About this property
Waterfront, beautiful home, breathless sunsets on Prudence Island
This is a one of kind custom designed island home with unobstructed waterfront in a very private setting.
The waterfront home has a large open great room with gourmet kitchen, dining area, and family room, with cathedral ceilings. The large front deck has spectacular sunsets views. There are 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom on the first floor.
The second floor has a full master suite with private waterview deck! The master bathroom is like no other on the island. Enjoy a relaxing bath in the large soaking tub overlooking the ocean.
You can enjoy family time on the deck, huge front manicured lawn, game of Horseshoes and private access to the water (note, we are on a rocky shoreline, vs. on a beach). Access to miles of trails, and nearby beaches just minutes away.
Prudence Island is a hidden gem! It's a unique welcoming jewel - scenic and secluded - serenity and the slow pace of the Island are from a simpler time and place. The island sits in Narragansett Bay and is accessible by a short 25-minute ferry ride which docks in Bristol, RI. It's a small island full of nature, relaxation and community. Everyone waves to each other; it's just the Prudence way. Summers are full of community activities such as the Annual Fourth of July Parade, Friday Night Bingo, Farnum Farm Ice Cream Social, Fireman's Fair, Kids Night, Wine and Paint, Craft Fairs and much more. Take part in whatever you like.
Prudence is full of history, from Roger Williams to American Revolution to WWII. In World War II, the U.S. Navy established an ammunition depot on the 400 acres southernmost part of the island. In 1972, the Navy turned the base over to the state of Rhode Island, leaving bunkers, roads, and a large deep-water pier. Make sure to visit the Prudence Island Museum, which has a different theme every summer and take part in their walking tour. Prudence has an impressive trail network to historical sites and beaches.
The Narragansett Bay Research Reserve is based on Prudence Island & the headquarters is located in the Lab and Learning Center on the south end of Prudence. During the summer months, the Reserve's "Estuary Ed Shed" is open for visitors. It is also located on the south end of the island at the T-Wharf. The Ed Shed is staffed by seasonal naturalists and has aquarium tanks as well as a touch tank filled with local marine life from the Bay.
There is a small convenience store on Prudence which stocks necessities. There are no restaurants or bars on the island. If you want to go out for a night, take the ferry to Bristol water taxi, or a private vessel.
The only thing you need to bring is your food and linens. We also recommend water shoes for the beach - some beaches are rocky. There are also plenty of opportunities to kayak, bicycle, walk, hike, fish, read and much more.
