My wife and I had a great time staying here with a couple of friends. The house was in walking distance of downtown and an easy bike ride to the wineries. The owners were very responsive and easy to work with!
We really enjoyed our stay here with 2 friends and their pup! Check in/out was super easy, the kitchen was well equipped for cooking most of our meals, and the back patio was perfect for coffee in the morning. While most of the wineries are too far to walk the proximity to town was perfect. This is a great rental for a couple (or 2) or a small family. We'd definitely stay again :)
We loved our stay! The home is comfortable and clean, the yard is very lovely and relaxing! Centrally located in Palisade, can walk to downtown area. Gary and Susan were awesome to work/communicate with. Not a bad thing to say, we hope to return and stay again soon.
Very nice 1912 property. It has that antique vintage look inside. Clean and kept up well. My wife absolutely loved everything from the inside and the outside yard. Glad we stayed. Within walking distance to the downtown area and a short drive to the peach orchards. Great place.
We had a wonderful stay, the place is charming and was a perfect home base for our trip to palisade. The hosts great notes on the house and beautiful garden ensured we found everything we needed and had no issues. We really appreciated the old-house details and walking distance to restaurants and stuff on the other side of the train tracks. The train was loud but not too often. Thanks Susan and Gary for a great visit

As Advertised
We stayed at this property in November for a bike weekend. The property is pretty much as advertised. A few pros/cons:
Pros:
1) Owner was quick to respond and pleasant to talk to.
2) Walking distance to downtown Palisade and Peach Street (distillery, winery, brewery).
3) Clean.
4) Very pretty fenced in yard makes it a great property for dogs.
5) Quiet neighborhood with easy parking.
Cons:
1) Close to train tracks (as most downtown Palisade properties are). Train goes through a couple times a night. If you are a light sleeper, this could be a problem.
2) As stated in the description, this home does not have a shower (just a tub). This was more of an inconvenience than we thought (mostly because it was hard not to spray water everywhere).
3) Although clean, the home has a very distinctive odor (not pleasant).
4) After cleaning and additional insurance fees, this home is quite expensive in comparison to other properties we have stayed in (in the Palisade and Fruita area).
Although we enjoyed our time in Palisade, we likely will not return to this property due to the cons listed above.

