This place is spectacular. It is within walking distance of all the main spots in Old Homosassa. The views from the balconies and decks are breathtaking. The home was well-equipped with all the necessities. I do not think there was one item this house did not provide for your use. The property owner is very hands-on and took care of a small issue within minutes. If you are thinking about renting this fabulous house, DO IT!! You will be sorry if you do not.
This is a lovely riverfront property that comes with everything you could possibly need to have a great vacation (even spices and condiments that you normally have to bring to most places). Having our boat at the dock for made for easy use any time we wanted to go out. Good restaurants very close by and of course, the manatees were great to see.
Simple. We loved the house, location, property. Rented the property for next January before leaving. Communication with David was great. This property was the best supplied we have stayed in. We brought our sport fish tri toon along. Went out to the gulf several times and had dolphins swimming around the boat. Loads of bird watching. Lots of different boat traffic to observe from the comfort of the covered porch.

It doesn't get any better than the Cedar Shack
From the moment we arrived we loved the place. Right from our initial walk around tour, where we were pleasantly surprised by the owners thoughtful house warming gifts to our final walk thru when we were leaving...we absolutely loved this place. We met the owners several times during our stay and they are the best. All of our needs and concerns were either anticipated before hand or handled ASAP. The Cedar Shack has it all, including a commercial ice machine and draft beer system ! While the house itself is well appointed and very clean, the key here is location, and I can't imagine a better one. The house and decks are designed to take advantage of the corner location on the river. Views upstream, views downstream and views up otter creek, Amazing. You can spend all day watching the boat traffic and you also have a birds eye view of nesting herons and nesting osprey. Manatees and otters swim by the dock. Fishing from the lower dock every morning, great for bullheads, skate, snapper and a few fish I didn't know. Afternoon sun on the upper dock and if its to hot you can go below by the hot tub and hang out in the shade. Evenings on the deck by the house having cocktails and playing cards. Each place with a view. I don't want to neglect the house, like I said very well appointed and clean. Both bedrooms have sliding glass doors to the deck and again great views. We left the curtains open so we could watch the shrimp and crab boats going out each morning. The kitchen is well stocked and has everything you need. Even though you may never want to leave the Cedar Shack with its quiet secluded location, it is close to bars, restaurants, shopping and sightseeing. While looking at the guestbook we saw a lot of repeat customers, after staying there I know why. Our Thanks to the owners for sharing their beautiful house with us.
We just loved this home. It was beautifully decorated and spotless. The kitchen had everything you would want and more. Sharp knives, lovely cutlery and dishes, good pots and pans and even a well seasoned #9 cast iron frying pan. The beds, linens and towels were great.
The location was everything. The sunsets were absolutely beautiful. With the covered veranda or the open two story deck we watched the world go by in every type of water craft you can imagine. We saw lots of dolphins, manatee, all kinds of different birds and fish jumping all the time.
You are literally minutes from numerous pubs and restaurants and you could walk to The Freezer for their famous steamed shrimp.
We went fishing one day and the Captain picked us up at our dock…how great is that.
We had no problems with anything and only contacted the owner to tell him we unfortunately had to leave a couple of days early. Now we are back to snow in Canada wishing we were there!
Short walk to several restaurants/bars. Great private house with all the amenities. David is extremely friendly and quick to fix something if it should need it. Thanks for a relaxing stay!
The listing for the house can't capture the aura of the Homosassa experience. We were probably there at an ideal time of year so temperatures were moderate with some chills and some heat during our five weeks. The house was clean and well outfitted. We used the kayaks about every other day, even taking one to the Gulf and to Kings Bay Park to paddle over to the Seven Sisters Springs where hundreds of manatees were wintering. But there were also manatees on the Homosassa, as well as dolphin, Osprey, tons of Pelicans, Ibises, Herons, Egrets, vultures and others we didn't identify. Gators were just a hike away on the seven mile loop in Crystal River Reserve State Park.
David, the owner, was quickly responsive when we had problems. The first was a slowed kitchen drain; there the next day. And when we said the bathroom sink had a slow drip, which didn't bother us, but we hate to waste, he was there in a few days to repair. Really nice guy.
Our favorite restaurant was Wallace's at the Greenhouse, which I don't believe is listed in the Welcome book.
For those that recycle, there is no pickup with the garbage. We collected ours, first with intent to bring home. But the Central Landfill is about 10 miles away in Lecanto and quick phone call confirmed we can bring it there for free. Just drive in, announce Single Stream Recycling" and make a left and a left and you're out of there.
I can't speak for families or groups of friends, but after 5 weeks we told David we didn't want to give his house back. That should say enough.
This property was exceptionally clean and well stocked for our month stay. Location is wonderful with plenty to see and experience. David was very accommodating to make sure we were happy.
We can't thank you enough for letting us stay here, a great location for a winter break from Michigan, close to restaurants/bars, exciting local stuff within walking distance. Thanks!!

Comfort and Beauty on Florida's Nature Coast
We have returned four times to this lovely spot on the Homosassa River. It is the perfect location to relax after a day of exploration on the water or on the links of nearby golf courses. Ideal for all ages!

Life on the River
What a wonderful place to watch life unfold on the river. Birds, manatees, fish, otter, Shrimp boats, fishermen, nature lovers. This house is extremely well stocked with a great split floor plan. The owners is most responsive to all our needs. We felt so pampered.

Amazing!
Again, another fantastic vacation in Florida! Everything we could want/need and more in this rental. The BEST spot on the river, the view and sunsets are so special each and every night! Great for people watching on their kayaks and boats. Saw a few dolphins and got 'bumped' by a couple manatees on our kayaking trips, must have startled them awake?! Thank you David for offering your home to us, truly love going there each year.

CEDAR SHACK 02.01.15 to 02.21.15
Having recently retired, I was looking for a location that was scenic, somewhat close to bike trails, and did not have throngs of people. We could not have been happier with Cedar Shack and the interaction with the owner, David. My wife and I found Cedar Shack tranquil, private, spacious, with a variety entertaining birds, and spectacular sunsets.
We hope to return in the future.

Why they chose this property
The views, the location, the privacy. We are at the end of the road, where the only houses that can be seen from the decks are across the river.
