THE VILLAGE
Saint Yrieix la Perche is a small town in the Haute Vienne (Limousin) with a beautiful old center. The town is situated on the border of the Dordogne, the Corrèze and Haute Vienne and its medieval
center is classified among the “Plus Beaux Détours de France” and is a stage on “The Route Richard Cœur de Lion” (The Lion Heart).
There are wonderful cobbled streets, numerous shops and markets. St Yrieix has many wonderful historical sites and attractions to visit including: The stunning illustrated 11th century Bible, the imposing Church high on the hill in the center, the Palloux porcelain museum situated next to the lake Arfeuille which houses some of the most beautiful and rare pieces of porcelain in France.
You can take a walk around one of the magnificent lakes. Gastronomic highlights are the little Madeleine Cakes, Cul Noir pork, Rosé à point -Veal from the Limousine breed of cattle and the most famous of all, the superb Golden Delicious apple. The Limousin Golden Delicious has obtained the prestigious title AOC (Appellation d’origine contrôlée) ensuring its quality and taste.
The grand market which lines the main streets is held is on the 2nd and 4th Friday of every month and a smaller market for local producers is held on alternate Saturdays.
The nearby Chateaus of Coussac Bonneval and Jumilhac reinforce the areas historical presence and the nearby summer markets in Objat, Ségur-le-Château and Arnac-Pompadour are always worth visiting. Local fishing, hiking and biking are also popular.
