Vail Village - Private Hot Tub, Game Room & Prestigious Forest Road Location
Welcome to The Ark at Vail, one of Vail's first vacation homes and the legacy of Vail's founding families. This private ski-in / ski out / walk to lift residence provides a true mountain experience with views of Gore Range mountains and evergreen trees. Surrounded by newer mansions worth tens of millions of dollars, this older home offers an exceptional location for a relatively modest price. The Ark at Vail is an older home that has begun to benefit from owner investments. The kitchen, dining, and living area were renovated in 2022, and the lower living room was updated in 2023. The home has nice beds and linens, a spacious & comfortable main living room with vaulted ceilings and a lower living room that provides your group with space to spread out. There are plenty of bedrooms for a large group, and customizable sleeping arrangements too. All 4 of the King beds in this home can be split into Twin XL beds for groups with singles rather than couples. The 5th bedorom has a Queen bed plus 2 Twins. So, whether your group has 5 couples, 11 singles, or some mix, the bed setup of this home will make sure everyone is comfortable! While the bathrooms in this home have not yet been updated, they are functional, and help make this home a relatively affordable property in one of the best locations that Vail has to offer.
The location: This is very special place to stay! In ski season, some guests will be able to ski in and out, to and from the property, depending upon skier ability level, and snow conditions. More on that in a moment. When you rent this home, you'll have a private home surrounded by forest, yet all the shopping, dining, nightlife, and activities of Vail Village will be a short walk from your door. It is only about 180 meters from the home, at 16 Forest Road, down to Mill Creek Road. From there, it is only about 220 meters, and mostly flat, to Gondola One and the heart of Vail Village. Follow Vail Road insted of Mill Creek Road and you'll find yourself in the heart of Vail's pedestrian village. With little or no cars, walking around Vail Village is such a great experience. Now for the ski in ski out access. The beginner level ski trail "Vail Village Catwalk" is adjacent to this home and it's lot. From that ski trail, a skier would ski down through the trees and would be able to ski right onto the back deck, off the living room. On a powder day, there's no better way to come home, than through this untracked private land. That said, skiing from the catwalk trail through the back yard would require an intermediate to advanced skier abiltiy level. If you stop on the Vail Village Catwalk trail, above the home, look down, and don't think you're up to it, then you simply continue down the trail to ski down towards Gondola One and make the short walk back to the home. This is what beginner level skiers will do. Intermediate skiers can take a look and judge for themselves. Regardless of ability level, most guests will simply walk down the hill to Gondola One. It's so easy! That said, you could choose to ski out. From the back deck, you would need to hike up the hill in the back yard for about 20 meters. Then you could put on your skis and traverse across through the trees and down to Gondola One. Again, this would be for intermediate to advanced skiers.
Whether it be an alpine getaway, a family reunion get together, or an outing with friends competing together in their favorite sport, this home is for you. Your group will have a memorable retreat or family vacation in this historic architectural gem, designed by Architect and Vail Founder Fitzhugh Scott. This is a property that the U.S. Ski Team has called its home many times, and where countless mountain enthusiasts have vacationed. Go back in time to one of Vail's original homes. This house is a rare opportunity to experience a piece of Vail history. You'll love the location, find comfort in the living areas and bedrooms, and really appreciate the charm.

For normal, respectful groups, we are sorry that these statements and measures are necessary. Security cameras and noise monitoring devices are an example and demonstration that the property's owners are taking steps to ensure the home remains available for rental, and in good condition, for your benefit. Thank you for the positive review Christopher! We are pleased to hear you loved the location and size of our property. It makes our team so happy to know that another guest had a great trip.
This is an older home in Vail. The location is nice: close to vail village and the slopes. The ski in and ski out description is accurate. It’s a rather steep slope from ski slopes to back door of property so not all will be able to ski in and climbing out takes some effort.

We’re glad to hear our location is appreciated! Our home offers true ski-in/ski-out access, which is a rare feature in Vail. Guests should note that the slope from the lifts to the back door is on the steeper side, so skiing in is easy, but climbing back up requires a bit of effort. This property is perfect for those looking for convenient access to Vail Village and the slopes while enjoying a classic mountain home. Our guest services line can be reached 24/7 should you need anything!

Great Location, building a bit tired,
Amazing location in a historic building. Unfortunately the number of beds changed without notice between when we booked and when we arrived, so someone had to sleep on the couch - just check this before arriving.
Great layout for multiple groups.

