Liked: Check-in, communication
Disliked: Location
The host is very responsive and genuinely tries to resolve issues as they arise. Unfortunately, there are simply too many problems with the property itself. The area is very remote and has no phone signal at all, so you are entirely dependent on the apartment’s Wi-Fi. This becomes a major issue because the power goes out three to four times a day. During these outages, you’re left completely disconnected with no way to communicate.Mosquitoes and spiders are serious issues, both inside and outside the apartment, and it becomes especially uncomfortable at night when the power is out. Transportation is also a major challenge. If you don’t have a car, you’re essentially stranded—Uber doesn’t operate here, and local taxis are extremely overpriced, charging more per mile than anywhere I’ve experienced.I regret booking six nights. Tulum feels more like a pass-through destination at this stage, with limited infrastructure despite high prices. While the apartment itself is nicely decorated, the overall experience is undermined by constant construction noise throughout the day, an unclean swim-up pool, and the building’s isolation. Once it gets dark, the area feels unsafe, particularly for tourists, as there are no streetlights and the surroundings are completely pitch black. If the host has listings at other locations I’d stay, otherwise I won’t be returning to Tulum or this apartment. That said, the host was kind and attentive, which is the one positive takeaway from the stay.
