A quiet slice of heaven

Property was great and the property managers were super responsive! When your teenager asks to make this your new annual vacation spot you know it’s a winner! Would stay here again!

Nice place to get away

Nice cabin, owners really nice, disappointed no screened in cabana dockside as advertised, ice machine just collecting pine needles, indoor freezer took care of ice needs, but think vrbo website should be updated to reflect actual setting and amenities. All in all great place to relax, enjoy nature, Just enjoy lake setting.

Beautiful location

Dark Bay is a beautiful location, perfect for swimming off the dock, lazing on a floating chair, drink in hand, enjoying the clean, refreshing Lake George water. Our family ( ages 6-70 all enjoyed our stay at Camp Sunshine. The trolley was especially helpful for Granny and Pops as our knees and hips are showing their age!! I’d highly recommend this house as a vacation rental. The owner, Mike, was responsive to calls when we had questions.

Great place to stay

This property is in a great location. A quiet cove that allows for easy swimming or just floating around. The house has everything that you need. The ice machine was an added bonus. Ticonderoga is about 20 minutes away. It has a Walmart, Walgreens, Dunkin' Donuts, a laundrymat and several restaurants. Be sure to go to Lake Lucerne to see the roses. It's great family fun! Thanks to the hosts for thinking about everything a vacationer will need! Hosts were easy to communicate with.

Beautiful Family Trip

We stayed in Camp Sunshine for a week over the Labor Day holiday. The pictures certainly do not do this place justice! Waking up to a beautiful lake view and even better sunsets cannot be beat. We took the hillavator down to the lake every day and enjoyed fishing, swimming, kayaking and paddle boating. Hiking up the nature preserve at sunset is also a must do for the view. There's a picnic table you can bring a snack (or a drink) and watch the sunset perfectly. The house itself was clean and plenty of space for a family to enjoy. We would go certainly go back here if the opportunity came. Thank you Camp Sunshine for a fantastic week!

Many Cool Bells and Whistles

We had an excellent time here. I would definitely stay at this property again! Dark bay has super clear water which is accessible from the properties dock and a short ride down the hill on the trolley. The bay was pretty private as well with neighbors having a healthy distance from the property. The northeast corner of the lake is quiet compared to the southern part of the lake which is exactly what we were looking for. Right across the street lies a nature preserve with accessible hiking trails. The home was spacious enough for six adults to stay together for a week without getting in each other's way. All of the typical amenities for a camp were present including a brand new grill. Boat rental made our stay even more fun and was an excellent convenience. There is also a kayak and canoe which were in great condition. The surrounding area was superb for kayaking and fishing. The owner was responsive to all of our inquiries and was able to answer all of our questions regarding the property and the surrounding area.

The property was not in good condition

The location of the property is great, and the lake is gorgeous, but the house is under renovations and not in “ready to rent” condition. The main floor has been mostly updated and it was fine, but there was a mess of junk and building materials right outside the house, the laundry area was not much more than a dirty crawl space under the house. The full bath was in decent shape but very small with a tiny corner shower and would not work for a larger person. The lower level is a completely separate entrance and not accessible without going outside. It’s a decent space with bunks, but with it being so separate, it wouldn’t work for young kids. The hill trolley was great, and it was a huge help getting things up and down to/from the lake. The ice maker advertised in the listing was not functional. The owner was very nice and seems to have big plans for renovations, but as of right now, the property doesn’t live up to the listing.

Camp Poopshine - Don't stay here!!!

Pros: This property is in an incredible location: a quiet cove with beautiful views. Great doc for boats and use of funicular to the lake and overall such potential. Check in was easy, owner met us at the home and we were excited for our stay. However, things went downhill quickly. Cons: Unfortunately, the septic system is faulty and for the first 4 days of our stay, the odor of septic was so awful, we didn't want to use bathroom or even stay in the house. The owner did respond promptly to our request and had it pumped the following day- but we didn't (and still don't) understand how the smell became so awful literally within a few hours of checking in. We were also puzzled as air fresheners were in abundance throughout the house- indicating the owners were very, very aware of the smell. As stated, septic was pumped out on Wednesday but who wants to deal with pumping of a septic tank on their vacation???? Property was dirty and false advertised- used ash trays, random furniture that took up space without purpose and clutter all around the property- trash, awful porch furniture in need of replacing -covered by make-shift black, ripped garbage bags. Property only sleeps 4, not 6, as the downstairs area was gross and a sad excuse for bedrooms. (The owner even stated as much when she was showing us around upon arrival!) Contacted owner for a refund but were denied. Do yourself a favor: DON'T STAY HERE. Unless you like the smell of septic.

