!! We would recommend this rental to anyone and we will definitely stay here again when in the area.

Excellent apartment with everything you need in a beautiful location.

I stayed here over Memorial Day weekend with my family and first of all, the rates were comparable to a nearby 1-room hotel but you get so much more here. We found everything we needed for breakfast— coffee, tea , hot chocolate and all the cooking utensils for making a delicious breakfast. The rooms were spacious and the beds incredibly comfortable. The checkout and checkin instructions were very clear and there was ample parking. The area is very quiet and wooded. We will definitely book here again for our next visit to Mariposa.

I stayed at the bear retreat with my husband and daughter. This was my first time I always stayed at a hotel. I couldn't believe how nice it was furnished, from bedding to a complete kitchen. Irene was wonderful I know I will stay here again. I loved the extra touch Irene supplied the nuts and candy even cookies.

Excellent location, layout, supplies, landlord, and value

My wife and I spent 3 nights in Mariposa. The 1st floor apartment is in a very quiet neighborhood close to the hospital, a couple of minutes drive to downtown Mariposa. The apartment is very clean, well-appointed (from furniture to TV/internet to dishes/condiments/supplies), with clean firm good sleeping beds. The landlord Irene is extremely responsive and very personable. Overall price/value quotient is excellent. We will stay again!

EXCELLENT

I love this place. This is the second time that I have booked this place and I still love it! The apartment is very comfortable and it has everything. This apartment includes everything that a hotel has plus more. Such as, dishes, gas bbq, spices, cooking supplies, etc. The apartment is very nice and comfortable enough for all ages. Our group ranged in ages from 10-67 and we all loved it. I really recommend this apartment you can tell the owner keeps up with every detail and pushes for everybody to get the best experience possible.

Great location for Yosemite

Great location for a visit to the Yosemite area. The condo is very clean and you are really made to feel at home. Irene left items in the fridge and little gifts for the stay. She also provides a great coffee machine with a variety of coffees. You will not be disappointed and will be amazed at just how much "bear products have been bought and on display in the condo. The local supermarket is just behind Burger King on the main road. It is also worth dropping in at the visitor information centre (again on the main road) who went out of their way to assist us in our visit to Yosemite. Several local restaurants were also very good.

Warm and homey feeling in a great area!

It was a truly relaxing time, staying at the Bear Retreat with out 2 small children and dog for New Year's (2015) weekend. The resort is so homey, spacious, has everything we needed, and the internet worked great :). Just 5 minutes from the main street, but still surrounded by nature, we walked out dog every morning off leash on the trails right outside our door. We explored nearby trails, visited the children Museum in Oakhurst (really nice place) and ate locally grown food which is a treat in itself. Irene and Art are just wonderful and very welcoming, and we are sure to go back for another stay. The Picture is from Stockton Creek Reservoir trail - 2 minutes away. Our 3 year old did it easily. I carried the little one :)

Perfect Get Away

This was the best decision! Our daughter lives in Mariposa and we wanted to visit with her. In the past we have stayed in local motels. Irene's property is just as it is listed. Perfect! It was clean, comfortable and convenient. No detail was left unturned! (We may have eaten too many Skittles, tho!) Thank you so much, Irene. Your property is so well maintained and there's so much pride of ownership. You can bet we will be staying at the Bear Retreat again! Oh . . . we saw bunches of wild turkey and deer right through the kitchen window1

Relaxing at the Bear Retreat

My Family and I stayed 2 nights at the clean, spacious apartment in Mariposa, CA while visiting Yosemite in July 2016. It was only a 45 minute ride to Yosemite from there. The apartment was set back in the woods a bit and was quiet. We saw deer and wild turkeys walking in the woods in back of the complex. The kitchen was well stocked with spices, bottled water and K-Cups for the Keurig coffee maker. We went to a local grocery store and bought food and stayed in and cooked our meals. There was a grill right outside the room. It was great just eating in then relaxing after long days of hiking and sight-seeing at Yosemite. We would definitely come back here if we plan to visit again and recommend staying here to anyone coming to Yosemite in the future. Irene, Thank you for your great hospitality.