A little to rustic
It’s a great location and cute place, but maybe a little to simple. Susan has been very timely on her responses and we were able to check in a little early too. The yard and garden are beautiful, but would be nice if there was an actual grill instead of an electric George Foreman grill. It was very loud as previously listed but even with earbuds and white noise being right next to the train tracks, dogs howling every morning by 7am and street racing a couple late nights it was to much. The bath with a hand held spray was more difficult to wrangle so not being able to actually shower was unfortunate.
I got sick while up there so not having a tv or internet was hard especially being sick and being woken up throughout the night from the train or other noises. It took 2 weeks to get our deposit back after I was told at one week (after I followed up) it would be refunded that day, so that’s a bummer.
We had great time here. Easily walked to the park, the closets restaurants and downtown etc. The place was charming and clean. Great home base to explore and relax when we returned. A few quick questions were quickly answered and we had no issues while we were there. Would stay again for sure!!
Nice house in a nice neighborhood in great location. I was able to bring my dog who enjoyed the beautiful fenced yard with great green grass. I would recommend this home to family and individuals looking for a comfortable stay in a great location.
We really enjoyed our stay at the White Lavender Cottage! It is a really cute place in the most idyllic location. We walked to downtown palisade every day, to rent bikes and for dinner/drinks. The kitchen has all the amenities, and the front porch and back patio are perfect for morning coffee. It was a wonderful little getaway!
FYI there is no wifi, a very small TV, only a tub and very near the train tracks.
This is a lovely, charming property. We adore staying here. The home is close to the town center; its an easy walk to everything.
The yard is a wonderful place to relax in. Susan is a great hostess!
The yard was amazing and perfect for relaxing with some local peaches and mead and the dogs. It's very clean and comfortable. There isn't WiFi, which isn't a big deal, but it wasn't clear from the listing. You can walk right downtown to lots of local restaurants and shops and vineyards and can bike to even more! I would definitely visit this home again :)
My two girl friends and I loved this house! Flowers everywhere outside and a sweet note about them from the owners. This house was super historical. It transports you back to 1912! We had a great time as we rode bikes to different wineries and then came back home where I played some tunes on the piano for my friends!
The home was a very comfortable place to stay. It was very apparent the owners have put their heart and soul into this place. We especially enjoyed the beautiful private fenced in yard with our dog and the 1912 vintage vibe of the home. We did not miss having WIFI one bit. And the claw foot tub with the handheld shower was a welcome adventure. (Very easy to use) The owners, Susan and Gary, were also very welcoming and accommodating with any issues or questions we had. We plan on staying here again and highly recommend this place
This home is a beautifully maintained older home in a perfect location for Palisade stays. The owners were easy to communicate with and have clearly spent a great deal of energy, love and care to keep this property very close to its original state.
Having SAID that, there is no wi-fi and the shower situation is far from ideal. It's impossible not to spray water everywhere in the bathroom while using the hand held water sprayer. This must be a known issue as there are 4 bathmats provided in the room. I scanned all the reviews after staying to see how I could have missed such a significant detail. Some people don't seem to mind, while others seem pretty frustrated. I'm in the latter camp, honestly. I get that the actual details of the listing do not promise a normal shower, but I think most people assume that feature will be there, and the description does not help to make that obvious.
I think a simple addition of wi-fi, a shower stand and curtain would go MILES to make this experience enjoyable for all without the inconveniences. Those who are looking to travel back in time can opt out of the wi-fi and spray themselves in the face if they so choose.
This was a perfect place to stay for a weekend getaway to Palisade. The home and gardens are beautiful and well cared for, and it was a very comfortable and relaxing place to stay. The location made it easy to get anywhere in town and to the surrounding wineries and vineyards.
The cottage was a great home base for a relaxing weekend in Colorado wine country. The landscaping gave plenty of privacy and charm and the location is central making many places walkable from the house. It truly is a 100 year old house so there is no modern luxuries and this didn’t bother us one bit! There is no WiFi, a tub only with a handheld shower, and no TV (a small monitor in the back porch that has an antennae). The train tracks go through the middle of town so be prepared to hear it often. There are earplugs if needed but this didn’t bother us either. Owners were easily reachable and responsive letting us have a late checkout. We had a perfect weekend with four friends unplugging and enjoying each other and Palisade. Would definitely stay there again!
We really enjoyed this home and yard. The wisteria on the Ramada over the deck is amazing. The yards are very private. The house is charming. Great walking and biking right from the house.
We loved the house! We enjoyed walking to the wineries. Palisade is a wonderful town.

About the host
Hosted by Susan Metzger
I am an artist and teacher. When I moved to Colorado from the Virgin Islands after Hurricane Hugo, I looked at a lot of houses. I fell in love with this one immediately and felt extremely lucky to purchase this home in 1991. I've always loved old houses - and my artwork is of historic architecture.
Why they chose this property
When I married 20 years ago, I couldn't give up this house, I had spent years planting roses and exotic plants - and it had lots of happy memories. When I moved in, the house had the original wooden shingle roof covered with moss, and the original wiring. I only had 6 outlets! I sadly redid the roof in 2002 when it started to leak, and I had the wiring redone and added an outlet in the bathroom in 1997. For 10 years the house was a dedicated vacation rental. Then, last year, my 90-year-old mother moved in. It is a wonderfully accessible location, with grocery, post office and library all near by. When my mother is visiting relatives, we close off her bedroom and reopen as a vacation rental.
What makes this property unique
Few of the houses in Palisade have as many original features. Sash windows, pine floor, high ceilings, wooden pantry. The entry to the basement is a trap door. And a bubble bath in the original clawfoot bathtub has been a constant pleasure. Enjoy a quiet old fashioned pace of life.
