About this property

Ojai Fish Camp at Rancho Grande

Founded in 1875 this Old West ranch allows guests to enjoy comfortable living in the Forest. Close to town but with no neighbors for miles. Hike forest trails with access from the property, a private, sustainable off the grid getaway. The Ranch has two spring fed ponds and a creek running through it. Interact with a wide variety of farm animals and experience abundant wildlife. Guests get a jeep to use to explore the majestic hills and the scenic 200-acre grounds. Choose between two, large fully furnished luxury tents. Howard Creek (this listing) and Fish Camp (separately listed on AirBnB). Tents include one king bed and up to 3 cots for extra guests. Rancho Grande also lists a two-bedroom cabin on AirBnB called the Ojai Cowboy Cabin. Tents include one king bed and up to 3 cots for extra guests. Tents have powerful lithium battery operated lights and a screened in porch area. Private locked modern bathrooms contain hot and cold water and showers. They are close to the tents. Your stay also includes complete access to our fully equipped commercial kitchen. In the winter the tents are heated by a 30,000 BTU propane heater. Our guests have told us that the heating source we have provide sufficient warmth o keep them comfortable during cold nights. Guests have full access to the entire ranch including the common grand room with piano, pool table, 80 inch tv, and library; and the large screened in porch with fireplace on the pond with commercial grade kitchen. Guest can pick eggs from the chicken coup and salad from commercial greenhouse (Very Seasonal). Guest can enjoy canoeing or paddleboat activities in the pond. They can also swim or fish for catfish and blue gill. Sporting activates include a basketball court and a major league size baseball field. The ranch has wood burning fire pits for cooking meals and smores. People enjoy stargazing the black night sky and hiking in the many trails directly on the ranch and the surrounding mountains on the Nordhoff Ridge Trail, Howard Creek Trail or Piedra Blanca Trail. For an extra fee, guests can always enjoy a horseback ride and with advance notice, massage and facial services and yoga classes can sometimes be arranged. Always on site and available to answer any questions about the property’s history or our animals. Happy to maintain all confidences and leave you to yourself and be there only if needed. Rancho Grande is in the forest. That means instead of other people and houses and cars and traffic you are alone with trees and streams and mountains and animals that call the forest their home. We provide guest with their own 4 wheel drive motor vehicle to get around the ranch. No food is provided. Please be sure and bring enough food for your entire stay so you do not have to leave the property. It's possible at times to order food from town from a messenger service for a fee starting at 50 dollars and up depending on how much and where you want him to pick up from. Please make arrangements directly by call or message. Ask us for the phone number if you want as we are not allowed to post it to Airbnb's site. Please for privacy of all guests do not invite additional friends and family for ranch visits unless pre-approved or you have reserved the entire Ranch with all three spaces taken. We give our guests full access to all our animals to enjoy and interact with. Please use common sense and if not experienced ask for help. Please watch kids 5 and under with the animals at all times, especially the small ones, as they do not always understand the need for comfort and safety of all living things.