Thank you for highlighting the home’s amazing location and great layout for groups. Prior to this stay, the property had been thoughtfully renovated, and the bedding arrangements had been updated to better suit guest comfort and space. We apologize this had not been communicated! Amazing location! A true Vail jewel!!
Location location location! This house is great! Updated kitchen! Ski back to house at the end of the day! Easy walk to the village. Nostalgic feel! Would rent again. Owners really attentive to every need and very responsive!
As Advertised - Fantastic Location and Comfortable
Great old house in the ideal location. Professionally managed and equiped. Do your self a favor and use the humidifiers provided.
Our family of eight, including infants, had a great time.
Thank you. TB
A two minute walk downhill to Gondola One and Heart of Vail Village. If your a strong Blue skier/rider, you can ski in. The home is one of the originals in Vail and the home can be seen on all the trail maps on the mountain. But is is old, it feels old and other than a very nice kitchen, is not at all updated. Parking is on the street so you must have good snow tires/4x4/ a shovel or you may get stuck. Over all, i would consider renting this place again.
This was our first time staying at this home, but our 5th year coming to Vail for our annual friends ski trip. The home is very well laid out with two beds and two baths up, one bed and bath on the main level and a second living room and two beds with two baths down. The Mountain Views from the home are gorgeous and the remodeled kitchen a big plus for the home. While the bathrooms are dated as indicated, they were perfectly fine and we all loved the home for our trip and are booking again for next year! The home is ‘ski-in’ but it’s tricky, so be a strong intermediate or expert as it suggests. We were adventurous and hiked back up the hill to ski out, but that is a challenge. It’s right off of the main run to Gondola One and so close to town, but feels very private. A great value for Vail and definitely recommend to others.

The Arc at Vail
Property is as described. We had a lovely time staying at the Arc at Vail. It is a piece of Vail history, with an outstanding location and an affordable price. We were very comfortable here, as the 5 bedrooms fit our family nicely. Plenty of bathrooms also. We were very thankful for the abundant firewood provided, as well as the sleds for the hill out back, excellent wifi coverage, cable tv, well stocked kitchen, and absolutely beautiful scenery. The house is dated, and the recliners do not recline, but that was insignificant. Please be aware the steps up to the house are really no big deal. Easily managed. Plenty of parking too. Most of our time was spent on the slopes and dining in the village. Thanks so much to the owners for their accessibility and prompt responses to my messages. We look forward to staying here again. We LOVE Vail.

This home was great. Lots of room for us to relax and the location was superb. We had a great time with friends and family. Can’t beat those mountains!
Communication with the management/owners was solid; they answered our questions right away and were a pleasure to work with. The house was accurately depicted in the photos and description. The house was exactly what we wanted for our trip! Location, size, functionality. The hot tub was great (The pictures don’t do it justice).
The kitchen was very recently updated.

Issues with old house overshadowed great location
Would have been great but for serious issues with an old house that resulted in a large refund. Heat did not work and even when "fixed" not all rooms had heat and temperature was hard to control. Pipe burst caused flood and left basement (2 bedrooms) unusable for most of the trip. Management company was responsive, worked with us to try to resolve issues, and agreed to generous refund.
Positives: great location: 5-ish minute walk to Vail Village/Gondola (though we couldn't find reasonable ski-in ski-out path); good for a large gathering: main living room has a great fireplace and is a good space for hanging out with a large group; many bathrooms; spacious hot tub; 5 bedrooms as described in posting.

Andrew arrived late and reported a lack of heat. The boiler had shut down due to a fault. When reset (by Andrew), the fault was overridden and heat was restored, but this caused a pipe to leak (not burst), and the water did not present itself until after everyone went to sleep. After awaking to wet floors on the lower level, a plumber was immediate dispatched and isolated the leaky pipe immediately. The isolation of the leaky pipe caused a lack of heat only in the living room, which has a large wood burning fireplace. The lower level floors were dried out. As Andrew as noted, we were responsive and resolved issues as quickly as possible. The boiler system is not old, but was inspected before the winter season began and was found to be in good condition. The issue was not something that could have been predicted, but it was dealt with quickly and efficiently. The ski in ski out is illustrated in the photo gallery. Intermediate to experts can ski in literally right onto the back deck and ski out via a short set of steps up then traverse sideways through the trees. Fortunately for beginner to intermediate skiers, or early / late ski season visitors, and as Andrew has noted, the location and short walk between the home and the Gondola quite the positive feature.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Ark. Walks into the village were easy and the house is very roomy and can accommodate a variety of bedroom setups. The in home jacuzzi was a major plus. As far as privacy, location and size, it's hard to beat. Traveled up with a few guys to do three days of skiing and we all loved it.
Spectacular property close to everything in Vail Village!
We were two families with kids age 4-15 from Florida. We have been to Vail several times and this is one of our favorite properties we’ve stayed in. Convenient walking location to Gondola one and all the restaurants and shopping of the village. The house was clean and very well equipped. Our group of 9 had plenty of space and it was such a beautiful, cozy place for us to come back to after a day on the slopes. The kids loved the hot tub and the game room. We had a fire every night. The beds are comfortable and the views outside the window were a winter wonderland. I loved the history of the house, one of the original houses built in Vail still owned by the same family. Very well maintained.
Thanks for having us!
This house was perfect for our family vacation. Lots of space for us and the kids and you can't beat the location just outside of Vail Village. The house is definitely old but has a lot of history on the walls and the brand new kitchen was great. The hot tub could use an update/replacement and there were some loose screws/nails on the deck but otherwise no significant complaints. Booking again next year!
Place was as advertised, great location, and fit our guys trip needs perfectly.
