About this property

Cartecay Riverfront A-Frame - Private River Access, Tubing, Fishing & Fire Pit

"We were greeted by the peaceful sounds of the river and it immediately set the tone for a relaxing weekend." That's how one guest described arriving at The Frame, our restored A-Frame on a private stretch of the Cartecay River in Ellijay, Georgia. Less a riverfront cabin than a river you get to live on: coffee on the deck to the sound of the rapids, an afternoon float that ends back at the cabin, deer along the far bank. Two miles to the apple orchards, about seventy from Atlanta.

THE SPACE

Unlike mountain cabins that just offer river access, The Frame was built around the river itself. Our stretch of the Cartecay sits beyond the public tubing take-outs, so the water stays quiet, and the house is positioned to keep the river in view from nearly every room, from the floor-to-ceiling windows to the decks. One guest called it "a special spot to renew," and most days here bear that out: hours by the water, deer and river otters on the bank, the sound of the rapids running underneath all of it.

Inside, authentic mountain character meets a lighter mid-century touch. A soaring floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace, laid up by local craftsmen, anchors the living room, with the restored chef's kitchen, premium bedding, and curated details giving the home what one guest described as "a mountain cabin with a boutique hotel feel." The layout runs over three levels, with the third-floor loft tucked into the treetops.

Outside is where The Frame earns its reputation. The covered deck runs along the tree line with river-facing seating and a smart TV, and steps down the bank the fire pit sits ringed with Adirondack chairs at the edge of the water. A gas grill and a Big Green Egg handle the cooking. Walk five minutes upstream, put in, and float right back to the cabin, past a shallow, sandy landing where kids can wade.

GOOD TO KNOW

•The home runs on a mountain spring and well system. The water is tested and safe to drink, though it tastes different from city water. We keep a filled Brita in the fridge and usually some bottled water on hand, but it is never a bad idea to bring a few extra bottles.
•About 25 steps lead down from the parking area to the cabin. Take your time and use the railing, and pack in a few small trips when you unload.
•Please use caution near the river. It is our favorite part of The Frame, but the rocks can be slippery and there is a current, so keep an eye on children and anyone less steady on their feet.

A LONGER DAY ON THE RIVER

For a bigger adventure, Cartecay River Experience runs tubing, kayaking, and rafting just minutes from the cabin. Take the Up River route for a longer scenic float back toward Ellijay, or the Down River route for a shorter, relaxed trip that suits families. They provide all equipment and shuttle transportation. Reserve ahead on summer weekends, slots fill quickly.
