About this property

Starlight Sanctuary · Hot Tub, Cowboy Tub, 5 Acres

Summary:

Hundreds of acres of protected land surround Starlight Sanctuary, a remodeled black board-and-batten cabin on five acres of North Joshua Tree with no immediate neighbors. Follow stepping stones from the four-person hot tub to the seasonal 8-foot cowboy tub (closed November through March), then out to a rusted red Ford Ranchero made up as a daybed. Spin a record, fill the soaking tub, and when the sky goes dark, take the blankets back out to the truck. It is two of you and the stars.

The Space:

Starlight Sanctuary is a completely remodeled one-bedroom home on five acres in North Joshua Tree, surrounded by hundreds of acres of protected land with no immediate neighbors. From the outside it is a black board-and-batten cabin; inside, white walls, warm wood, woven wall art and a leather sofa keep it soft and easy. The outdoor space is laid out in areas linked by stepping stones, from the hot tub and cowboy tub to a stargazing spot set farther off for privacy. With a king bed, an ensuite with dual rain showerheads and a soaking tub, and a record player, it is made for two.

-Highlights-

► Four-person hot tub

► 8-foot cowboy tub (not an in-ground pool), unavailable November through March

► Stargazing area with a vintage Ford Ranchero outdoor daybed

► Two hammocks and dual hanging chairs under a wooden arch

► Gas fire pit and gas BBQ

► 5 acres bordered by protected land, with no immediate neighbors

► King bed and an ensuite with dual rain showerheads and a soaking tub

► Record player with a record collection and a Bluetooth speaker

► Smart TV in the living room

► Kitchen stocked with spices, olive oil and cookware

► Nespresso machine and pods, plus tea and sugar

► Starlink Wi-Fi and mini-split heating and air conditioning

► Board games and books

-Outdoor Amenities-

Each part of the yard is its own small room, linked by stepping stones across the sand. In warm months, the 8-foot cowboy tub sits low in a wooden deck with cushioned loungers beside it, a good place to spend an afternoon; it is a cowboy tub, not an in-ground pool, and it is closed November through March. The four-person hot tub is set out on the open desert for any season.

Take lunch under the wooden pergola, then claim one of the dual hanging chairs beneath the wooden arch or a hammock as the light turns gold. Fire up the gas BBQ for dinner and gather the Adirondack chairs around the gas fire pit. Then walk out to the stargazing area, set farther off for privacy, where a vintage Ford Ranchero has been turned into an outdoor daybed piled with pillows. Lie back in the truck bed and watch the sky fill in.

-Living Area-

Windows wrap the living room, so the desert stays in view from the leather sofa. Set a record spinning from the collection by the turntable, or carry the Bluetooth speaker outside. Pull out a board game or a book at the built-in nook with its round table, which works just as well for a morning coffee, a few hours of remote work on Starlink Wi-Fi or planning the next day. The smart TV is there for movie nights.

-Kitchen and Dining-

White cabinets, a gas range, open shelves and island seating make the kitchen easy to settle into, with spices, olive oil and cookware ready. Pull a shot from the Nespresso machine, or brew a pot of tea, and take it to the dining nook by the windows. When the evening is warm, dinner moves outside to the table beneath the pergola, strung with twinkle lights.

-Bedrooms and Bathrooms-

Slide the barn door closed and the bedroom is all yours: a king bed with plush bedding beneath a woven pendant, windows to the desert and macrame on the walls. The ensuite has a double wood vanity with round mirrors and brass fixtures, dual rain showerheads in handmade-look tile and a large soaking tub beneath a window. Pour a glass, draw a bath, then head back out to the Ranchero once the stars are up.

-Surrounding Area-

Starlight Sanctuary is in North Joshua Tree. The Transmission sculpture, downtown Joshua Tree, the Integratron and the West Entrance to Joshua Tree National Park all make good outings, and the drive back ends at a sky with no neighbors in it.

-Wildlife & Safety-

The desert landscape is teeming with wildlife and natural beauty, offering a unique connection to nature, but it's important to be mindful of the creatures and plants that call this area home. Guests may encounter a variety of wildlife during their stay, and while direct encounters with dangerous animals like coyotes, snakes, scorpions, bobcats, mountain lions and other desert dwellers are rare, it is important to be aware of your surroundings and to keep a safe distance from these creatures when spotted. Additionally, the desert is dotted with sharp cacti and other spiky plants. For your safety, always supervise children, pets, ESAs, and service animals while outdoors. Dogs should remain on a leash at all times and be watched closely while outdoors, as they can wander into potentially unsafe situations with wildlife or plants. By booking this property, guests acknowledge the potential for wildlife encounters and assume responsibility for their safety and the safety of their group. By respecting the local environment and staying aware, you can fully enjoy the magic of the desert.
