Appears Michigan has a "Day Bug" season in May that made regular access to the house, especially access to the house's beach, and some outdoor activities unpleasant.

Dear Ed,
Thank you for staying with us and for taking the time to share your experience. It was a pleasure to host you, and we are glad to hear that you enjoyed the house as well as exploring Northern Michigan's hiking trails, wineries, charming small towns, and wonderful local restaurants.
We are sorry that your visit coincided with the annual midge hatch, sometimes referred to locally as "day bugs." While these insects can certainly be annoying in large numbers, they are completely harmless—they do not bite, sting, or transmit disease. Adult midges live for only about 24 hours, and the swarms typically disappear almost as quickly as they arrive. The entire hatch generally lasts only 7–10 days each year, although the timing varies considerably and some years there is little or no hatch at all.
Importantly, this is not unique to our beach. Midges emerge along shorelines throughout the Great Lakes region and can be found on beaches across Michigan when conditions are right. Interestingly, their presence is actually considered a sign of good environmental health, as they require clean water to complete their life cycle.
As a Lake Michigan beachfront property, we are fortunate to enjoy beautiful beaches, spectacular sunsets, and abundant wildlife. Seasonal natural events such as the midge hatch are part of that ecosystem and, unfortunately, cannot be predicted with precision. Because early May can occasionally coincide with this brief natural phenomenon, along with cooler spring weather, our low-season rates are approximately one-third of peak summer pricing.
Even during the hatch, many guests continue to enjoy the property's covered porch, where they can relax with a meal, listen to the waves, and take in the lake views while being largely unaffected by the insects.
We appreciate your feedback and hope that, despite this short-lived natural event, you were able to enjoy the beauty of Northern Michigan. We would be delighted to welcome you back during another season.
Warm regards,
Tanja
The most wonderful vacation! Highly recommend staying here! The most hospitable host, great location, updated house, comfortable beds, and amazing sunsets!! The house had everything we needed and more! 5 stars!!!
This property and host (Tanja) were truly special. The house was outstanding! There were too many special touches to name. The view was so peaceful and the sunsets were stunning.
The home is perfectly situated on the lake, equiped with wverything you need and more and Tanja was extremely welcoming and personable. Small details made the time wven more special. Thank you, the precious time with 3 generations of family was made more memorable because of what you and the property offered.
Our family loved this house on Good Harbor Bay! It has everything we needed for our extended family of 7 adults and two small children. The sunsets were just beautiful and the beach was a hit for everyone! Plenty of toys for the little ones and kayaks, etc. for the adults. The house was very well stocked also.
Also, Tanja is wonderful….so friendly and welcoming! We would love to come back sometime❤️.
This is the most beautiful house. There are amazing views of the water and had its own beach. There are three levels outside to enjoy your friends and family. Everything was so clean, the kitchen has absolutely everything you could ever need, the beds are comfy and the towels are really nice. The owner is very friendly and communicative. This house can accommodate a lot of people and I wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again!
We recently stayed and had the most wonderful time, although we came during the off season and missed opening weekend, we truly enjoyed ourselves. We were able to disconnect, enjoy the true beauty of the lake and nestle up to a nice fire and glass of wine! The owner/host was absolutely wonderful and made sure we had everything we needed, even early on a Sunday morning when we were in desperate need of coffee with our energetic toddler! Highly suggest a stay here for the awesome views of the lake, proximity to many of the unique towns and lovely and accommodating house!
The house is scrupulously clean and well-appointed, yet warm and inviting with stunning views of Lake Michigan and the Manitous.
The homeowners are equally fabulous. They are thoroughly knowledgeable about the area, warm and gracious. They introduced us to the house, answered the few questions we had and were attentive and helpful throughout our stay. Can't wait to return!
Look no further! Tanja’s beautiful home checks all the boxes. It has everything you’ll need. And the view of Good Harbor Bay and the Manutius is the absolute best. There are so many thoughtful touches, such as fresh spring flowers, firewood for the fireplace and beachside fire pit, and so much room to spread out. The best part of the house is Tanja. What a wonderful host and thoughtful person.
We had a wonderful fun stay at this property.
We were surprised with many extras at this property, the paddle boards, and the kayaks, were a real hit for the grandchildren.
The house is beautiful and clean and the neighborhood is nice and pleasant.
