Kaibab forest family getaway: private feel, hiking trails, wood stove, sleeps 12

Private, peaceful, and surrounded by the Kaibab National Forest on three sides at 7,500 ft — yet only about 30 minutes to Flagstaff and 20 to Williams, and just over an hour to the Grand Canyon and Sedona. A hiking trailhead starts right at the front door, and deer wander through the yard regularly. This is the home base guests return to year after year.

THE LAYOUT: 4 bedrooms plus a bonus Route 66 room. The base rate covers up to 8 guests, and we can comfortably sleep up to 12 (a small per-person fee applies for guests 9–12). Downstairs: a king master with jetted tub and walk-in shower, and the Route 66 room — a cozy den with a TV, board games, and a queen futon for movie nights or extra sleepers. Upstairs: the Red Bedroom (queen, with a built-in library), the Twin Room (three twin beds, one with a pull-out trundle), and the Bunk Room, which hides a secret loft in the closet that kids discover every single time.

SLEEPING FOR LARGER GROUPS: Between the king, queen, three twins, trundle, twin-over-double bunk, and queen futon, there's a real bed for everyone, up to 12.

LIVING & KITCHEN: An open great room with a Vermont Castings wood stove (firewood provided), a spinning armchair guests always mention, and doors to the back deck. The fully stocked kitchen has newer appliances, granite counters, and a dining table for 8+ with forest views — you'll likely spot wildlife over breakfast.

OUTSIDE: Wrap-around porch, big back deck with BBQ, plus a hammock, swing, slackline, frisbee golf, and horseshoes. High-speed Starlink internet throughout. Family extras include a pack-n-play, crib mattress, high chair, and baby gate.

A couple of notes: there are three security cameras covering the driveway only, and cooling is a living-room window A/C unit plus fans (at 7,500 ft it's rarely needed).
