About this property
Cozy Cottage with Pool, Sauna and A/C
A peaceful, wooded getaway, the property has two guest cottages, the cozy 1BR/1BA main cottage with wraparound deck, potbelly gas stove, high speed wi-fi, and fully equipped kitchen. And at a short distance, the charming casita houses the second bedroom with its own sun deck but no bathroom.
15 mins from Nevada City, the cabin is central to many of the area’s best swimming holes, hiking and biking trails.
The main cottage is small but mighty! You walk in off the front porch to the living area, organized around the fireplace (gas-powered, easy to operate) and comfy modern couch. This faces the kitchen, which is equipped with a 5-burner gas stove and oven, a prep counter that turns into bar seating for 4 people, a full-size fridge, and microwave. We’ve got the coffee situation dialed in (ceramic cone or french press) and most all cooking basics handled.
Off the kitchen you’ll find the only bathroom on the property — with a tub/shower, toilet, and sink. The next door opens into the main bedroom, with a wrought-iron queen bed frame and view onto the garden’s old-growth olive trees.
The kitchen also accesses a back deck, with gorgeous views west to the ridge line. Perfect for morning meditation and/or quiet coffee time, boisterous dinners, sunset cocktails, and evening card or board games — we’ve got those, too!
A 20-second walk across the yard from the cottage's front deck, is the additional bedroom dubbed 'the casita'. Remodeled by the artist-owner, the casita houses a custom-built platform queen-sized bed, and small sink for daily ablutions. The space gets great light, thanks to many windows and glass doors. A small space heater helps this well-insulated tiny home get toasty quick in the winter, while the overhead fan and large windows allow it to cool in the summer.
A highlight of the property is the soaking pool and sauna! About 4 feet deep, the small, in-ground pool is ideal for languid afternoons or cooling off after a hike. If you want the full spa experience, you can fire up the rustic wood-fired sauna (if interested, please ask the host for guidance on how to use). The sauna pairs perfectly with the pool as a cold plunge during the colder months. Surrounded by decks, this is a great spot to take in the property views while relaxing in a lounger. There is also an adjacent fire pit that guests are welcome to use outside of dry season (December–April) .
Guests have sole access to the property during their stay.
You are free to wander the grounds and check out the variety of fruit trees and native plants. There are unpaved pathways between the driveway, cottage, and casita. The terrain isn’t extreme, but it is uneven and could be challenging for guests with mobility issues. This property is not ideal for elderly guests.
Kids are absolutely permitted, but please keep in mind that the pool, uneven terrain, minimal handrails, and lack of paved pathways require close supervision of young children.
There is a third building on the property — a barn-like studio space — that is currently a work-in-progress and closed to guests.
*The cabin is equipped with Starlink satellite wi-fi.
* Laundry: Washer and dryer are out back of the main cabin in an attached shed.
* Though the landscape is mowed and tended to with great care, the property has wild sections. If you are bringing a pet you should not be surprised to find burrs and foxtails – particularly in summer.
* There is a friendly dog named Winnie who lives next door and knows her way onto the property. Feel free to greet her but please do NOT let her inside. Be aware that wildlife, including skunks, deer, raccoons, foxes, and a variety of birds also regularly make their way onto and through the property.
* Grass Valley/ Nevada City are high wildfire risk areas. Please exercise extreme caution with outdoor fires during your time in the area.
We hope you enjoy this lovingly reimagined artists’ retreat / quiet, river-adjacent getaway.