It seemed like everything was easy to get to from Sleeping Bear Dunes, to Leland, to several other small towns with shops, and etc.
The Ping pong table seemed to never be unused, and the selection of books and videos would keep you busy if you wore yourself out doing any of the activities.
Tanja was a joy to talk to, and was available for questions before or during our stay, and seemed to genuinely enjoy making our stay the best.
We were also surprised by how clear and clean Lake Michigan was, and with the beauty of the house everything just went together.
The home is perfect for a large family or several smaller families. I visited with my three kids, siblings and mother and we had plenty of space. The location can’t be beat. A beautiful beach on the big lake and five minute drive to Leland. Traverse City, Suttons Bay, Sleeping Bear Dunes and so much more can be reached within a half hour. I have stayed in a lot of nice vacation rentals over the years, and the host, Tanja, is the best I’ve experienced. Despite a tight turnaround after the previous guests, she was able to check us in early and kept us updated on progress the entire day. And the house was immaculate. She went above and beyond in making our arrival seamless and even had a custom cake waiting for us with a welcome greeting written in frosting. I couldn’t begin to suggest how they could do things better. It was perfect.
We stayed here for a second time for many reasons - beautiful location, access to local spots/dunes, lake access with available kayaks/SUP, etc. A very easy stay with books, games, puzzles, movies, and ping pong for the kids. The hosts are fabulous.
Thanks soo much Tanja for the use of your house!!!
This house has everything you need inside and out. The beach chairs are plentiful and the couchs on the deck were comfy. We had mor tha enough Kykaks. Our family still talks about how much fun they had in the water and in the sand. The deck area was very comfortable lots if seating. Very quiet area. The view from the house was amazing. The kitchen definitely is stocked for cooking. We had fresh fish on the grill that was amazing! We will be back.
Our group of 10, ranging from 4yo to 65yo, stayed for a week in June. The owners are VERY nice and are quickly responsive. They stock the house with everything you need but food and clothing... spices, cookware, paper goods, soaps, beach towels, firewood, beach chairs, kayaks, you name it! The house was very clean and everything worked properly. The pictures don't do this place justice. The outdoor living spaces are phenomenal... the yard is big enough to play in; there's a nice seating area down by the beach; the screened in porch is huge and well furnished; the deck is huge and well furnished; and there's a fire pit established on the beach. The view is the BEST... the water is crystal clear and mostly calm (great for kayaking and paddle boarding) and the view of the islands, dunes, and sunsets are phenomenal. Also, the house is close to many quaint, touristy towns and some really good wineries. Plus, you are right by Sleeping Bear Dunes, which is a beautiful drive and offers great hiking. We drove 2.5 hours north to the Macinac Ferry and were able to visit the island, see Charlevoix, see Petosky, and see Torch Lake all in a day-trip.
Overall, the house is super clean, well furnished, comfortable, sits at a perfect location, has amazing outdoor spaces, and offers the most beautiful views of Lake Michigan. DO NOT HESITATE TO BOOK THIS HOME!
No words or pictures can truly do this property justice. Perfect for our family birthday get together with plenty of room for all families. House was extremely clean and stocked with everything we needed and more. We loved cooking dinner together and watching the sunsets. Hosts were very easy to communicate with and gave great suggestions for places to eat and running trails nearby. Would love to come back during warmer weather to spend more time on the deck and beach.
This was, without a doubt, one of the best rental experiences we’ve ever had. Location is convenient to Glen Arbor and Sleeping Bear, but even closer to Leland where there are some cute shops and great restaurants. The home was clean, comfortable, and very well cared for. The kitchen was large and incredibly well stocked with just about everything you could want to cook a nice meal. The furniture, including the beds, was clean and comfortable. The screened in porch is lovely and the rest of the outdoor space was magnificent. Unfortunately our trip was during the height of the “midge” bug season which meant swarms of tiny bugs so we didn’t get to spend too much time outside but that was obviously not the host’s fault. And by the way the host is incredible. Friendly, welcoming, and available to answer any questions or offer suggestions. They left an arrival gift that was very much appreciated and even mailed us back an item that we forgot. I can’t say enough great things about this experience. We won’t soon forget the glorious sunset views. Thank you Arndt and Tanja for an unbelievable visit.