Wonderful Base for Exploring Yosemite

First of all Irene was wonderful to deal with when booking her place, quick to reply to emails, even called us, making the process very easy. The unit was very clean and comfortable for our family of 6 (we needed to use the sofa bed as a bed). Plenty of linens, pillows, towels, hot water, kitchen ware etc. We could have done with an extra foldable dining chair as there was only 4 chairs, and we needed 5 - but this is only a minor issue..... It was very hot when we were there and the AC worked wonderfully. It was a short drive (5 mins top) into town for the grocery store, gas, Visitor information, playground, pool etc, and a 45 min drive into Yosemite. Treats were set out for our arrival (which our kids loved) and when Irene dropped by to check we had settled in and were OK she gave our kids extra candies which of course they loved. Very quick to return reservation deposit also!

AWESOME!!!

My family and I loved this apartment. The area was very quite and the apartment was beautiful! The apartment was very clean and it included everything. I had always stayed at hotels when I travel, but this time there were 6 of us and I couldn't find anything. I booked this place and from the moment I walked in I was one VERY satisfied customer =D I took my parents to show them Yosemite for their first time. They loved it too. They have even told me to make sure I book them this place in the future for get away vacations. The apartment was huge and everything included. We loved the Keurig coffee maker. That's on my future wish list. The kitchen had everything! From plates, cups, spices, pans, and Tupperware in case we needed it. The fridge had ice and water. The decorations were great, we loved the bears by the entrance and every detail from the apartment. We all especially loved the 3D nature picture in the living room ( where did you get it?). The bedrooms were clean and comfortable. The bathroom was very nice and fully supplied with soap, shampoo, and conditioner. The bedrooms were great. The bed sheets and comforters were warm and enough for the season. There were extra pillows incase they were needed. The sofa bed was comfortable. They had a grill too, but we were to tired to BBQ after being in Yosemite all day. I defenitley recommend this place to anyone, especially if you want to relax and enjoy your vacation. I will book this apartment for future trips: you're comfortable in a home setting, everyone isn't scrunched up in one room, and it is located in a nice area. Thank you so much for letting us enjoy our vacation in your beautifully kept apartment =)

Dont let the low price fool you!

This is the second time my husband and I have stayed at the Bear Retreat. The owners - Irene & Art - should be the models of what VRBO owners should do. They are there when you need them, day or night, but leave you alone when you want it. Little things make a big difference when you are visiting a new place: phone number to call if any problems (taped right on the door), clear instructions on how to get to the unit and get in (exact instructions were sent - the unit is clearly marked - and a personalized code is used just for your stay so you get in using your code.) information on using the TV (Information and channel guide were there), and information about the area (brochures and books about the Mariposa and Yosemite areas - and Irene and Art are full of information like where to go hiking with a lot less people and just as beautiful as Yosemite). Things I look for in a place that I want to return to: Clean (the Bear Retreat was not only clean but smelled great too) and comfortable - (beds are great and there is a nice recliner chair and couch in the living room). The Bear Retreat also has little extras - the condo has a true bear motif. It is not just the owners left overs thrown together. They layout and decorations are nice and fun to look at. There is also an amazing number of spices. If you love to cook, you will have fun. And, there is a variety of single-serve coffee flavors to keep everyone in your group happy if they love coffee (or hot chocolate). The only thing to be aware of is that is that you can sometimes hear some noise from upstairs as well as cars driving in on the gravel driveway area. Neither my husband nor I am a light sleeper so it didn't bother us, but if you are very sensitive to noise this might not be the right place for you. However, if you want a nice 2-bedroom to stay in while visiting the Yosemite / Mariposa area - a clean and comfortable place to just relax - this is a great choice.
