No direct lake access. There is a shared path to a Lake Erie viewpoint. This is to the left of the bushes in front of Fisherman's Cottage next door.

We are pet friendly but please be sure to clean up animal waste and keep dogs leashed at all times.

This is a darling little cottage very close to Lake Erie with a view of the lake and outdoor area to sit and enjoy the beautiful view. We had a wonderful trip and enjoyed coming home every day to this cozy little private place in the village of Portland.

We enjoyed our stay at this property. It was well stocked with everything we needed. The bathroom was particularly nice. Overall a very nice experience. The yard was a nice size and would have been great for walking our dog but the high grass especially in the back area made that difficult.

We were so pleased with our stay at the Mainstay. It was immaculate and so well decorated and furnished. We were very comfortable during our visit there. Julie provided everything we might need -- and more. It was a wonderful area too. Close to many places of interest. But nice and quiet, too, which is what we were looking for. Julie was very helpful and responsive the couple of times we had questions. We would definitely use these accommodations again when we're in the area!

This was a super cute a cozy house. We did an East Coast road trip and we all decided it was the nicest rental we had the entire way. The owner was very accommodating and responsive. The grounds are beautiful and it is super close to an amazing view of Lake Erie.

Why they chose this property

I grew up going to Chautauqua every summer and fell in love with the laidback small-town charm found in this part of New York. Memories here feel like antique shop finds, ice cream cones, beach naps, and late night porch cocktails.

Being from Erie, I also know the value of a Lake Erie sunset and couldn't resist the opportunity to share it with others.

What makes this property unique

I renovated much of The Mainstay and her sister, the Fisherman' Cottage, myself! It was a passion project several years in the making. You'll find some quirky imperfections in these old lakeside cottages but don't let that stop you from enjoying the comfort and quiet they offer!
