We absolutely loved the place and were very happy with the amazing views and sunsets! We Loved the overall vibe and space! It’s very Hawaiian and what you’d expect from an amazing unique and special place. My family was able to share a special time with us as we were married at the Royal Kona Resort this past weekend! The driveway getting down to the house can be challenging at first. It drops sharply off a narrow highway with no shoulders and can be hard to see. You must really slow down. There were no smoke detectors in the home only mounting plates where they would have been. The hot water is solar so some of us had cold showers. The positives were the host was a great communicator and the house was charming and had many amenities. Lots of beach gear and coolers, etc. Exceptional ocean view!!!! Loved the lanai off the livingroom. I’m happy we experienced the home!

Yes, some of the home's smoke detectors are missing, to be replaced as they annoyingly chirp with the high humidity in upper elevation Kona, and sometimes are set off by the moisture in the air, sensors not adept at distinguishing them from smoke. I do not ever want guests to feel concerned for their safety and a timely replacement is in process. Thank you for your honest review. The hot water system has a back-up switch that can easy be implemented by flipping a lever in the laundry room, but there is no direction in the vicinity to explain this, and I take responsibility for that. If anyone had reached out to me, I would have guided them through remedying the tepid water issue. Aloha, Lisa

We absolutely loved our stay on the big island on this property. Such unique house set up into the mountains made for a great retreat while exploring the area. There was so much charm to this property and was well appointed. Want to be back there right now having coffee on the back porch looking over the ocean!

This property is amazing! For a brief few days we really felt like Ohana in Hawaii. The Pink House is an amazing home with so much history. The gardens are beautiful and the Lanai is one of a kind. We easily slept 8 in the home and had room to hide from one another when necessary. It’s located very close to some restaurants, and a quick drive down to the touristy things. We arranged our own fishing excursions and horse back riding in the area with easy from this location. The evening breezes kept the home comfortable for our group from a very hot/dry climate. Thank you, all! The central location of Holualoa is a plus and the 1,200' elevation really makes a difference. Older homes in Hawaii took advantage of these natural features.

Beautiful location, beautiful home, excellent access to everything you need, and everything you might want to visit or explore. I can't think of anything we wanted that wasn't already in the home. It's just a good vibe in every meaningful way. Met Lisa one day one, in a friendly, comfortable "welcome, let me know if you need anything" kind of way. You can believe any other reviews you read that have positive things to say.

We had a magical family gathering at Hale Akala, an historic home with uncommon grace and charm. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook for our group of 7. There was nothing we hoped to find available that wasn't provided. Lisa was a welcoming host and had great suggestions for how to spend our time there.

Hidden gem! I don’t want to reveal too much on how amazing this place was since it could affect our ability to get a reservation, but let’s just say we didn’t want to leave. Paradise! Everything about the house and property was exactly as described although we didn’t believe it until we actually saw for our own eyes. This was a beautiful property - perfect for my husband and I to do a vow renewal. We had 9 people, 6 adults, 2 teenagers, and one 10 year old. There was plenty of space, it was convenient and the grounds were gorgeous! The host is amazing and so accommodating and friendly. There are no bathrooms on the bottom or middle floor that are not in a bedroom - this is not a problem for us - but something to consider. I would recommend this property if staying in the area - it’s AMAZING!
The dining room was perfect for our chef to serve our family dinner to 9 people!
The lanai was our favorite spot!
The beautiful yard was perfect for our vow renewal.
The grounds are just gorgeous!

Great stay in Holualoa

We had a great stay and enjoyed our time at Hale Akala. The house was charming and very well equipped. It had all if the supplies we needed for a relaxing trip. We also enjoyed meeting Lisa and learning about the house and the coffee roasting process.

Hawaiian Paradise

Hale Akala, an historic Hawaiian house, nestled on cool mountain slopes over looking Kona, surrounded by lush tropical gardens, was the perfect get away for our party of 12. Full kitchen, 3 full bathrooms, and four separate sleeping areas, easily accommodated 4 generations of our family gathering. Am looking forward to coming back again.
