Juniper Presents: Explore Dunes, Lake MI, Breweries from Wonderwood
Summary:
Wonderwood Cottage is a woodland retreat with layered interiors, rare privacy, and exquisite design throughout. Two screened porches, a fire pit and winding brick path through the trees create a sense of quiet retreat, while interiors pair warm woods, soft neutrals, and inviting textures with views that blur the line between indoors and out. Just minutes from Lake MI’s shoreline and Sawyer’s markets, breweries, and trails, the setting balances natural escape with easy access to everything local.
The Space:
THE SPACE
Inside, the main gathering space centers around a Tuscany-inspired wood-burning fireplace framed by cathedral ceilings and rich wood floors. French doors open from the living and dining area to a screened porch with a peaceful view of the woods. The kitchen pairs unique character with purpose, offering treetop light and seamless flow to the living spaces. Another set of French doors leads from the family room to a larger screened porch, which opens to a deck with sweeping views ideal for unhurried meals and long conversations.
Each bedroom is thoughtfully designed with its own personality, one bright and cheerful with golden tones and floral art, another grounded by rich colors and a handwoven rug. Downstairs, a playful bunk room features a Murphy bed, slide, and whimsical touches perfect for little adventurers. Soft lighting, crisp linens, and forest-facing windows create a peaceful atmosphere throughout.
MAIN LEVEL
Bedroom 1: Queen-sized bed
Bedroom 2: Queen-sized bed
LOWER LEVEL
Bedroom 3: Murphy Full-sized bed and Twin Bunkbed
The primary bath features a deep soaking tub, a walk-in rainfall shower, and a charming window that connects to the bedroom for natural light and a spa-like feel. Another full bathroom combines updated fixtures with warm, classic details like beadboard paneling and natural wood accents. On the lower level, a full bath and laundry area offer added flexibility, an ideal setup for longer stays and easy transitions after time at the lake.
Outside, the cottage feels fully immersed in the landscape. Two screened porches with peaceful views of the surrounding trees offer shaded spots to relax, rain or shine. Adirondack chairs gather on the covered front porch beside a chiminea, and the wooded setting encourages unhurried walks, stargazing, and evenings by the fire pit. The atmosphere remains quiet and unhurried, shaped by the sound of wind through the trees and the glow of a fire after dark.
Located in the heart of Harbor Country, Wanderwood Cottage places you minutes from some of Southwest Michigan’s most beloved destinations. Spend sunny days along the sugar-sand shores of Warren Dunes State Park, hike forested dune trails with sweeping lake views, or explore the artsy charm of nearby Three Oaks. Wine lovers will appreciate being close to local gems like Dablon, Round Barn, and Tabor Hill, while craft beer enthusiasts can unwind at Greenbush Brewing Co. or grab a bite at local favorites like Fitzgerald’s or Infusco. Farmers markets, antique shops, and boutique galleries line the scenic Red Arrow Highway, and come evening, live music, bonfires, and beach sunsets complete the perfect Michigan day.

We loved this beautiful property. You see the forest through every window, the living space with fireplace is warm and cozy and we appreciated the separate TV room. The beds are wonderfully comfortable and the kitchen is great. The variety of outdoor and screened spaces let you really enjoy the property. Great spot.

We enjoyed our stay at the “Wonderwood Cottage”, Juniper Holiday Home. We felt the inside of the home was accommodating, clean and well maintained. We loved the quietness and the expansion of trees everywhere. I chose this house for many reasons: a family vacation, an anniversary, the location, and it’s size but one of our main focuses was to gather in the outdoor patio areas. The outside was pure disappointment. Upon arrival, it was clear the property had not been properly de-winterized or prepared for guests making it feel unclean and poorly maintained from the start. The wagons provided for hauling firewood an supplies were filled with standing water to the top and with debris, rendering them unusable till they dried. We spent an hour and a half cleaning and removing leaves, dead bugs, dirt, and cobwebs from everywhere trying to make the place half way presentable for the rest of the family’s arrival. A manager from housekeeping (Christina) stopped by while we were cleaning and she told us to stop cleaning and she would have someone to clean on Saturday. It was power washed and blown off the best the nice gentlemen (Allen) could do while we were staying there, he was there all afternoon into the evening while we were vacationing. Unfortunately, that did not help us in the moment, because all carpet and furniture was too wet for normal use.Overall outside did not meet expectations, did not look like pictures.

Dear Patty,
Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback, and thank you for choosing Wonderwood Cottage for your family's anniversary trip. We're glad the home itself, the quiet setting, and the surrounding trees lived up to what drew you here.
That said, we owe you an apology. The property should have been fully guest-ready the moment you arrived, and it wasn't. You shouldn't have spent the start of your vacation cleaning, working around wet furnishings, or dealing with a shower without hot water and a thermostat that wouldn't hold temperature. Having our team address these things during your stay only added to the disruption, and that's on us, not something you should have had to navigate on your anniversary.
We've taken your feedback seriously and are making changes: a mandatory pre-arrival inspection covering interior cleanliness, the grounds and firewood equipment, and a full test of hot water and HVAC at every point before any guest checks in. We're also reviewing our listing so that details like garage parking accurately reflect what's available.
We very much hope we made this right.
Warm regards,
The Juniper Holiday Home Team
We loved our stay here. A beautiful serene setting. SO peaceful. Love the house - three bedrooms each with their own bath. Our grandkids loved the yard with swing and play house with slide. The screened in porch is awesome. And the front porch was a favorite spot on the porch swing. We saw deer regularly, which excited the grandkids. 7 years & 5. SO many extras provided too! TP, paper towel, salt & pepper, dish washer pods, even Q tips in the bathrooms. I definitely recommend this property. We brought along my daughter and son-in-law and two kids. And my 92 year old mother. 7 of us on this trip. Only downside is the climb up either the steps or brick path. Unloading was challenging but packing up was easier. Thankfully my Mom gets around well and was able to navigate the hill ok. We definitely got our exercise. Oh almost forgot, the fire pit is awesome. We love bon fires. Had one each evening. Wood is provided and there was plenty of kindling that was fun to gather. Loved our stay and the State Park Beach is literally 5 minutes by car.