Not as Advertised

The lake view off the deck was beautiful, and the water was amazing as Lake George water is - However the cabin and stay : 24 Ft Pontoon Boat WAS falsely Advertised as part of the amenities. I even called two months prior to our stay and specifically asked about the 24 ft pontoon boat and was told - " Oh don't worry all that will be explained to you when you get there " - IF the boat was never part of the rental - why was it not disclosed then ? The pontoon boat remained as an amenity on the site - False Advertising ! The blankets provided were full of mouse droppings & bugs. The dishes and stove were filthy. The bathrooms were not clean. A dead mouse was left in a snap trap, along with some kind of 'poop' under the bed. There were more than 30 air fresheners & moth ball hangers in the cabin. The sewer was pumped while we were eating breakfast one day- not pleasant. And watch out for the humungous wolf spiders - one came out while we were eating - had to be 4 inches with his legs ! Overall I cannot recommend this - when I explained our concerns to the owner no response other than " well the boat has not been offered for three years now !" First telling me it was wrecked in a hurricane - then later telling us it was removed due to renters improper use and damage to the boat. There was no offer of compensation due to our experience. In fact the contract makes clear if you get there - you do not get your money back - no real concern for the guests experience.

Sunshine Everyday @ CAMP SUNSHINE

Well first we would like to thank Mike and Dee-Ann for making our stay comfortable and fun. When we first booked we were a bit skeptical since the pictures were alittle rough, but we contacted Mike and spoke with him and he told us he had just brought property and was making upgrades so thru the months we would look at new pictures posted and see all the improvements made...Well it was such a great time all amenities were right there you need go anywhere else..we had our own little cove, which was great for swimming, kayaking, boating, fishing, canoeing and even rock jumping.and wait even a trolley and fish house right down by the lake that had everything you could need which made it nice to go down to the lake and never have to go back up to main house till dark!!! The trolley or as we named it the chariot was a great way to get up and down to lake and back without it the walk(especially when hot) would have been rough, it is another wonderful feature of this vacation home. The main house was decorated very nicely with all the lake accents made it so homey. The bedding and towels were plentiful...Wood was there for the great fire pit...which we really enjoyed!!! The only downfall (and we made it work) was the 2 bedrooms were not attached to main house but was close enough...Since as a family we all like being together even when time for bed, especially with little ones...But once we left and I spoke with Dee-Ann she told me about her ideas to connect rooms which sounds great and I think might have sealed the deal for another visit next year to CAMP SUNSHINE...Weather was hot at this time of year but plenty of fans and 2 bedrooms had air conditioning so very comfortable. Kitchen was fully stocked plenty of pots, pans dishes etc....Another great feature a industrial size ice maker great feature .....Laundry room little rough but you know what we did not care washer and dryer worked great.... Thank you again for making this family vacation another great memory for us....Even with a monumental storm....that truly made it an adventure!!!!!

Love Lake George but not this property.

Inexperienced owner met us with a beer in his hand and it wasn't his first one. Although improvements had been made inside the cabin the outside was messy. They need to invest in some good mattress pads because the beds are hard as a rock. Small 1 bathroom that wasn't exactly clean, you need to clean the bottom right side of the toilet. Owner advertised the property as having flat screen televisions and internet service. Neither of them worked even though there was a satellite dish the owner was too cheap to pay for the service. He told us we didn't need tv. The location is far from ideal, no attractions near by with very few stores. The trolley down to the lake was convenient because the cabin sits on a steep hill that you can't walk down to the water. We would not rent from this owner again.

Why they chose this property

This camp was a gem waiting to be polished. Our intention is to make it over, a little at a time, while retaining its adirondack charm.

What makes this property unique

This camp is in a protected bay on the upper east side of Lake George. Awesome sunsets can be seen from this side of the Lake providing a distinct advantage over the west side camps that become overcome by mountain shadows hours before this location. A commercial icemaker to help fill coolers, and a pontoon boat.

We have a "hill trolley" that takes you down to the water on occasion when walking is not of interest. There you will find docks with a fully featured lakeside cabana.
