When my wife Michele and I first discovered this historic property in 2024, we had no idea just how much it would capture our hearts. As lifelong residents of New Kent, we’ve raised our four daughters here and always felt a deep connection to the area’s landscape, people, and stories. When this home came into our lives, it felt less like a purchase and more like a calling — a chance to preserve a piece of Virginia’s remarkable past and share it with others.
Built in 1749, the house has witnessed nearly three centuries of change. It has stood through revolutions, generations, and countless untold stories. When we began the renovation, we quickly realized we weren’t just updating an old house — we were uncovering history. Beneath layers of time, we found original hand-hewn beams, wide-plank floors, and even a few hidden surprises that spoke to the craftsmanship and resilience of early American life. Each discovery deepened our appreciation for the people who built and preserved this home long before us.
Restoring it was a labor of love. Every decision we made — from the preservation of original architectural details to the addition of modern comforts — was guided by respect for its history and the desire to make it a welcoming place once again. We worked alongside local artisans, craftsmen, and historians to ensure the integrity of the home remained intact while still providing the conveniences today’s travelers expect. The result is a space where the past and present meet in harmony: rustic textures balanced with elegant simplicity, historic charm complemented by modern comfort.
What makes this home truly special, though, is the feeling you get when you walk through the door. There’s a sense of peace here — a warmth that comes from centuries of family, laughter, and life. Whether you’re gathering with loved ones around the hearth, enjoying coffee on the porch as the sun rises over the fields, or simply exploring the timeless beauty of New Kent County, this house has a way of grounding you in the moment.
We feel incredibly fortunate to have become the next caretakers of this property. It has been one of the greatest joys of our lives to see it come back to life — not as a museum piece, but as a living home that continues to create memories. Our hope is that each guest who stays here feels not only comfortable but connected — to the land, the history, and the enduring spirit of those who came before.
Welcome to our home. We invite you to experience the story, the charm, and the quiet magic that have made this place such an unforgettable part of our family’s journey. May it be a part of yours, too.
